• To attractattract my audience I did several things; -FreebiesI included free tickets etc to entice the audience. This also made the

product seem more worthy of their money. -priceThe price is particularly cheap and (along with the freebies) this makes

the product seem a good deal. It also makes it accessible to people of working class and lower class etc.

-bannersThe banners tell the audience other bands and information that’s in this

weeks magazine. This tries to pull in other people who didn’t like the main masthead etc.

-coloursThese work with the genre of the magazine and boost familiarity of the

genre, in terms of the recognition that black white and red is a rock magazine.

The audience again knows it’s them I’m talking to. It is more of a subtle addressing of the audience. This makes it seem more natural than “YOU”, and that’s why I consciously made the decision to say “FANS”. This also creates a sense of belonging.

This complies with Denis McQuail’s uses and gratifications model. It suggests that we use media for four reasons; diversion, personal relationships, personal identity and surveillance. This fits with the personal identity and relationships part of this model.
