Place shank of drill head into drill press chuck so that jaws of chuck are on the flats of shank, thentighten. See Figure 1. Rotate Drill Head to the side and insert rods in support body through drill head, lifting guard to allow clearance for rods. See Figure 2. Rotate Drill Head and slide support body untilrollers contact drill press column. See Figure 3. Position hook arm on support body; place lock knobthrough hook arm and thread into support body. To avoid interference with drill press table rack, the hookarm can be placed on either side of the support body. Do not tighten lock knob. See Figure 4. Slidehook arm forward until roller contacts back of drill press column and tighten lock knob. See Figure 5.Raise and lower drill press quill and verify that no binding occurs.

    Installation of Bits

Place bits into drill head spindles and tighten set screws. Be sure flat on shank of bit or bushing is facingset screw before tightening. All three bits should project the same distance from the spindles. If you areusing 7/64” bits, use the steel bushings provided. See Figure 6.

    Drill Depth Setting

The drill depth can be set two ways. The preferred method is to use the depth stop on the drillpress. If your drill press does not have a depth stop, a stop is built into the drill head. To setthe stop, place a block with a thickness equal to the desired drill depth under the guard andlower drill head until bits contact door. Loosen guard knob and slide up until spring is fullycompressed and tighten knob. Test stop to verify correct adjustment. See Figure 7.

The fence must be set parallel to the drill head to obtain accurate results when drilling hingeholes. Position drill press table at the appropriate height and lock into place. Clamp subtableto drill press table. With the drill press off, lower drill head until outside bits contact subtableand leave small indentations. Draw a reference line through the two outside indentations theentire width of the subtable. Mark a second line 1-1/16” (27mm) back from the reference line. This is the zero tab width line. See Figure 8. Measure back from the zero tab width line therequired tab width for the hinges you are installing and mark a line. This is the hinge tab widthline. For instance, if you are installing hinges that require a 6mm tab width, measure backfrom the zero tab width line 6mm and draw a line the entire width of the subtable. See Figure8. Place fence along the hinge tab width line and clamp into place. To minimize time for futuresetups, follow the simple procedure below. Remove the center bit from drill head and drillholes into subtable approximately 1/4” deep. These holes can now be used as positioningholes for future setups. Simply place subtable on drill press table and place bits into position-ing holes. Secure subtable to drill press table. All lines previously drawn on subtable can nowbe used. Note: If the drill press table is moved, the above procedure must be repeated toensure the drill head is parallel to the fence.

Optional AccessoryEuro-EzeTM Drill Head Blum Insertion Ram

The Insertion Ram is designed to press in dowelled Blum and Grass pattern hinges. The Insertion Ramattaches to the Euro-EzeTM Drill Head. Do not use this Insertion Ram on any other piece of equipmentother than the Euro-EzeTM Drill Head.

SetupInsertion Ram InstallationRemove and discard 8-32x3/4” socket head screws from T-Blocks if supplied with unit. Position Inser-tion Ram over T-blocks so that notch in Ram Plate faces down. Push Insertion Ram back so that squarebosses on T-blocks engage with square cutout in Ram. See Figure 10. Place washers on 8-32 x 3/8”button head cap screws and thread into T-Blocks. Tighten screws. See Figure 11. If you are installingthe Insertion Ram on a Euro-Eze Drill Head that is installed on a small drill press, it may be necessary tocut the rods. Cut the rods so that there is approximately 1/4” of clearance between crash plate and rods.

Positioning Insertion Ram The Insertion Ram is in the “up” position during drilling of hinge mounting holes. After drilling is com-plete, the drill press is turned off and the Insertion Ram is rotated to the down position. Rotate the Inser-tion Ram by gripping the ball knobs on each side. To position Insertion Ram in the down position, pullInsertion Ram outward and rotate it down 90 degrees. Pulling outward disengages the T-block boss fromthe notch and allows the bracket to rotate. Push Insertion Ram upward to engage it on T-Block bosses.See Figure 12. To position Insertion Ram in the up position, push Insertion Ram down, rotate upward 90degrees and push back. Pushing the Insertion Ram back engages the T-block boss in the Insertion Ramnotch. See Figure 13. Practice rotating the Insertion Ram between the up and down position.

Ball Plunger and Block AdjustmentPosition Insertion Ram in the up position. The Ram is supplied with a large and small block. It isshipped with the large block installed. If the hinge you are installing requires the smaller block, removelarge block and replace with small block. Using a screwdriver, adjust ball plunger so that hinge is heldin place when snapped over block. Tilting the hinge to one side and then snapping it over the springplunger works best. See Figure 14. After adjustment of the spring plunger is complete, loosen the twoRam Plate screws. You should be able to slide block left and right. See Figure 15. Snap hinge overblock and slide hinge so that center of screw heads rest on index pins of Ram. See Figure 16. TightenRam Plate screws. Practice removing and replacing hinge, and you’ll find it quite easy to place thecenter of screws on index pins.

Hinge InstallationDrill hinge mounting holes in door. Turn off drill press . Place hinge over block so that index pins line upwith center of hinge screw heads. Using ball knobs, rotate Insertion Ram to the down position and pushupward to engage T-Block bosses. See Figure 12. While holding Insertion Ram up with hand on ballknob, slowly lower Insertion Ram with drill press feed handles . Using the hand on the ball knob, positionhinge dowels directly over the center of holes. Make sure the hinge dowels are centered over theholes before attempting to press in hinge. See Figure 17. Applying slow even pressure, press inhinge. See figure 18. Retract drill press quill. Pull Insertion Ram downward and rotate to the up position.Installation of the hinge is complete.

Optional AccessoryEuro-EzeTM Drill Head Blum Tab Setting Jig

    Overview

The Euro-EzeTM Drill Head Tab Setting Jig is designed to quickly and accurately set the tab width inmillimeters for European hinges. Unplug drill press before using the jig.

    Setup

Tab SettingRotate knob on jig until arrow on slider points to the required hinge tab width. See Figure 19.

Figure 19. Setting Tab Width on Jig

Slide shield upward to allow clearance for jig. Place bit pilot holes in jig over two outside bits in Euro-EzeTM Drill Head as shown in Figure 20. Holding the jig with one hand, lower drill press quill until jig restson table. Lock drill press quill so that Euro-EzeTM drill head holds jig firmly against subtable as shown inFigure 21. Place fence against back edge of base and clamp to subtable. See Figure 22. Unlock drillpress quill and remove jig from drill head. The fence is now positioned to drill the set tab width.
