What kind of media institution might

distribute your product and why?

• Bauer Media might want to distribute my product. My product fits with what they already publish. However, this may be a disadvantage because they already have a product (Kerrang!), much like mine that is very popular already. This would make it difficult for my product to take off. They do, however, distribute to lots of places around the world including Nigeria, Australia, Germany etc. This would mean that my product would be distributed all around the world.

• IPC Media may also want to distribute my product. They distribute NME already. This may be seen as an advantage or a disadvantage. NME is more of an indie rock genre, so this means there’s a gap for my product, and IPC will have the knowledge to make my product big. However with an already massive magazine, would there really be room for my product? It could just be swamped by NME’s large fanbase.

• Future plc may also want to distribute my product. It does not currently distribute any music magazines. This means there is definitely room for my product if they want to branch out. However, they will not have the same knowledge and contacts when it comes to the music industry and know-how to do with the product.

I would prefer IPC media to produce my magazine, because they have space for a rock/metal magazine, whilst the knowledge of the music scene.
