A Year in the Life of Eta Zeta Written by Brandon Harris Hey Guys! It’s been a very long year filled with tons of interesting events. We had an incredible amount of brothers participate in national Push events, with a special shout out to Andrew Chinn and Wes Clarkson for their incredible participation on Journey of Hope. However, Eta Zeta has completely surpassed that impressive precedent set by last year with a whopping seven brothers already on the roster for national Push Events and many others working on their applications. Brothers Ian Kowalski, Brandon Harris, Nicholas Liang-Meason, Ryan Cook, and Michael Flemming are all participating in the Journey of Hope. Brothers Jerrit Fuller and Zachary Blackmon are participating in Gear Up Florida. Eta Zeta alone will raise over 40,000 dollars, way to go guys! This year’s fall rush class was a huge success. We were able to recruit seven incredible men to the associateship process. These guys come from multiple states, and one even comes from Ireland. They are madly attempting to prepare for I week which starts at 12:00 AM on Sunday October 31 st , so if you want to swing by campus and give them a scare, then please come by. There is a wide diversity of campus involvement in the house. Brothers are littered throughout SGA, CUB, College Republicans, Mock Trial (started by our own associate Skyler Smith), among countless other organizations. We have been working hard to apply the leadership and organizational skills that we have learned throughout our time as brothers to Pi Kappa Phi- Eta Zeta November 2010 Volume 1, Issue 3 Fall 2010 RUSH Pi Kapp Photo shoot in Dana fountain The Eta Zeta Gata

organizations throughout the campus. Many brothers have taken on the responsibilities of planning key campus events such as Casino Night. Casino Night is comparable to a college version of Senior Prom. There is dancing, fun activities, mock gambling, and much more. This event requires hours of planning, numerous emails sent and forwarded, and countless more phone calls. We are proud to say that Brother Michael Flemming is planning this year’s Casino Night, and we are all thrilled! While we have already accomplished so much, the brothers of Eta Zeta are hungry to improve their reputation as dedicated brothers, as well as live up to the standards of the gold and white. We invite you to stop by campus, and just hang out or spend the day with us. Forever bound in brotherhood, The brothers of Eta Zeta

Eta Zeta’s commitment to Push America over the past year has stamped the roster of the annual National events, particularly the Journey of Hope. Currently, six brothers and one alumnus are registered for events, and have begun fundraising. This year, the chapter also turned Scaffold Sit into an autumn event and raised over $3,000 in one weekend. Currently, Eta Zeta ranks in the top ten, nationally, for fundraising, and plans to finish there, beating such notable high-rollers as TCU (Eta Chi) and Colorado (Eta Gamma). The chapter has also renewed its focus on service. Currently in the process of creating bonds with the Arc of Mecklenburg and Kiwanis of Ballantine. During Push Week, which also consisted of a Miss Push Pageant (with Ms. Adora Reid, from Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. crowned as the winner), and a movie night, the brothers attended Circle of Friends at Forest Hill Church. In an exciting game of Name That Tune, the chapter got to have a lot of fun but also help provide a lot of joy for the participants.

Dear Alumni, Reporting to you is Walid Asmar, I am HZ # 215 and I have taken over house chair for the rest of this semester. As some of you may know, this year we have made great strides in improving the overall image of our house. One major change that we have achieved is painting the main area of the house. Unfortunately, my budget as house chair has been compromised due to paint; this has set me back from accomplishing my duties and goals as house chair. Among these goals are to finish painting the house, getting ten new couches, and putting up blinds to cover the windows. Many brothers have contributed from their own personal pockets, but it has become difficult for them to contribute when they are already paying dues and for the cost of school. I have estimated that we will need:

• $5,500 for 10 new couches

• $700 for 6 blinds, they are so expensive because the windows measure 51 width by 127 length

• $150 for more paint and supplies

• $150 for a new grill

• $150 to fill in the back where the chimney is located so that we can have sufficient space for our growing house

So the total amount that we are asking for is $6,650. We understand that this is a substantial amount but we are sure that through these contributions our house will make great strides in improving our morality for our house. We hope you can support us through a donation and we hope you can come check out the improvements as we work towards renovating our house. Thank you for all your help & BIB, Walid Asmar HZ #215
