This questionnaire concentrated on a more subjective and open response of our audience towards the products.

Questionnaire #1

Page 3: Evaluation

The response to this question was positive, people thought they looked professional and were edited well. More detailed responses said that the use of camera, lighting and colour all contributed to make the products scary.

Overall it seems like the products were successful, and our target audience liked them.

Q1 – First thoughts on the products?

Page 4: Evaluation

Most people thought that it was effective as a domestic horror (after the genre of domestic horror was defined to them), as they mentioned the house was shown frequently, and other mise-en-scene elements such as colour portrayed the product to be horror.

This response suggests that convention was followed well, as the genre was distinct throughout the trailer.

Q2 – Did you think the product was effective as a domestic horror?

Page 5: Evaluation

Most people liked the use of lighting and colour correction in all the products.

I am pleased about this as I made a conscious effort to make sure these elements linked all the products together, and were as effective as possible in order to portray the horror genre.

Q3 – What did you particularly like about each product?

Page 6: Evaluation

The main problems mentioned were the ghost, and the fact that it could have been edited better to fit with the other footage so it flowed slightly better. Also clarity seemed to be an issue, which was suggested could have been improved by more frequent dialogue.

I agree with these observations, and feel that the narrative was not clear at times, and also the ghost was slightly too distinct, and stood out from the rest of the trailer too much.

Q4 – What did you not like about the trailer?

Page 7: Evaluation

Most people thought all products linked together through mainly the use of colour and lighting, and also the use of characters helped linked them.

I feel that this element was a success in our products, as cohesiveness was considered greatly throughout planning and production, and I am pleased the link between the products is portrayed distinctly.

Q5 - Do you think all three products link together?

Page 8: Evaluation

The general response was that the products did build enigma well, as the trailer left unanswered questions, and the use of scary images in the ancillary tasks made you want to see the actual film.

I think the audience felt that the products do build enigma, and I am pleased at this as the amount of times the antagonist should be shown in the trailer was controversial, and the audience research led us to believe that it should be shown a few times, but not frequently which was a decision we took that paid off.Q6 – Do you think the

products build enigma and promote the film well?

Page 9: Evaluation

Most people liked the use of colour, lighting and composition in the poster and magazine

I also liked these elements, and feel that they make the product more effective.

Q7 - What do you like about the poster(poster and magazine)?

Page 10: Evaluation

People thought the background could have been better for the magazine, and the font could have been more scary, which can apply to both products. People also said there should be more advertisements in the magazine, so it looks a bit more like a conventional magazine.

I agree with these flaws of the products, and felt that the background could have been lighter in the magazine, and the font for Paralysis should have been more distinct to the horror genre.

Q8 – What do you think could have been improved (poster and magazine)?

Page 11: Evaluation

People thought that the ancillary tasks were effective as horror products, mainly because of the ghost and scary use of colours.

I feel that the horror genre was successfully portrayed in all products through use of mise-en-scene, and I am glad our target audience feel the same way.

Q9 – Do you think the poster is effective as a horror product (poster and magazine)?
