IntroductionEuroanaesthesia is an international platform for presenting original unpublished data and sharing ideas for innovation in anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, intensive care, emergency medicine and pain treatment as well as disseminating evidence-based knowledge of primary clinical relevance.

Background » During the previous year’s conference surveys were carried�out�aimed�at�defining�how�satisfied�our�delegates were with the tools available to them during our conference. Additionally, how and what may�be�done�differently�for�them�to�benefit�the�most�from their conference experience.

» On-site feedback was also made available, especially to key attendees.

Tools & SystemsAs previously mentioned, we successfully implemented Das Terminal for the second time into our set of conference tools. We used Das Terminal to offer�a�new�dimension�for�to�our�traditional�poster�displays. Using their tablet and corresponding App we could create truly interactive e-poster presentations, the likes of which weren’t previously achievable. Not only were all the conferences posters located on each device, the content and title of posters was searchable via the App.

With these tool, we had a 100 % success rate in terms of content delivery and playback.

PartnersAs our partner for on-site e-poster management and displays, Das Terminal was chosen.

Their responsibilities included organizing the conference posters pre-uploading, displaying and managing the posters on-site, and facilitating meeting scheduling during the conference.

In addition to those responsibilities, their knowledge was�also�drawn�on�to�place�the�displays�effectively�during the conference to encourage our desired visitor flow.

ResultsACHIEVEMENT OF OBJECTIVES

Euroanaesthesia 2016, we achieved a very high number�of�attendees�due�to�the�excellent�scientific�programme with

» 507�speakers�from�40�different�countries

» 151 sessions in 14 parallel rooms

» 13 pre-congress courses

» 19 refresher courses

» 88 symposia

» 8 workshops

» 3 interactive sessions

» 27 lectures

» 3 meet the expert sessions

» 9 pro-con debates.

Abstracts were presented in electronic format

» 1371 e-posters were presented during 130 abstract sessions

Prizes were awarded for the Best Abstracts and a Late-Breaking Abstract session was added to showcase the latest research results.

From our partner system Das Terminal we later learned that over 4500 posters had been shared during the conference. Valuable connections were made both within our association and externally, further growing our organization’s reach.

IMPACT

At the conclusion of the conference it was clear that the attendees were left better informed and having made a number of connections while attending. Industry best-practice was reviewed and the bar for informative anesthetic conferences was once again raised.

FINANCIAL

The investments that were made into the new display mediums, namely Das Terminal lead to some space savings at the venue.

InnovationAs for the e posters - our intention that every single speaker would have the opportunity to present their research to their peers. One of the novelties of the terminals we deployed was that speakers easily switched between one poster and the next meaning less time was spent on moving around in the poster area to locate the appropriate poster or speaker of interest.

As a direct consequence, audience retention remained high throughout the presentation period, and each delegate could receive the same amount of attention as the next.
