Welcome to the West Bristol Arts Trail 2016This is the ninth annual Trail and since 2008 it has been followed by thousands of visitors. Over the weekend of Saturday October 15th and Sunday October 16th (11am – 5pm), more than 100 artists spread over 52 venues will be showing their work, mostly in private homes and studios. Work is of every kind: watercolours, oils, sculpture, prints, ceramics, jewellery, textiles, photography and mixed media. As always, there is a new fresh look to the Trail as we welcome different artists every year.
This really is affordable art. There is no pressure to buy but, if you wish to do so, then you are buying direct from the artist (who is usually on hand) without the considerable commission charged by galleries.
It has become probably the main public event in Clifton each year. Areas covered include not only the Village, but all parts of Clifton, Hotwells and part of Redland. Outline details of venues and artists are all shown here. For further details including much fuller information about each artist, please visit: www.westbristolarts.com
There are two large group venues: Bristol School of Art (in the RWA building, near the Victoria Rooms) hosts many artists and it will be the venue for a Public Preview on Friday October 14th from 5.30pm, when the Trail will be officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Bristol. This is a free public event open to all. No need to apply or to receive an invitation; just come along. The other big venue is in Hotwells, where Holy Trinity Church also hosts a large number of artists; it also offers goodvalue light lunches and other refreshments. Other venues offering similar facilities have details shown in their banner headline.
Parking Permit Initiative - Parking has become an issue in Clifton and Hotwells, but actually the new scheme has had the desired effect of making more spaces available. See information panel on the other side for details.
However, we still strongly recommend using public transport or bicycle to visit the area. After that, it’s a matter of exploring on foot, and looking for the green balloons which each venue displays. As of September, the number 8 bus serves only Clifton and the number 9 only Redland. However, they both serve Pembroke Road and so one can change there. The rather less frequent Wessex 505 links Long Ashton Park and Ride, Hotwells, Clifton Village, and Blackboy Hill. For much fuller details with timetables etc, please see our website.
Children are most welcome, but must be supervised.
