Don’t move, improveIt is goodbye to black granite, says Danny Hanlon, Chief Operating Officer at Granite
Transformations, reporting that black now makes up less than 35 percent as people whocan’t move improve and choose a colour they can live with for the next five or six years.
Granite Transformations has seen a upturn in demand for earthy tones such as LagoAmbra, Terra Ombra, Tiger Beige and Rosso Fuoco. Vibrant Cristallo Orange is another
big seller and eyecatching Dream Green is predicted to be a hit in 2011.Featuring muted blacks and warm pinks overlaid with cloudy grey and milky white, LagoAmbra is a popular choice with homeowners. Thanks to its affordable top that fits on top
concept, Granite Transformations is well placed to meet consumer demand formakeovers that don’t involve ripping out the entire kitchen.

Developed in response to trends in
kitchen and interior design, the
Axiom® range offers a wide variety of
looks for design conscious consumers.
Colour and texture are proven ways to
transform the look and feel of a room – the
choice within the Axiom® range opens up
endless possibilities for the kitchen. Recent
advances in laminate technology from the
Formica Group mean that textured finishes
combined with realistic décor papers are
available with the look and feel of natural
materials. Textures available from Axiom®
include premium polished stone looks,
sophisticated wood finishes and natural
stone effects.
Using darker materials with a sheen or
reflective quality such as Kerala Granite from
the Etchings range can create a stunning
look, adding a modern touch and a fresh
twist to a dark surface. Lustre captures the
translucent features of natural quartz,
resulting in a softly polished premium stone
look that brings a subtle and sophisticated
shimmer to kitchen surfaces.
Axiom® Shapes is an innovative concept
in kitchen design. There are five specially
developed, shaped worktops in the range,
which allow the overall design of the
kitchen to be specifically tailored to
individual needs. Available in Bowed,
Rectangular, Square Edged and two Circular
designs, Axiom® Shapes are laminated on
both faces and pre-edged on all sides,
making installation quick and easy. This
allows an all surface finish, matching
horizontal worktops with end carcassing
and splashbacks. Each Axiom® Shapes
component can be used at a variety of
heights as a worktop, shelf or stand alone
breakfast bar to allow the quick and easy
creation of a bespoke look.
Axiom® worktops feature top quality
Formica laminate and are heat, impact,
moisture and scratch resistant. Axiom®
worktops are made using superior
component materials and offer excellent
detailing and a durable surface, which is
inherently hygienic.

Trade Mouldings has invested in laser edging, an advanced
technique that gives the edging a seamless bond with the board so
there is no glue line where grime can collect. It also prevents water
ingress to the substrate. The company is using the Raukantex Laser
Edge, which is a polypropylene with a high chemical and
temperature resistance and does not require conventional glue.
The technique was initially used for the Odyssey acrylic door
collection with a 1mm acrylic sheet laminated to an mdf core and
the polypropylene edging material applied to form a seamless
edge. The new technique means that Trade Mouldings can offer a
complete doors service from stock or in bulk, including membrane
pressed five piece doors, timber doors and now high quality edged
doors. Odyssey doors are initially available in Gloss Black, Gloss
White and Gloss Cream. Other colours will be added.

Curvecraft can make any size, shape or profile curved door in any wood species
to match any existing flat door range. MD Paul Murray says that all that is
needed is a wood sample and Curvecraft will do the rest. Paul developed the
process himself when, during his time as a bespoke furniture maker, he was
challenged to make a curved door. ”There are a number of processes involved
to achieve the end product and
the way in which the doors are
finished is unique to us. We
make sure any joins are covered
by a veneer, which gives a
smooth, seamless finish,” he
explains.

Duo-Go AcrylicThe popular range of Duo PVC edged doors from
HPP has recently been extended to include nine new
acrylic finishes, taking the total number of décors
available in the Duo range to 21. The décors, which
include Aubergine, Red and Anthracite, have been
specifically selected to satisfy the current demand for
distinctive gloss uni-colours and can be used alone,
in combination with each other or mixed with
woodgrains.
The new doors are manufactured using Senoplast acrylic faced mdf, which has
many benefits over other finishes – the main one being a much higher level of scratch
resistance. As HPP manufactures all of its doors on site, Duo doors are available in
bespoke sizes ranging from 115-2350mm. They are also available with a choice of
matching solid PVC edging or stylish 3D edging that creates an attractive glass effect
finish. Pictured above is Aubergine.

doors from hppHPP has been manufacturing doors for
over 15 years and in that time has
become established as a leading supplier
to the fitted furniture industry. Since entering
the market in the early 1990s, HPP has evolved
to offer an unrivalled collection of vinyl wrapped
and PVC edged doors as well as accessories,
samples and complementary products.
Vinyl wrapped door collectionEvery door in HPP’s vinyl wrapped collection is
manufactured by the company on site to
bespoke sizes on a seven day turnaround. The
current range of 26 styles and 35 colours is
constantly evolving to keep up with the latest
market trends and constantly improving vinyl
qualities that offer more realistic wood effects
than ever before.
The quality of every door is important to
HPP and they know that this goes beyond
simply the raw materials that go into the
finished product. Paying attention to
infrastructure is equally important. Recent
investment includes a brand new twin table
press, which has increased capacity and
efficiency as well as enhancing the quality of the
finished product. A fully integrated IT system
means that HPP’s customers can be sure that all
their orders are handled only once, minimising
the risk of errors and optimising turnaround.
A Unique ChoiceA recent innovation from HPP has been the
creation of a sub brand that allows customers to
show doors to clients without revealing any
direct link to HPP. The new brand titled A
Unique Choice has gone down exceptionally
well with existing customers and includes a

Blum’s Dynamic Space kitchen planning system divides theroom into five areas of activity with specially designed
storage components to suit each one. The larder unit, shownhere positioned next to the oven, keeps frequently used
ingredients to hand while the Space Corner (below) makesthe most of otherwise wasted space. Blum Sales and
Marketing Director David Sanders says that the trend forcreating zones in the kitchen is a logical step to establish
work flows and efficient ergonomics but should not impedethe planning process by using zones as inflexible templates.

Matthew Lord, Managing Director of LDL Components Ltd isdelighted to report an increase in sales. ”LDL is performingexceptionally well at the moment,” he says. ”I am delighted toreport that sales were up by 15 percent in 2010. The openingof the new Scottish office will further consolidate this strongposition. The slump in new build caused by the recession hasclearly had a negative effect, but I think this has been balancedby a boost in kitchen sales caused by people staying put andrenovating their homes rather than moving.
“I have been actively involved in the industry for the last15 years and during that time innovative product developmentin the sector has had a massive effect on the kitchen market. The main innovation has been in the area of storage solutions, together with the introduction of soft close and, more recently, the advent of electronic drawers.
“I predict further impressive growth within the storagecomponents sector stimulated by ongoing new productdevelopment. Storage components are vitally important formaximising available space within cabinets and allowing theconsumer to store items in an organised and accessible way. Thelarge increase we have seen in sales to date can be attributed toboth a growing awareness and an expectation on the part of theconsumer and also to the increasingly innovative and ingeniousproducts coming on to the market. Electronic drawers areproving exceptionally popular. The benefits are particularlynoticeable when combined with a waste bin solution, which canbe opened by touching with your toe or knee.”
Currently drawer storage solutions are the most popular itemsin LDL’s range. One of the key new products is BlumTandembox Intivo. Designed as an upgrade for BlumTandembox drawers, Intivo side panels allow the drawers to becustomised with different colours and textures to complementkitchen furniture. The product is available to fit cabinet sizesfrom 300 to 1000mm with options for inner drawers and sinkdrawers and a wide choice of internal dividers. Oak is a majortheme in LDL’s new range with a complete range of oak insertsand accessories for Blum Tandembox drawers.
