The train ticket enigmaNarrative structure

Form and StyleWhat I think an opening sequence should do is introduce the main and sub cast as well as the film company, set the feel and genre of the film for the audience and also the enigma to be revealed at the end of the film and for a detective film this is very easy to set up as the audience would ask why the victim was murdered and who exactly did it.I feel that our opening sequence has filled all of these boxes with 3 enigmas for the audience, (who the villains are, who the victim is to the detective and what the train ticket means) as well as credits and a clear genre.

I feel we have challenged the genre of a film like this by showing the victim, villains and protagonists as being roughly the same age which sort of has an underlying message that there is a lot of young knife crime but it isnt all young people and it could be left to them to sort it out.

We kept the speaking to a minimum to also add tension to the atmosphere.I wanted to keep the soundtrack of the opening sequence to a minimum and use it to create an atmosphere for the audience with the heartbeat sounds that speed up and get louder and the sad piano music. The colours used in the sequence I think really kept to the noir theme with dark clothes and atmosphere and the grey/white clouds and snow. It all really tied in well to create a good mise-en-scene.We used match on actions and straight cuts to edit our film as we had a narrow alley way to film in I thought it best to use scenes from both sides to add to the audiences view of the scene.
