“Parks for Nature. Parks for well-being. Parks for peace”: with this year’s motto the EUROPARC Federation offers a
theme that allows people to gain individual experiences and inspiration from nature and conservation.
Protected areas throughout Europe are joining this anniversary with unique activities, colourful exhibitions, and exciting
events. The celebrations aim to raise public awareness about the mission and work of protected areas whose efforts
continue to protect the natural beauty of both primeval and cultivated landscapes, fauna and flora. Park administrations
are enhancing their relationship with the local population and aim to involve people more from a socio-cultural and socio-
economic perspective of conservation and sustainable management protected areas.
Events and celebrations will take place all around Europe. Check below the list of events and activities that have

HOST Public Institution Plitvicka jezera National Park EVENT Meet your National park and be a ranger for a day - In the year of great jubilees for Plitvicka jezera National park (65 years of protection and 35 years on the UNESCO List of World Natural and Cultural Heritage) and for the promotion of European Day of Parks, employees of Department for the ecology of water and Department for forest ecosystems, initiated a one day educational program entitled “Meet your National park and be a ranger for a day” for 8th grade students from local elementary schools (Rakovica, Korenica and Mukinje) on the 14th of May 2014. Through the walk with students, employees of the NP (biochemist, biologists, geologist and forest technician) presented nature values of NP and demonstrated monitoring methods for water and forest ecosystems (how to measure lake depth, basic parameters in lake or how to take a water samples and how to measure a height of tree). Our goal was to expand student knowledge about nature values and nature protection in their own surroundings. This educational program also offered some useful information about things that our nature conservationists do and even bring students closer to choosing their possible interests in future. EVENTS IN CZECH REPUBLIC HOST Protected Landscape Area České středohoří EVENT A day out on one of the most valuable Czech steppe site - SCI Raná - Hrádek. Children w ill be able to enjoy plenty of activities, knowledge and skills competition in nature, arts and crafts, horseriding, archery, spring board etc. Activities for everyone w ill include bird watching, watching of local colony of the European Ground squirrel, plenty of field excursions, art competition or herding and sheep shaving competition. Special trains of local traditional carrier from Most and Lovosice and busses from Louny w ill be ready to take people to the event. HOST Nationalpark Eifel EVENT Wanderung auf dem Kall-Trail - Die Tour startet (und endet) an der Kirche in Vossenack. Das Kalltal ist steil und tief und trennt die Ortschaften Vossenack und Schmidt. In diesem Tal fand der Angriff auf Schmidt statt, mehrfach. Der zweite Angriff, der noch heute als “Allerseelenschlacht” bekannt ist, begann am 2.11.1944. Maßgeblich war die 28. US-Division mit den Regimentern 109., 110. und 112. beteiligt, wobei das 112. Vossenack besetzen und darüber hinaus das Kalltal und die Orte Kommerscheidt und Schmidt einnehmen sollte. HOST Majjistral nature and history park EVENT Sunset and Shearwaters - The Majjistral Park teams up with Falko - the youth section of BirdLife Malta - to set out on a cliff walk in search of the elusive Yelkouan Shearwater which returns to its colonies only at night in pitch dark. EVENTS IN MONTENEGRO HOST The Public Enterprise for National Parks of Montenegro gathering five national parks in Montenegro: - Durmitor; Biogradska gora; Lovcen; Skadar lake and Prokletije EVENT Celebration to take place in the capital city of Montenegro at the square "Sahat kula" in Podgorica from 12h to 16h on the 24th of May, through several activities: - Educational class for 60 pupils with Park educators; - Educational – promotional concert: a segment with traditional Montenegrin instruments and a segment with children’s educational-ecological modern songs; - Handcraft and local product fair: exhibition of the traditional products from five national parks of Montenegro by the traditional producers; - Exhibition of the tourism organization from the territories of five national parks and promotion of active holiday: rafting on the river Tara, kayaking and windsurfing on the Skadar Lake, climbing, jeep tours on Bjelasica region, etc. - Photo exhibition about past traditional life of Montenegrin people. - Concert with modern music for all interested. With this educational-promotional Day, National Parks of Montenegro want to emphasize the connection between the nature and the people of Montenegro and in a symbolic way bring the beauty of nature to the town of Podgorica. EVENTS IN POLAND HOST Biebrza National Park EVENT 100 ideas for the Biebrza Valley - handcraft and local product fair. This year, especially May, is an important time for Biebrza National Park. First of all, we are celebrating 20 anniversary of establishment of the Biebrza National Park. We are going to celebrate also the international day of parks, the international biodiversity day and also 10th anniversary of entering Poland to the European Union. In 1791 also the first European constitution was prepared and proclaimed. That was in Poland. All that events had happened in May. Especially, this year we want to share that information with you. To connect that events we organize one big meeting on 3rd of May. Come and celebrate with us. Lot of attraction are planed: - The presentation of handcrafts and local products like chees and honey, - The exhibition of the best pictures of the International Congress of the Wild Nature Photographers from 2013, - The movies about nature, particularly from the Biebrza Valley, - The workshop how to do the house for pollinators by yourself, - Games and rewards, but not common rewards; everybody is invited to answer the question and win the local variety of medicinal herbs or the old variety of linum to maintain the local biodiversity we also will spread the local variety of apple tress. - The event takes place between on 3rd of May 2014. EVENTS IN ROMANIA HOST Romanian Ranger Association EVENT For the Well-being of Nature and People This period, RRA together with the local school Salasu de Sus and Retezat National Park Junior Rangers will organize activities in order to sustenably promote and protect the nature rezerve "Narcissus Meadow". This rezerve is the habitat for some rare species of butterfly. In this period, it is threatened by the people who joined the Narcissus Festival. - The event takes place between 18th and 24th of May. HOST Triglav National Park EVENT
Opening of the restaurated wall painting on Pocar Farm House – museum and Triglav National Park information point - The house has been turned into museum and it is one of the oldest homesteads in the Triglav National Park. Through its appearance, rich exhibition and the story told by the guide it introduces the visitor to the life, work and architectural heritage
of the past centuries. On Sunday, 18th of May 2014, at 12.00 there will be the opening of the restaurated wall painting on the house with guided tour.
Belar Natural Science Days in Trenta - 21st and 22nd of May 2014 in Trenta - Every year in May, Information Centre of Triglav National Park in Trenta welcomes about 700 pupils from all primary schools in the surrounding areas of the TNP from Slovenija, Italy, Austria. The participants visit the Triglav National Park's walking path – Soča trail and prepare the exposition with the topic of European Day of Parks 2014. The events will take place on of 21st and 22nd of May 2014 in Trenta
Visiting alpine valleys by bike or on foot – Triglav National Park on 24th of May from 10 am -16 pm in Mojstrana / Slovenia - Triglav National Park, Slovene Alpine Museum, Slovene Alpine Association and municipality of Kranjska Gora are organising guided tour by bike or on foot of Krma and Radovna vallies on Saturday, 24th of May 2014 from 10 am -16 pm in Mojstrana / Slovenia (in front of the Slovene Alpine Museum). Guded tours include a walk to Zgornja Radovna or bike ride to Krma valley to visit one of the oldest homesteads in Triglav National Park and to see natural and cultural points of intrest. In front of museum in Mojstrana there will be workshops for children, folklore dancing and cultural programme. The event is also celebration of the European Day of Parks. More information

HOST Community Green Initiative Herbertshire Castle Park EVENT Denny & Dunipace Children's Gala This Gala, the first for many years, celebrates 10 years of the Denny & Dunipace Heritage Society. There will be a parade through the town to the park where many activities will take place during the afternoon. Community Green Initiative and Communities Along the Carron Association will be involved in sowing wildflower seeds including poppies to create a wildflower meadow and kick sampling in the River Carron as part of World Fish Migration Day. The Heritage Society will provide a great display of the heritage of the park and surrounding area.
