Etiscan SAPConnect

Etiscan SAPConnect.net allows the con-nection of mobile data entry devices viaradio communication or transmissionstation (offline) to SAP ERP ECC 6.0(formerly SAP R/3).

What is so special about this interface?Etiscan SAPConnect.net links up themobile data entry device like a commonuser. The screen the user normally seeswill be transformed and the input fieldsthe user should fill in are displayed onthe mobile device. Input fields with sta-tic data (e.g. plant ID, etc) will be filledwith default values derived from a con-figuration file and therefore require nouser input. The same is true for fieldswhich could be calculated or derivedfrom external data sources.

Mobile applications have special requi-rementsIf you are sitting on a fork-lift truck transporting goods, you can not deal with complicated dialogs on a mobile data device at the same time.Being aware of this we designed our interface to be most easy to use for users of mobile data entry devices.

Dialogues were adjusted so that only really necessary data has to be filled inwhile mobile.

All static data which is stored at theradio server will be linked with the incoming datasets and then forwardedto be booked in SAP ERP ECC 6.0. Thatmeans even staff usually not workingwith computers are enabled to input postings with absolute reliability andaccuracy in SAP ERP ECC 6.0. Doublepostings will be avoided effectively.

The booking result will be displayedon the mobile device at once if connected via radio transmission, enabling the user to react in case of errors.

High data integrityAs all entry operations are booked di-rectly in SAP ERP ECC 6.0, there is nodatabase in between, no service andno intermediate layer. A dataset is stored the moment theuser gets the confirmation on the mo-bile data device – exactly the same asif entered through the on-screen dialo-gue.

The confirmation is exactly the same asdisplayed on the SAP GUI. Further pro-cessing of batch files which are error-prone is unnecessary.

Short project duration, low costs Until now the usage of mobile dataentry devices in a SAP Environmentwere synonym to high costs and longproject duration. Until now! In usingthe already existing SAP input dialo-gues the effort of customizing is redu-ced to a minimum. Therefore completesolutions with wireless mobile dataentry devices are possible at a very attractive price.

What has to be done for implementingmobile data entry?1. Planning dialogues for mobile usage

Mobile Data Entry Devices – free choiceBecause Etiscan SAPConnect.net is compatible to all mobile data entry devices used by Etiscan, only your requirements are relevant for choosingthe device.

Whether you use mobile barcode scan-ners, fork-lift-terminals or RFID devices- Etiscan SAPConnect.net is preparedfor it.

Supported hardwareAll Windows CE 6.0/CE 7.0/EmbeddedCompact 2013/Mobile 6.5 or WindowsPhone 7.0 devices, preferably hardwareof Zebra (former Symbol/Motorola) andIntermec, because of the already exis-ting clients. For devices of other manu-facturers the Etiscan client has to bemodified. The effort varies between 1-2 working days.Clients for Android and iOS devices arein development.

Our solution for your software distribu-tion – Etiscan Deployment ServerThe Etiscan Deployment Server provi-des automatic software distribution onthe mobile data capture devices(MDEs). Newer versions of the soft-ware will be deployed at the server. Atthe moment of a login on clients thenew version is automatically detected,downloaded and installed.

Multi-language solutionOur solutions can optionally be createdas multi-language solutions. You areplanning to expand to new locations oranother plant is to be equipped withour Auto-ID solution in a subsequentstep: Our solution is prepared.

Both the Etiscan applications on thebarcode scanners as well as the hard-ware itself are Unicode enabled. Froma simple translation table, the corres-ponding content can be read quicklyand can be easily translated and main-tained by our customers to all langua-ges.

SAP license situationSzenario A: Named User• The User logs on to the scanner

with his SAP-User-Data• All postings will be processed as

being logged in to the into the common GUI.

Advantage: All postings are related tothe real User.Disadvantage: There has to be a SAP-User license for every Scanner-User.

Scenario B: Composite-User• A user, whose credentials are stored

in SAPConnect, logs on to the scan-ner.

• SAPConnect logs on to SAP as Composite-User ‘SCANNER’

• The details-field is used for recor-ding the scanner-user who did the booking.

Advantage: Very few SAP-User are ne-cessary, for example one per location.Disadvantage: It is harder to figure outwho really processed the booking.

To Verify: Are multiple User allowed touse only one SAP-User (not simultane-ously).

Service and support

Once a mobile data-capturing solutionis installed, many essential processes inthe company depend on the correctfunctionality of the solution. This illustra-tes the importance of a fast reaction incase of a malfunction. Etiscan providessupport by helping with a competenthotline. Remote Access with Teamvie-wer is possible as well as on-site ser-vice with minimal reaction time and theusage of alternate devices. Etiscan pro-vides competent advise for an indivi-dual support-package.

Release change/ReliabilityAll SAP GUI fields are addressedthrough referencing the name of thefield and not the order. Therefore a re-lease change is expected to result inlittle customization effort.
