Make Your Next Work Meeting Healthier
It seems like we see the typical donuts and pastries at every work meeting we attend. This can be trouble for individuals trying to maintain a healthy diet, considering a single donut or pastry could contain 300 calories or more. Next time, try serving some healthier food options. Below are some suggestions for healthier snacks for any time of day. Pass the water. Be sure to have cups on hand for a water fountain or bottled water as a beverage
option. Bypass the sugar-sweetened beverages including soda and fruit juices.
Washed, fresh fruit such as apples, bananas and grapes require very little preparation. Fruit trays with sliced fruit and dip are easy, great for any time of day and can satisfy any sweet tooth.
Veggie trays, including raw carrots, celery, cucumbers, broccoli or tomatoes, are great for a meeting over lunch and can be served with a low-fat dip or hummus.
Nuts, such as walnuts and almonds, are easy to store, prepare and have a variety of health benefits. Although they are very nutritious, be mindful they have high caloric content so providing nuts in an individual serving may be helpful in controlling portion size. Keep in mind, nut allergies are common.
Whole-grain crackers are great with hummus or low-fat cheeses and are a hearty option for lunch or afternoon meetings.
Look for creative ways to make your meetings more physically active, such as taking a “walking meeting” or building in stretch/walk breaks for participants.

Fun DIY: Paper Heart Wreath
For the wreath: - Colored cardstock - Mini stapler - Ribbon - Paper cutter Instructions:
Step 1. Fold your 8.5" x 11" cardstock
paper in half, cut off one inch strips in
various colors using your paper cutter.
Step 2. Fold the two open ends in to
make a heart and use your mini staple to
staple shut. Repeat to make as many
hearts as you'd like.
Step 3. Line your hearts up in a circle and start stapling them
to each other on the back side so the staple does not show
in the front
Step 4. Staple a piece of ribbon on two hearts across from
each other. If you’d like, you can also make a pom-pom to
decorate your wreath.

Create a Car Winter Emergency Kit Wintertime can be dangerous for travelers. Not only do you sometimes have to con-tend with deteriorating road conditions caused by snow and ice, but life-threatening situations can arise if you find yourself stranded on the road for a significant amount of time. Here are some tips to help you prepare and make your wintertime travels safer.
It is always helpful to have the following in your car in case of an emergency:
A cell phone, portable charger and extra
batteries
Jumper cables
Blankets and extra layers of clothing like
hats, coats and mittens
A flashlight with extra batteries
A first-aid kit
Water and nonperishable snacks
Shovel and a windshield scraper
In addition to self-preparations for winter, make sure your car is ready for the weather too. With snow blocking vision and ice causing slippery roads, it is important to re-member the following:
Keep a full gas tank.
Make sure your antifreeze levels are sufficient.
Ensure that the heat and defroster properly work.
Check fluid levels and brake levels. For more safety precautions, visit the Government Winter Precautions webpage at https://www.ready.gov/car, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention webpage at https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/winter/beforestorm/supplylists.html#car or contact the Estill County Extension office.
