4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

Audience• To find my target audience I created a survey on Survey Monkey to see what

things people are interested in, for example what genre of music do they enjoy the most and why do they buy music magazines. But before answering these questions to help me develop my magazine I asked for their gender and age so I had a rough idea who was taking the questionnaire.

• I then interviewed someone who would be a typical person who would most likely be the type of audience to buy my music magazine. This gave me an insight on what she likes and what I can include in my music magazine.

Reader Profile• Ben is 17, he studies A-levels at a college in a urban background. He

studies, photography, media, psychology and graphics. He wants to be a professional music photographer so he takes listening to music and looking for new bands seriously. He subscribes monthly to music magazines to read about the new bands rising as well as the typical indie bands. His favourite places to shop for clothes are Urban Outfitters and Topman. He is always on his Apple Mac editing his photos on Photoshop. In his leisure time he spends time with friends going to small gigs at his local venue or checking out what films are on at the cinema. He has a large CD collection including iTunes downloading. His favourite artists are Artic Monkeys, Foster the People and Two Door Cinema Club. Every year since he was 15 he has been to Leeds Festival for the weekend to enjoy the experience and music and plans to go again this year.

Brands• Urban Outfitters is traditionally an American

company originating from Free People focusing on “funky” fashion and household products. The product line has evolved from vintage, retro, hipster, kitschy apparel and furniture to include luxury brands and several designer collaborations.

• Doc Martens is a British footwear company. The footwear is distinguished by its air-cushioned sole and yellow stitching. This footwear and brand is classed to be indie as they are expensive and hard to get hold of which makes them individual to you and you can choose different styles to make them yours.

Music• This is just one band who is labelled in

the Indie category and who would be placed in my magazine. Their music is slightly more indie rock but they are well known for their well known songs and great experience gigs and acts at festivals.

• Leeds fest is a annual festival on the outskirts of Leeds which is a 4 day weekend presenting you with headline acts and smaller stages for the upcoming artists. A weekend full of music and a great experience with friends. People who buy my magazine will be likely to go to festivals as they have lots of artists and new artists who they can experience in a great atmosphere which is what they are looking for.
