Event Messaging and why to integrate it with SAP systems
Event-driven architecture (EDA) is the communication concept in today’s
real-time business processes across systems
▪ Event-driven real-time scenarios are everywhere today:
▪ Digital business models, involving e.g. mobile payment, online shopping, logistic processes
▪ ‘Connected car’ scenarios like Mercedes.me (digital aftersales with customer interaction)
▪ IoT scenarios, e.g. for efficient maintenance of assets
▪ What is the gap at our customers?
▪ Event-driven architectures are typically non-SAP solutions/platforms
▪ SAP systems are typically the backbone of commercial and finance processes, like billing / sales processes to generate revenue
→ Both IT worlds are not integrated, creating a gap in terms of process and data
▪ What does ASAPIO offer to close the gap?
→ ASAPIO offers an ACI, a certified add-on for SAP systems to connect to
leading event messaging platforms like Solace PubSub+, Apache kafka / confluent etc.

New Connectivity:
e.g. connect non-SAP systems, SaaS/PaaS systems and platforms, cloud applications, mobile platforms, data lakes etc. to on-prem SAP systems, or wherever SAP does not provide standard connectivity
Performance & Scalability:
e.g. switch batch interfaces to event-based/realtime interfaces, allow microbatching/partitioning and parallel data loads for high-volume batch interfaces, redesign high-frequency / high-load SAP standard interfaces to event-based, enable 1:n connectivity without middleware
Security & API Management:
e.g. build custom interfaces with ACI, to benefit from its uniform approach for all kind of external connectivity, including central monitoring, or replace (specific) 1:1 interfaces with event-bus-architecture

Why Event Messaging with SAP systems?Use-Cases for ASAPIO Cloud Integrator for Event Messaging
What it is not: ACI does not generally or globally replace e.g. all SAP-to-SAP connectivity, but it allows for new and better connectivity, where applicable
▪ Works for both batch/microbatchmessages and real-time eventmessages
▪ Supports Business Object Event coupling for event messagecreation, out-of-the-box
▪ Allows dynamic topics e.g. from SAP business object data
▪ Built-in extensive monitoring, including payload
▪ Installs as Add-On to SAP NetWeaver ABAP on-prem systems(SAP certified) as of Release 4.6 upto 7.x incl. S/4HANA

SAP Business Object Events:
▪ Create outbound event messagesfrom any SAP business objectevent (standard or custommethods supported)
▪ Inbound processing also possible
▪ Event binding through SAP business object repository eventlinkage
▪ Works out-of-the box, easy configuration layer included
▪ Highly efficient, very fast, norelevant additional system load
10
ASAPIO Cloud Integrator offers various possibilities for event coupling
BAPI/RFC function moduleinterfaces:
▪ Typical for custom interfaces orolder 1:1 SAP integrations (e.g. SAP SRM to ERP, WM to ERP etc.)
▪ To convert to event-based, a localACI function module instead ofthe BAPI/RFC function module iscalled, and subsequently createsthe event message etc.
▪ ACI also be used to convertsynchronous to asynchronousinterfaces
→ Requires development
IDoc Interfaces:
▪ ACI receives e.g. an IDoc creationevent through an SAP Business Object Event
▪ IDoc message content is thenconverted to an event message
▪ Inbound processing also possible (currently in development)
Example: Publish SAP sales order changes as an event
→ Building an event message from SAP data is simple with ASAPIO Cloud Integrator.

ASAPIO Cloud Integrator is unique in many ways:
▪ ACI is an add-on to your SAP systems and operates within your established SAP infrastructure in all aspects (application management, security, logging etc.)
▪ ACI has a modular and open architecture: we deliver content packages for data extraction and mapping and connectors for the different cloud solutions.
▪ ACI allows to enhance or create custom content (extractors, formatters) and connectors
▪ ACI uses highly scalable techniques to bring your data into the cloud or to on-prem event brokers:
▪ event based triggers
▪ delta loads / change pointers
▪ parallel data processing (in multiple SAP work processes)
▪ data splitting
▪ direct SQL reads or BAPI calls for data selection possible
▪ ACI supports outbound AND inbound process and data flows
▪ ACI supports interface clustering for efficient provisioning to multiple cloud applications
▪ ACI does not require any middleware

ASAPIO Cloud Integrator Product Highlights
17
Supported trigger technologies:
▪ SAP Workflow Event Linkage: direct ACI call through SAP RFC connection (e.g. for single events)
▪ Scheduled processing of SAP change pointers (data enrichment, formatting for cloud application, communication)
Processing options:
▪ For low volume use-cases, a connection via HTTP REST API is possible (without multi-threading)
▪ For bulk loads and high-volume use-cases, ACI supports multi-threading for packaged data retrieval and cloudcommunication calls:
▪ ACI supports use of SAP server groups to control the load of the ABAP system, to minimize risk of systemoverload e.g. after mass data changes in the application system
18

ASAPIO Cloud Integrator:Feature overview (II)
Is ACI a middleware?
▪ No, ACI is not a middleware. ACI is a connectivity add-on for SAP systems. It extracts, filters and formats SAP data consumable to the connected cloud solution.
▪ You are free to use a middleware, but ACI does not require one
Can ACI aggregate data from multiple SAP systems?
▪ Yes, ACI can e.g. aggregate data from multiple SAP instances (central or decentral deployment possible) and ACI allows pre-fixing of data, e.g. to combine overlapping master data from multiple source systems.
Is ACI ready for big data?
▪ Yes, ACI supports e.g. delta loads and multi-threading. This allows large amounts of data and high-frequency data transfer.
Is ACI an SAP product?
▪ ACI is a partner product developed and offered by ASAPIO GmbH & Co. KG, Munich / Germany
Is there SAP standard integration available for SAP Cloud Platform
▪ Yes, but not for SAP ERP. For S/4HANA, standard integration scenarios are available for SAP Cloud Platform Enterprise Messaging.
