STATE LIBRARYMAYORS WELCOME

It took just 18 days for him to turn a stack of foam into the Doom Slayer costume that stunned crowds at PAX Australia before it took a BFG to the competition and saw him crowned Sydney Supanova’s “Best in Show” champion for 2018.

Scrap Shop Props is a 24-year old guy that loves cats and making cool things from video games. With a background in engineering, he started cosplay in 2016 with a Garrus Vakarian, quickly moving on to tackle a full-scale Reinhardt with his friend.

With an eye for accuracy and incredible attention to detail, his knack for bringing game objects to life has seen him building props for some of the biggest gaming companies on the planet, and even representing megastudio Blizzard as the official Reinhardt cosplayer for the Australian round of the Overwatch World Cup.

This contest is scheduled for one fall! Let’s get ready to wrestle!!! Proudly presented by Rhino MMA Rockhampton - Professional wrestling makes its high flying, ring rope climbing, table throwing, chair smashing debut at CapriCon with North Queensland Superstars - The Queensland Wrestling Alliance!

For the horde!

Her World of Warcraft Orc Death Knight took out the 2016 Australian National Championship and sent her all the way to the USA to compete against the very best in the Crown World Cosplay Championship, and with a list of titles longer than an Orc’s tabard, including wins at Oz Comic-Con, Supanova, RTX and more, this cosplayer isn’t just good- she’s Orcsome!

Professional prop builder for some of the biggest names around (her “first job” was building props for The Lord of the Rings at the iconic Weta Studios in New Zealand), official Overwatch World Cup cosplayer for gaming mega studio Blizzard, cosplay mentor and ambassador, gaming guru, reigning Adelaide Supanova “Best in Show” cosplay champion and more…

We promised you big stars, and they don’t come much bigger than this guy!

Every hero needs an epic villain! Whether it’s swords and spears with Brad Pitt on the plains of Ancient Greece as Boagrius in blockbuster Troy, wrestling with Stone Cold Steve Austin as Petr in the jungles of The Condemned, or the mechanical mayhem among the fire and blood of the Oscar winning Mad Max- Fury Road as Rictus Erectus, he’s one of the most recognisable in Hollywood, and it’s not hard to see why! At a towering 210cm tall (that’s 6’ 11 in the old scale) and over 160 kg of muscle he certainly stands out in a crowd! – It’s the one and only Nathan Jones.

All that muscle isn’t just for show either, Nathan won the title of Australia’s Strongest Man in 1995, World Strongman Challenge in 1996, and is a legend on the powerlifting circuits. He’s no stranger to the wresting ring either, having spent time as the protégé to The Undertaker in the WWE and winning a World Championship Title with the WWA.

Who are we to argue with hundreds of screaming fans? You wanted him back and you’ve got him!

Please welcome back for CapriCon 2019 the king of the kids himself, Mr Jay Laga’aia!

Star Wars, Home and Away, Play School, Xena, Jay’s Jungle, Larry the Lawnmower, The Lion King musical, and since we saw him last, the powerful Foxtel exclusive series - Fighting Season, there’s no doubt he’s one of the hardest working and most talented in the business.

Stage panels, photos, autographs and a special performance for our littlest attendees, this is a day with Jay that you won’t want to miss, we’ll see you there!

Geek, cosplayer, comic nerd and wrestling tragic JusZ Cosplay has done it all.

Direct from the pages of Cosplay Live, Ambedo, PinUp Kulture and more, she’s the host of the Oz Comic-Con National Championships of cosplay, star of multiple films from champion Aussie filmmakers Fury Fingers, including Ubisoft sponsored “The Diversion” and is a World Series Wrestling regular and Spotlight brand ambassador for cosplay!

With over 45 costumes created in seven years (and counting), JusZ is deeply passionate about cosplay and is a founding member of the Cosplay Sentinels, an anti-harassment initiative working to create a safe environment for all fans at conventions and online.

Is that guy riding on a cloud??? Lock up the Scrolls! He’s coming! Monkey is coming!

Easily one of Australia’s most recognisable stars, he’s fought warlords and demons across mythical lands in The New Legends of Monkey, embraced his inner werewolf in Shadowhunters, survived post apocalyptic Earth in The 100, made an oceanic splash on Mako Mermaids, and soon, he’ll be trying to save the planet from devastation in the debut Sy Fy Exclusive series “We Were Tomorrow”

We’ve stolen him away from the Palace of the Gods just for you, make some noise CapriCon and welcome the immortal Monkey King himself- Chai Hansen!

As the Emperor protects, so must we. In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. Like the Angel of Vengeance his armour represents, this man is unwavering in his devotion to the cause, and with cosplay skills so good that they flew him all the way to the USA to star in the viral smash short film “Guardsman”. It’s clear that devotion pays off!

APP AVAILABLE FROM

Whether you’re here today as Bruce Wayne or Batman, searching for the Legendary Silver Crystal or your missing glass slipper, visiting from Hogwarts or here to take the seven kingdoms – it’s with great pleasure that I welcome you to the fourth annual CapriCon Steampunk and Pop Culture Convention!

It has been an absolute delight to watch this event transform in just three years. CapriCon started as a smaller scale event held at the Rockhampton Library in 2016 and welcomed a crowd of 750. Since then, it has exploded into one of our Region’s favourite events and last year welcomed an impressive 8,500 people.

I would especially like to attribute its success to our dedicated Library team who birthed the idea and created the convention for Youth Week. As a result, it has brought together different community groups and hobbyists within our Region and it is now one of our most loved, free community events.

This fast growing popularity is also evident in our change of location and extended times for this year’s event! We are anticipating a huge crowd, and have a jam packed programme to suit everyone.

This is a credit to our event organisers and to you – our dedicated cosplayers and anime enthusiasts. Part of what makes this event so special is the way its attendees can add to its magic.

Your passion and support is a sure sign that CapriCon will continue to grow in both popularity and size for years to come.
