Introduction The purpose of this checklist is to provide the customer with a holistic view of the components and services necessary to design and/or manufacture electric and hybrid vehicles. New Eagle can supply the products and support for each of the items listed below. For a full list of components available for EV and HEV projects, please request an EV Bill of Materials.

1. EV/HEV Supervisor Controller The supervisor is a programmed control module that makes integrating electric vehicle system

components easy and efficient. It is able to communicate with a vehicle’s inverter, DC-DC converter,

battery management system, with other sensors and actuators, and perform safety related HV system

monitoring. New Eagle offers pre-flashed development and production modules, source code for the

Supervisor software, and an EV Start-Up Kit to meet a variety of customer’s needs.

2. Electric Traction System The electric traction system provides electric propulsion to the vehicle and is comprised of an inverter

and motor. The systems are offered in different sizes and with different cooling options. Some

powertrain architectures require more than one inverter/motor set.

A. Motor

New Eagle offers reliable electric motors from light to heavy duty applications. Remy Motors

are available in housings, cartridges or as stator/rotator assemblies. UQM Motors are sold as a

motor-inverter package.

B. Inverter

The inverter converts the DC provided by the battery pack to AC for the electric. New Eagle offers

inverters from John Deere Electronics, Sevcon, UQM, and Rinehart Motion for a full range of

powertrain applications.

3. DC-DC Converter A DC-DC Converter converts DC voltages from the battery pack in hybrid and electric vehicles necessary

4. HV Battery Pack The HV battery pack is used to store energy to be consumed by the electric traction system. The

complete battery pack must be carefully selected for the pack voltage, pack energy, pack mounting, and

pack cooling method to fit the needs of the system.

A. HV Battery Modules/Cells

Electric and hybrid vehicles store energy in the form

of battery cells. These cells can be lead-acid,

lithium-ion, liquid metal hydride or others.

New Eagle offers recommendations for battery cells,

packs, and modules from a variety of different

suppliers.

B. HV Contactor Control Unit

The New Eagle Contactor Control Unit provides a

solution for electric and hybrid electric vehicle high

voltage distribution. It is environmentally sealed

and designed for multiple output configurations.

The Contactor Control Unit is designed to work with

the low side drivers of any New Eagle controller to

provide easy integration and control.

C. HV Service Disconnect and Fuse

A HV fuse is necessary for protecting the system from a

serious overcurrent event and a service disconnect is

needed to ensure a safe HV system during maintenance.

New Eagle offers both of these products in one refined

package which is available in several different fuse

ratings.

Battery Management System

A battery management system is needed to charge

vehicle battery cells and monitor power levels. New

Eagle offers a complete BMS solution with robust

hardware and software designed to fulfill all of the

necessary BMS functions.

5. Display

A. Custom/Embedded

New Eagle offers rugged, programmable displays for

the vehicle graphical user interface.

B. OEM Cluster Control

New Eagle can support the integration of an OEM

instrument cluster that uses CAN communication.

6. HVAC

A. Heater

An electric or hybrid vehicle may use the HV battery

energy to run a heater for the vehicle interior.

B. Air Conditioning

Like the heater, an electric or hybrid vehicle uses DC

power from the HV battery to run an air conditioning

compressor to cool the vehicle interior.

7. Power Steering Pump Electric and hybrid vehicles require a power steering

pump to create pressurize the hydraulic rack to assist in

steering the vehicle’s wheels.

8. Cooling Pumps Cooling pumps are needed to

circulate fluid through the

various system components to

keep them at an operational temperature. Depending on

the system, an oil and/or glycol cooling loop will need to

be considered.

9. Input-Output Devices

A. LV Power Distribution

An electric or hybrid vehicle requires a hub for

circuital fuses and switches. New Eagle offers a

module for fuses and switches that provides CAN

network oversight and protection for high power

circuits.

B. Pedal Interfaces

Vehicles will require a brake and an accelerator pedal.

C. Shift Selector

Electric and hybrid vehicles require an electronic user

interface to select gears for the motor. New Eagle

10. HV Charger A high voltage charger is needed to charge the battery

pack on electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The

charger needs to be selected correctly based on the

desired charging rate, available electric grid input, and

battery pack voltage. New Eagle maintains a list of

recommended

chargers.

11. Grid Interface In order to safely connect to the electrical grid for charging of the HV battery pack, the vehicle must

meet the SAE J1772 and other governing electrical codes. New Eagle offers the various components

required to facilitate these standards.

12. Data Logging and Monitor New Eagle offers various devices for logging CAN messages from a vehicle’s controller module. USB

data loggers provide users with direct access to data via a flash drive, while telematics devices use

cellular network connection to offer remote, cloud-based interface to a vehicle’s CAN messaging.

New Eagle also uniquely offers the ability to remotely flash new software via the telematics platform.

13. HV/LV Harnesses New Eagle offers high and low voltage harnesses for most

EV and HEV components. New Eagle can also design custom

harnesses for prototype and production systems.

14. Transmission/Gearbox Interface A transmission or gearbox is needed to interface with the

electric traction system to deliver torque to the wheels

through the axels.

New Eagle has experience integrating a variety of gearbox

solutions including single speed and automatic

transmissions for different vehicle classes.

15. Vehicle Electrical Interface New Eagle offers a solution to complete the interface with

the OEM electrical system. This is required in order to

maintain certain vehicle functions such as proper brake and

reverse lamp control and maintaining other safety functions

as required by FMVSS (ABS, ESC, etc.)
