1. 29thAEHTAnnualConferenceinLondon(UK)
1.1.Generalaspects
The Annual Conference is the AEHT’s flagship event and is held once a year in a differentcountry; the programme includes meetings of t he Presidium, the Executive Board and theGeneralAssembly,aswellasaseriesofcontests,whichenablestudentstocompetewitheachotherinavarietyofdisciplines.The29thAnnualConferenceof theAEHTwasheld inLondonbetween23rd-28thofOctober in2017with the participation of 544 guests from23 countries. The conferencewas hosted byDocklands Academy London (DAL), a higher education institution of tourism and hospitalitywithanEnglishschool, located inCanaryWharf, the financialhubofLondon,andworking incollaborationwithpartnerrestaurants,TAS,HAZandHAZEVgroup,whichsupporttheactivitiesoftheAcademyinprovidingtargetedworkexperienceforstudentswithinthehospitalityandtourismsector.
TheConferencestartedwithanopeningceremonywithdancesandmusicallovertheworldintheglamorousvenueofChurchHouse,theheadquartersoftheChurchofEnglanddatingbacktothe1880sandlocatednexttothePalaceofWestminsterandWestminsterAbbey,whicharebothWorldHeritagesites.
All participants stayed at the spectacular four-star Guomon Hotel at Tower Bridge, which isonlyashortwalk fromthehistoricWorldHeritagesiteof theTowerofLondon,thecastleofherMajesty’sRoyalPalaceandFortress.
Thecompetitionswereheldin10categoriesonthepremisesofDALandRedbridgeCollege,apartnerschoolwhichprovideditsexcellentkitchensandvenuesformostcompetitions.
Masterclasseswereheldforbothkitchenandnonkitchenstudentsandtheorganisersoffereda variety of workshops on “Cocktail Making”, “Wine Tasting”, “Cognac Project”, “EffectiveTeaching&ClassManagement”and“EUFunding”.Significantnumberofparticipantsattendedtheworkshops.TheworkshoponEUFundinggivenjointlybythePrincipal,AysegulYesildaglarand theAcademicHead,MurrayCooper,ofDAL, subsequently yielded to implementationofjoint projects between DAL and some member schools of AEHT. One good example was aproject titled “General English and Teacher Training Programme with CLIL methodology forTeachers”, which was successfully implemented by DAL as the host school and IstitutoSuperioreMagnaghiasthevisitingschool.Theorganisersbelievethatmemberschoolsshouldbe increasinglyencouraged todevelopprojectswith respect to trainingandworkplacementbetween each other. The organisers also think that the future annual conferences shouldincludeactivitiesorworkshopstofacilitateanddevelopthiscollaboration.
TheorganisersprovidedparticipantswithOystercards,atravelcardenablingthemtousethepublictransport,themostefficientwayofcommutinginacitylikeLondon,andtoseethemainattractions,withaguidepreparedbytheorganisers.Therefore,theparticipantshadachancetomovearoundandenjoyLondonfullyattheirownpacewithoutexperiencingthehustleofthecity.TheorganisersalsoarrangedaboattourtakingtheparticipantsfromtheHoteltotheOpening Ceremony giving them the chance to see most of London on the first day of theConference.TheparticipantswerealsoprovidedacablerideallowingthemtoseeremarkablelandmarksanddevelopmentssuchasO2Arena.
TheConferencewasmainlysponsoredbytheregistrationfeesreceivedfromtheparticipants;however, the partner restaurants of DAL, TAS HAZ and HAZEV restaurant group, sponsoredmealsattheirvenuesandalsoatRedbridgeCollegethroughouttheConference.Alongsidethepartner restaurants of DAL, a number of local sponsors such as Redbridge College, Zenith

HygieneGroup, ShiningDanceAcademy, Emirates Airlines, Guoman TowerHotel, Centre forTurkey Studies (CEFTUS), T-Vine, Drury aswell as AEHT sponsors, Villeroy&Boch and CognacEmbassy,supportedtheConference.
TheConferenceendedwithaGalaDinner,which lasteduntil theearlyhoursofthemorning.Most of the participants expressed their satisfaction with the Conference giving good andencouragingfeedbacktotheorganisers.

2. Headjudges’workinggroupAfewyearsago,theorganisationalguidelinescommitteehadbeenreplacedbyahead judgesworking group bringing together all head judges of the competitions taking place during theAnnualConference.
TheheadjudgesmeetseveralmonthspriortotheConferencetoinspectthevenue/facilitiesoftheforthcomingcompetitionsandtosetuptheprogrammeandtheofficialguidelineswiththeorganizingteam.
Thisway these documents are earlier available to the participating schools, allowing them topreparewellinadvancetothevariouscompetitions.
In2017,thecompositionoftheheadjudges’workinggrouphasslightlychangedandnocountryis any longer represented several times in this group. Themembersof this groupmeton theoccasionoftheAEHTExecutiveBoardmeetingon25thMarch2017inOstend(BE).

4. 2016ChristmasinEuropeFrom 4th to 10 December 2016, the Institute IPSSEOA Buscemi of San Benedetto del Trontolocated in the province of Ascoli Piceno, in theMarch regionof Central Italy has hosted andorganized the 25th edition of Christmas in Europe whose origins date back to 1992 inKaysersberg(France).Eachyear,thisflagshipeventoftheAEHTallowsforamultitudeoffacetstobeshownthankstotheparticipationofschoolsarrivingfromalloverEurope.Forthe2016edition, nearly hundred participants have participated in this beautiful Christmas in Europeeventco-financedbytheErasmus+programmeoftheEuropeanUnion,devotedtothespiritofChristmasandorganizedaccordingtofourintangibleprinciples:
• eachschoolpresentstheregionalgastronomicspecialtiesofChristmasatafair• participatesinafolkloricparade,• preparessomedelicaciesfortheEuropeanbuffet• andmakesaperformanceattheculturalshow.
The delegations came from 11 countries, namely from Armenia (1), Belgium (1), Croatia (1),CzechRepublic (1)Spain (1), Italy (3), Latvia (1), Luxembourg (1),ContinentalPortugal (2)andtheAzores(1),Slovenia(2),and,lastbutnotleast,Sweden(2)–thatisatotalof17schoolswithmorethan95headmasters,teachersandstudents(notcountingthoseofthehostschool).And

indeedtheywerea finebunchofdelegates, representing thediversityofEurope inaspiritoffriendshipandfestivity.

5. Observationperiodsforteachers
ObservationperiodswiththePESTENAHotels&Resortsgroup
In substitution to the collaboration with STARWOOD Hotels, the AEHT has intensified itscooperation with the Portuguese hotel group PESTENA Hotels & Resorts by signing anagreementonMay17th,2016expandingtherangeofitsobservationperiodsforAEHTteacherstofurtherregions.
Thegroup, thathasa totalof51hotels inEurope,Africa,Brazil,Colombia,VenezuelaandtheUnitedStates,hasofferedtoprovideAEHTteacherswithplacementsofoneweekto10daysinOctober and November 2017 as well as between January and May 2018 in unities locatedthroughoutmainland Portugal,Madeira aswell as inNorth and SouthAfrica. It is planned toexpand the program in the future to South America and other European countries. Furtherinformation will be as usual published on the AEHT website (www.aeht.eu), as it becameavailable.Enthusiasts,roll-up.
Travelexpenseswillbeasusualbornbytheteachersparticipating in theprogramme,buttheAEHTwillreimburseupto€200perpersonuponreceiptandapprovaloftheplacementreport;anadministrativefeeof€80willhoweverbededucedformostcountriestocoverorganisationalcosts.Accommodationatthehotelandmealstakenwiththestaffwill,inthiscase,beprovidedfreeofchargebythehostcompany.

8. AEHTdatabaseandpublications
8.1.AEHTdatabase
Currently (20.09.2017), theAEHTdatabase counts336member school accounts. This numberincludesactive (300) and inactive (36) accounts. The later areaccountsofnewmembers thathavenotyetpaid theirannual fees.Besides, thereare3professionalmemberaccountsand5sponsoraccounts.
What changedwith the newdatabase,which is operational since early 2014, is thatmemberschools can use it to register directly to the AEHT Annual Conference. Furthermore, accountmanagerscanincludecontactinformationofseveralpersonsoftheirschool.Eachoneofthemwill automatically receive all official emails sent by the AEHT Head Office. Every school issupposedtocheckitsdataatleastonceayear!
What also changes with this new system is that member schools are now responsible forupdatingtheiraccountinformation.Previously,thistaskwasprovidedbytheAEHTHeadOffice.

8.2.UseofOffice365
AEHTofficialshavedecidedin2017toswitchtotheOffice365platformtostayprofessionalandupdatedwiththeITdevelopmentofourtimes.Theimplementationwilloccurinseveralphases:
- 1ststep:AEHTHeadOfficewillstartusingOffice365duringthesecondsemesterof2017.- 2ndstep:Beginning2018,allPresidiummemberswillstartusingit.- 3rdstep:Fromsecondhalfof2018,allmembersoftheExecutiveBoardwillberequiredto

Duringthefirstsemesterof2016,anewwebsitehasbeenputonlinebythewebmasteroftheAEHT, Ahti Paju, together with Vice-presidents Klaus Enengl and Neeme Rand. As the use ofmobilephones (smartphones)andtabletcomputershas increasedsignificantly, the IT teamoftheAEHTiscreatingaplatformfacilitatingaccesstothesitefromthesemedia.Thisplatformisnowfullyoperational.

ElectionsIn addition to the electronic messages listed in the table at section 9, a call forcandidates was sent out by e-mail in spring 2017 (deadline for application wasMay20th) as part of the process of the election of National Representatives; and themembers in countrieswithmore than one candidatewere invited to cast their votes

Despite several successive invitations, certaincountries have unfortunately not replied to the call and, as a result, the AEHT is stillwithout national representative. Potential candidates should contact the AEHT HeadOffice.Inaddition,thereisatieatthesecondroundinIrelandandtherefore,theIrishelections have not yet ended. The status of these elections is summarized in theattached table. The election of a new Presidium from among the NationalRepresentativeswilltakeplaceatthenextmeetingoftheExecutiveBoardinNovember2017,andthenewlyelectedmemberswillbeconfirmedintheirpoststhefollowingdayattheGeneralAssembly.Inthiscontext,acallforcandidateswillbesentoutbyemailinOctober2017.

The main aim of the ‘Jugendpräis’ consist in offering ashowcaseforpromotiontothemostsignificantandinnovativetransnationalprojectsinthefieldofyouth,whichhavehadanimpactonthelocal,regionalornationalcommunity

The project proposal (No2016-2-LU02-KA105-000248) submitted onApril 21st, 2016 at SNJ -ServiceNationaldelaJeunesse,theLuxembourgAgencyatthattimeinchargeofyouthmobilityprojects within the “Erasmus+” programme, to obtain a EU co-funding for the Christmas inEurope event held in 2016 in San Benedetto del Tronto (IT) was approved mid-July 2016. ApreparatorymeetingfortheeventtookplaceduringtheAEHTAnnualConferenceinLondon(UK).
The project itself was carried out according to the criteria of the programme and therequirementsofthecallfortender2016,recommendingtheintegrationofdisadvantagedyoungpeople (froma social, economic,medical, educational, cultural and / or geographical point ofview) to the group, and the promotion of European citizenship and tolerance among youngpeople by encouraging their socialization with a very divers group of students and theirencounterwithaverycosmopolitanpopulationwithdifferentwaysoflifeandcustoms.
This event has enjoyed great popularity and good coverage in several media (articles innewspapers,InternetsitesandFacebookpages,aso.).ThefinalprojectreportwasfiledFebruary14th,2017withtheLuxembourgAgencyandwasapprovedonMarch2nd,2017.
On April 5th, 2017, the General Secretary submitted a new proposal No 2017-2-LU01-KA105-023935 with the programme “Erasmus+” at the newly responsible Erasmus Plus Agency,Anefore,thistimetoco-financetheChristmasinEuropeeventtakingplaceinDecember2017inFatima(IPT).
On July 12th, 2017, the Agency informed the AEHT Head Office that the project had beenrefused.Thereasonsgivenbytheevaluators,e.g.theirrelevanceoftheobjectivesoftheprojectwith those of the program, the requirement of adding further exchanges per year to theprogramme, etc., seem aberrant given the project's acceptance for the last six years and thenumber of participants involved. On the other hand, the evaluators require a greaterinvolvement of the young people in the elaboration of the project and a better use of theYouthpass.TheGeneralSecretaryhasalreadycontacted theprogram's technicalassistants for

further explanationswith a view to rewriting theproject according to evaluators’ suggestionsandprogramselectioncriteria.Ameetingwillbesoonscheduled.ThecommunitygrantrepresentsasignificantsourceoffinancialsupportbothfortheorganizersandparticipantsoftheeventandtheAEHTofficialswilldotheirutmosttorecoverthissourceoffunding.
