RESEARCH

Geeta arranged all her tasks in a catalogue where

‘research’ is one of them. The first post she posted on her blog was a Prezi slide

where she looked into existing music magazine

covers. She analysed three covers which are ‘Q Magazine’,

‘Kerrang!’ and ‘NME’. She spoke about each of the

magazine covers in details which shows that Geeta has a good understanding of the covers she annotated. She also used Prezi to make it look presentable to the

audiences.

She created a Scribd slide share where she analysed three existing magazine

content pages. Geeta used variety of way to make the audiences be interested in

looking at her blog. The explanations were fully

detailed by putting the texts next to the part she’s talking about which makes it easier

for the audiences to understand.

RESEARCH

She then did another task where she researched on three different music articles that are on a double page which exists and how they attract the readers. She

spoke about each things that are in the article from main image to colour scheme and lots more. She explained about why double page magazines are appealing to the readers and how they do that. She used text boxes to make it easier for the

audiences to understand which part of the article she is talking about.

RESEARCH

She did three slides talking about the Codes and Conventions about what should be expected in a front cover, content page and double page spread magazine.

She used bullet points to make her points easier to understand rather than having paragraphs about one point which will make the audiences lose the interesting in

checking her blog. In all three of her Key Concept slides, she covered the main image, masthead, sell lines, pugs and plugs. She also explained about why it is

used in the magazine and double spread article. At the end of the third slide which is about the double page spread, she goes further in explaining about

audiences expecting reviews on gigs, music albums and songs in the magazine and articles.

RESEARCH

On her next slide, she talks about the audience and says that ‘Audiences read magazine as they

believe that the traditional print format of a magazine is the best way to experience a story’

and I do agree with her statement because people usually read a magazine just to find out a story

about whatever catalogue it is on like for a music magazine, the audiences might want to find out

more about an artist.

She also talks about the representation of R&B music and she broken it down into two genders: Male and Female so that she can explain why

men and women wear a specific dress code in a magazine. , she listed all her favourite artists and few of the albums along with the awards. She also talks about the males’ and the females’ attitudes by saying ‘Male artists have a smooth and cool

attitude however female’s attitudes are fierce and diva-ich’.

On her alternative slide, she listed few artists’ names, albums with the most downloads in two years and also the award shows. In text

boxes, she spoke about what a Mode of Address is, the attitude of R&B and also what

an ideology is.

RESEARCH

On her last slide, she talks about the institution about the magazine publishers. She explains about magazine publishers getting money by

making sure that their magazine sells well with a good readership. She also mentioned that the

company who designs the articles or magazines think carefully about their target audiences and

use the right colours to attract them. This technique is a way of getting the audiences to

read the magazines or articles.

RESEARCH

On her last post, she used Scribd to show the most famous magazine company logos and also

mentioned their phrases, connotative and compound. Geeta has used images to interest the people who visit her website and laid it out neatly by using the right size of logos. The title ‘Existing Names’ is simple and clear so this implies that the students who will visit her website can understand

what the slide is about by just reading the title.

In her next slides, she chose four magazine company logos and described how their logo appeals to the readers, the colours they have

used and how it attracts the readers to read the magazine and article and also, she spoke about the masthead. She used a decent font which the readers can understand what she wrote and used the right size so it does not take over the whole slide. The only suggestion I would like to make is

that Geeta could have improved her slides by putting images of the company’s magazines so the students get an idea of how their magazines

or articles look.

PRODUCTION LOGEach week, Geeta publishes her production diary on her blog to tell the audiences what she’s been

doing in and out of school. She uses images to show what software she used to design the magazine and she also uploads sneak peeks of her magazine and explain it in few lines just to let the audiences know where she is and how it will look when she publishes the original version. Geeta talks about her

magazine and explains why she added each features on her magazine with two full images of her covers. She used two examples of her front covers to decide which one would look better and also

appeal to the audiences. In her double lesson, she continued and emphasised on her front cover page by making it look pretty and colourful. During her weekends, she improves her covers by adding more colours and also adding more texts to make sure she gets the highest mark. On her last update, she

mentioned that she has completed her magazine and also she explained what she done in her magazine from adding texts to changing the layout. The interesting thing about her production log is

that she tried something new by using an app called ‘Voki’. Voki creates an animation of an animal and when someone types a sentence, the animation says it in a funny accent.

PRELIMINARY TASK

Geeta created a Scribd slide where she put all her Preliminary Task ideas by putting front cover images, contents

page images and headings of each pages and her design sketches which she has

drawn to plan her school magazine front cover page and contents page. She wanted to be unique so she made a spider-diagram to put her ideas and

emphasise on it by adding more details. In her front cover slide, she could have

added more texts by explaining why she wanted to use that specific image for her

front cover and also, she should have taken more front cover images so she

can think ahead on improving. Furthermore, Geeta could also have improved by colouring her design

sketches to present it well. The reason why I’m giving a suggestion is because I couldn’t see the some of the parts so if

she coloured the sketches she has drawn, the students can see it clearly.

PRELIMINARY TASK

These designs are done by Geeta Gohil for the school magazine. As you

can see, the front cover magazine looks simple and clear for the students to read and find out

information. But, she could have improved by using a stylish font for the heading to attract the readers. The background in the front cover

looks dark and she could have improved it by brightening it lighter.

Moreover, in the contents page, Geeta has used images to make the page interesting and also used an unique font to attract the readers. But, she

could have used a smaller size text to add more details in to make it look

like the magazine is filled with information. Overall, these two

magazine covers are standard and looks clear for the readers to read.
