Ribbon Rosette Tutorial from Stamping Imperfection

1. Vintage style is all the rage in paper crafting and fashion. Rich

textures, layers, and details are the elements of vintage style. Ribbon is very often featured, too. With this tutorial you will be able to add rich texture and detail to your vintage projects

by creating beautiful ribbon rosettes!

2. Create a circle as your base for the ribbon rosette. Circle

punches are great options that allow you to create ribbon rosettes in a variety of sizes. Cover the circular base with strips of Sticky Strip.

This sample uses the circular center of a stamped image as the base.

3. Ribbons that are soft, like 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon or 3/8”

Taffeta Ribbon, work best for this technique.

For a ribbon rosette that is about 1” – 1-1/4” you will need about 16” – 18” of ribbon.

Gather one end of the ribbon together and adhere it at the center of the Sticky Strip circle. Twirl the ribbon and then begin

wrapping it in a spiral.

4. Continue to twirl the length of

ribbon as you wrap it around the center in a spiral pattern and adhere it to the Sticky Strip.

TIP: Try to keep the amount of twirl fairly consistent, but don’t worry if it isn’t perfect. A bit of variety in the twirl texture creates a

better looking ribbon rosette.

5. As you get to the edge of the

circle or Sticky Strip you will need to trim off any excess ribbon.

6. Twirl the end of the ribbon and

tuck it under the edge of the ribbon rosette and use the Sticky Strip to hold the end under. If needed, add a Mini Glue Dot or a

bit of Multipurpose Liquid Glue to hold the end in place.

Try creating a variety of ribbon Rosettes in different colors and

sizes for cards, scrapbook pages, and boxes. Also add them to décor items like lamp shades and photo frames for a custom look you will love!

Half Sheet Wonder & Pre-Stamping Instructions

Very Vanilla Card Stock 1 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” – Half Sheet Wonder 1 1-3/4” x 5-1/2” – Card 3 Layer 1 Scrap for stamping (about 3” x 5-1/2”) - Cards 1-3 & Box Layers

Soft Suede Card Stock 1 Scrap for stamping (about 4-1/4” x 11”) – Cards 1, 2 & Box Layers Melon Mambo Card Stock 1 Scrap for stamping (about 3” x 3”) – Cards 2 Layer Other Blender Pen

Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker

1. Gather supplies listed in the Supply List.

2. Randomly stamp swirl image from Everything Eleanor stamp set onto 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” Very Vanilla card stock with Basic Black ink. Begin stamping in the

center, then rotate the stamp 1/4 turn as you stamp around the edge to get a random pattern with a bit of open space.

3. Stamp large and small floral images with Basic Black ink in the open spaces between the swirls to complete the stamped background pattern.

4. Follow the cutting instructions on the Half Sheet Wonder Template in the Templates section to create the Half Sheet Wonder pieces that will be used

on the box and cards in this project.

5. Save time by pre-stamping certain images that will be used multiple times on the projects.

Randomly stamp the large floral image on the 1-3/4” x 5-1/2” Very Vanilla card stock strip with

Basic Black ink.

6. Stamp the large floral image with Basic Black ink onto scrap Melon Mambo card stock and twice onto scrap Very Vanilla

card stock.

Stamp the bird image twice on

scrap Very Vanilla card stock

with Basic Black ink.


7. Stamp the large label image three times on a scrap Soft Suede card stock using Soft Suede ink. Stamp one of the images without re-inking the

stamp so it is lighter.

8. Color the stamens at the center of the two flower images stamped on scrap Very Vanilla card stock with the fine point tip of a Basic Black Stampin’ Write

Marker. Allow ink to dry.

9. Color the two flower images using the Melon Mambo ink pad and a Blender Pen.

The samples are blended so they are darker in the center of each

petal and lighter towards the ends.

10. Cut out the following pre-stamped images with Paper

Snips:

3 – Soft Suede labels 2 – Very Vanilla large flowers 1 – Melon Mambo large flower 2 – bird images


Card Box Instructions

Very Vanilla Card Stock 1 2-3/4” x 3-3/4” – Box Half Sheet Wonder Layer 1 Scrap for Punching (about 3” x 3”) – Box Layer 1 Pre-stamped bird – Box Layer Soft Suede Card Stock

1 Pre-stamped label – Box Layer Basic Black Card Stock 1 3” x 4” – Box Layer Melon Mambo Card Stock 1 6-1/2” x 8-1/2” – Box Body 1 Scrap for Punching (about 3” x 3”) – Box Layer Other

1 – 12” Basic Black 3/8” Taffeta Ribbon 1 – 8” Basic Black 3/8” Taffeta Ribbon

1 – 18” Crumb Cake 1/2” Seam Binding Ribbon Punches: 2-1/2” Circle & 2-3/8” Scallop Circle SNAIL (10”), Stampin’ Dimensionals (11), Mini Glue Dots (2) & Sticky Strip (14”)


2. Stamp medallion label image on scrap Very Vanilla card stock

with Soft Suede ink and then punch out with 2-3/8” Scallop Circle Punch.

3. Create a circle out of strips of Sticky Strip at the center of the

punched label. Leave a bit of space between the edge of the Sticky Strip and the filigree pattern.

4. Create a ribbon rosette using an

18” piece of Crumb Cake Seam Binding Ribbon. Follow the Ribbon Rosette Tutorial for step-by-step instructions.

5. Add Stampin’ Dimensionals to

the back of a pre-stamped Soft Suede label.

Punch scrap Melon Mambo card stock with 2-1/2” Circle Punch.

6. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to

layer the bird image onto the ribbon rosette, layer that onto the Melon Mambo 2-1/2” circle, and layer that onto the Soft Suede label.


7. Adhere 2-3/4” x 3-3/4” Half Sheet Wonder card stock piece to 3” x 4” Basic Black card stock with SNAIL.

8. Randomly stamp medium floral image onto 6-1/2” x 8-1/2” Melon Mambo card stock with Melon Mambo ink.

9. Score stamped Melon Mambo card stock following instructions on the Card Box Template in the Templates Section.

Score along the 6-1/2” side at 1”

and 5-1/2”. Score along the 8-1/2” side at 3-1/2” and 5”.

10. Cut flaps according to Card Box Template. Add Sticky strip to

small flaps and the very edges of the two back flaps. See image above.

11. Fold up small center flaps. Fold in back flaps and adhere to small

flaps. Fold front flaps over the back flaps and adhere. Make sure top edges are even.

12. Completed box is ready to be decorated.

13. Adhere 3” x 4” layered card stock centered on box front with SNAIL.

Wrap 12” Basic Black Taffeta Ribbon around box and adhere ends to center front of box with a bit of SNAIL.

14. Adhere the layered label and ribbon rosette embellishment centered on box front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Tie a bow in an 8” piece of Basic Black Taffeta Ribbon. Adhere to right of label with Mini Glue Dots.

15. This vintage inspired box is ready to hold cards, photos, treats, recipes, and so much more!


Card 1 Instructions

Very Vanilla Card Stock 1 2” x 5-1/2” – Card 1 Half Sheet Wonder Layer 1 Pre-stamped flower

Soft Suede Card Stock 1 Pre-stamped label – Card 1 Layer Basic Black Card Stock 1 2-1/4” x 5-1/2” – Card 1 Layer Melon Mambo Card Stock 1 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” – Card 1 Body Other

1 – 7” Basic Black 3/8” Taffeta Ribbon 3 – Basic Pearl Jewels (strip) Punches: 3/16 Corner SNAIL (14”) & Stampin’ Dimensionals (1)


Score 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” Melon Mambo card stock at 4-1/4” along the 8-1/2” side.

2. Slip one narrow end of the Soft Suede label into the corner

punch past the guide to punch a slit. Center the corner punch near the end of the label. If you line up the outside edge of the

guide with the curve on the cut-out label (see arrows above) you can get the slits even on both ends of the label.

Repeat to punch a slit on the other end of the label.

3. Stamp the first half of a greeting from the Petite Pairs stamp set

on the right half of the label using Basic Black ink.

Adhere a large Very Vanilla cut-out flower to the left half of the label with a Stampin’ Dimensional.

4. Thread a 7” piece of Basic Black Taffeta Ribbon down through the slit on the right side of the label and then back up through the

slit on the left side of the label.

Cut three Basic Pearl Jewels

from the pearl strips and adhere under the stamped greeting.

5. Adhere 2” x 5-1/2” Half Sheet Wonder card stock to 2-1/4” x 5-1/2” Basic Black card stock.

Adhere ribbon ends behind layered strip and about 1/4"

from the bottom edge.

6. Randomly stamp Melon Mambo card front with medium floral image and Melon Mambo ink.

Adhere layered strip to card front with SNAIL.

This fun and bright card is ready to send a smile for any occasion.


Card 2 Instructions

Very Vanilla Card Stock 1 2-1/2” x 5-1/2” – Card 2 Half Sheet Wonder Layer

1 Pre-stamped bird

Soft Suede Card Stock 1 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” – Card 2 Body 1 Pre-stamped label – Card 2 Layer Melon Mambo Card Stock 1 2-3/4” x 5-1/2” – Card 2 Layer 1 Pre-stamped flower Other

1 – 15” Crumb Cake 1/2” Seam Binding Ribbon 2 – Basic Pearl Jewels (large) SNAIL (12”), Stampin’ Dimensionals (6) & Sticky Strip (6”)


Score the 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” Soft

Suede card stock at 4-1/4” along the 8-1/2” side.

2. Randomly stamp medallion label image on Soft Suede card front with Soft Suede ink.

3. Adhere pre-stamped bird to pre-stamped Melon Mambo flower with 1/2 a Stampin’

Dimensional.

Adhere flower centered on pre-

stamped Soft Suede label with a Stampin’ Dimensional.

4. Adhere 2-1/2” x 5-1/2” Half Sheet Wonder card stock to 2-3/4” x 5-1/2” Melon Mambo card stock. Adhere layers 1/2” from bottom of Soft Suede card front.

Place Sticky Strip horizontally across the center of the Half Sheet Wonder layer.

5. To create ruched, or gathered, ribbon cut ends of 15” Crumb Cake Seam Binding Ribbon so they are straight. Unravel one end until the fringe is about 1/4" long. Trim off the long thread

you were pulling on.

6. Pull one of the center threads to begin gathering the ribbon.


7. Continue pulling the thread and gathering the ribbon until about half of the ribbon is gathered.

TIP: Gather the ribbon fairly tightly; you can loosen it as you add it to

your project if you like.

8. Repeat the steps on the other half of the ribbon.

NOTE: If you pull only from one end the thread just pulls out and you lose the gathering you did and end

up with a flat ribbon with a thread missing from the middle!

9. Remove the Sticky Strip backing. Place the center of the ruched ribbon on the center of the card and begin pressing it down over the Sticky Strip

towards the edges.

10. At the edges of the card trim off the excess ribbon.

The sample ribbon was folded

lengthwise and cut at an angle to create banner or flag ends.

11. Adhere layered label over the left edge of the ribbon using

Stampin’ Dimensionals placed in each corner.

Add medium or large Basic Pearls to each end of the label.

12. This elegant card is ready to make anyone feel extra special.


Card 3 Instructions

Very Vanilla Card Stock 1 2-3/4” x 3-3/4” – Card 3 Half Sheet Wonder Layer 1 1-3/4” x 5-1/2” – Card 3 Pre-stamped Layer 1 Pre-stamped flower Soft Suede Card Stock

1 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” – Card 3 Body Basic Black Card Stock 1 Scrap for punching (about 3” x 3”) – Card 3 Layer Melon Mambo Card Stock 1 3” x 4” – Card 3 Layer 1 2” x 5-1/2” – Card 3 Layer Other

1 – 6” Basic Black 3/8” Taffeta Ribbon 1 – 6” Crumb Cake 1/2” Seam Binding Ribbon

Blender Pen Punches: 2-1/2” Circle SNAIL (16”) & Stampin’ Dimensionals (8)


Score 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” Soft Suede card stock at 4-1/4” along the 8-1/2” side.

2. Stamp first half of greeting from Petite Pairs stamp set on bottom right corner of Soft Suede card front with Basic Black ink.

3. Layer 1-3/4” x 5-1/2” pre-stamped card stock onto 2” x 5-1/2” Melon Mambo card stock.

Layer 2-3/4” x 3-3/4” Half Sheet Wonder card stock onto 3” x 4”

Melon Mambo card stock.

4. Place a bit of SNAIL at one end of a 6” piece of Crumb Cake

Seam Binding Ribbon. Center a 6” piece of Basic Black Taffeta ribbon over the top.

Adhere ends of layered ribbons behind 3” x 4” layered card stock and about 1/4" from the

left edge.

5. Adhere 2” x 5-1/2” layered card stock 1/4” from left edge of card

front. Add Stampin’ Dimensionals to back of 3” x 4” layered card stock. Adhere about 1/2" from top and right edges of card front.

Add a bit of SNAIL behind

ribbons at bottom of the 3” x 4” layer to hold them in place.

6. Trim ribbon ends at an angle or with a banner end so that the

top ribbon is slightly shorter than the bottom ribbon.


7. Punch scrap Basic Black card stock with 2-1/2” Circle Punch.

Adhere pre-cut floral image to center of Basic Black circle with a Stampin’ Dimensional.

8. Adhere Basic Black circle to card front overlapping the ribbon and the bottom of the 3” x 4” layers using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

9. Bold and beautiful! This card is perfect for many occasions.
