Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord, Welcome to Sacred Heart Church! It is a blessing to have you join our worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Your presence and prayerful
participation enrich our Liturgy. Thanks for joining us! Happy Father’s Day! I extend my prayers and best wishes to the men of our parish community who “father” their children with loving care and wisdom. May the sacrifices you make for your family be returned through their care and love for you. St. Paul in his letter to the Galatians today reminds us that, “Through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus.” In Baptism we were clothed with Christ. We “are all one in Christ Jesus.” Being “children of God” is our common identity. We are to refrain from focusing on our differences. We are to focus on our oneness in Christ Jesus. Paul speaks of clothing ourselves with Christ. In clothing ourselves with Christ, we need to answer the question posed by Jesus to his disciples, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter gives his answer, “The Christ of God.” Peter would come to learn the “cross” that accompanies faith in Jesus as “the Christ of God.” Jesus speaks to the consequences of following him, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” At the heart of Jesus’ teaching is the challenge to “deny” oneself. One “loses his life”, one denies oneself in the sacrifices husbands and wives make for one another. Parents deny themselves through the sacrifices they make for their children. We lose ourselves, we save ourselves, in denying ourselves for the sake of another, especially the needy. The cross we take up daily is often seen in denying ourselves and losing ourselves for the benefit of others. May the
Risen Lord bless us with the grace to take up our cross daily. Peace be with you! God bless, Fr. McKee

“Thoughts on a Tragedy” This past Sunday, our nation dealt once more with a senseless tragedy. This time in Orlando, FL.
Once again, a high-powered assault weapon took the lives of 49 people, while wounding over 50 people. Some would say it’s a hate crime! Others might say it’s an act of a terrorist! It was the absence of love! The response of the family and friends of the victims has been all about love. Love is seen in the outpouring of support for those who grieve, care for those wounded and words of sympathy from across the globe. Let us remember in prayer the victims and their families. In love, may we be advocates for common sense gun restrictions in our country.
