Introduction

This publication is for new full-time students. It explains the registration processes for

students who are due to start in September 2013 and sets out the actions you need to take

both before arriving in Sheffield (referred to as Pre-Registration) and during Intro Week

(referred to as Registration).

Part-time and distance-learning students will receive information by email. Further

information is also available at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/registration

Reading through everything now, following the instructions given, and taking the actions

required by the deadlines will make the registration process simpler and quicker on

arrival.

Some sections in this booklet are highlighted in colour according to whether the

information applies to the following student categories:

We look forward to welcoming you in person to the University in September.

Equal opportunities policy for students

The University of Sheffield is committed to the elimination of unlawful discrimination

and to the promotion of equality of opportunity for students and prospective students.

The aim of the policy is to ensure that all students and prospective students are treated

equally. This policy is available online at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/ssid/welfare/equal/

policy.html

The University also has an Equality and Diversity Strategy, which can be viewed at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/equalityanddiversity

Monitoring of Equal Opportunities

To help us monitor the implementation and effectiveness of our Equal Opportunities

Policy, we ask all new students to provide some personal information at Registration. We

collect information on the ethnic background of all students, educational background,

religious identity and the level and type of disability present in the student population as a

whole.

You are not required to provide

this information but you might find it helpful to know that all data collected on this

subject is treated in the strictest of confidence, and processed in accordance with the rules

governing

the University’s registration under the Data Protection Act. Additionally, religious

identity data will not be held in your individual student record and will not be accessible

or viewable by members of staff.

Section one:

Registration explained

Registration is the process by which an applicant who has accepted an unconditional

offer of a place, formally becomes a student at the University of Sheffield.

Our registration process comprises two stages:

• Pre-Registration (actions to be taken online before arriving in Sheffield);

• Registration (steps to follow and actions to be taken upon arrival at the University

in Intro Week).

Pre-registration

Pre-registration includes a series of pre-arrival steps which are detailed on pages 6-7.

Once you have accepted an unconditional offer of a place, and within two months of the

start of your course, you will be contacted by email by our pre-registration service (email

from [email protected]). You will be given instructions on where and how

to complete the pre-registration actions online. To ensure you can take these actions, it

is essential that we hold the right email address for you.

Please make sure that you keep us informed of any changes to your email address:

Page 4: Essential Guide To September and October. · degree (BA, BSc, BEng, BMedSci, MBChB, BDS etc.) or ii. an undergraduate level Masters Degree (MMath, MEng, MChem etc.). POSTGRADUATE

• email the Applicant Information Desk at [email protected]

before 2 September; or

• email [email protected]

after 2 September.

A summary of the actions you’ll need to take before arriving in Sheffield is on page 4.

More detailed information is given in Section 2 of this guide.

Checklist of pre-arrival actions

Before you come to register at the University, you need to complete all the actions

required set out in the pre-registration steps on pages 6-7. Please use the boxes provided

alongside each step to tick off the steps you have completed.

You also need to have:

• found somewhere to live

• checked whether you will need to bring your qualification certificates for

verification

• read the information on Choosing modules or units on pages 12 and 17-18

• read the information on Tuition fees, finance and payments on pages 10-11

• read the relevant University Regulations:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/calendar/regs

• asked the University for a formal letter of acceptance, if you need one

(Postgraduate Research students only).

Confirming your personal and course information

Once you have accepted an unconditional offer of a place, and before you arrive in

Sheffield, we will ask you to confirm the personal and course details we hold for you, and

supply additional information. An email from [email protected] will be

sent to you by 6 September, requesting that you confirm the information we hold for you

online, and provide you with instructions on how to

do this.

Please make sure that you have provided us with your correct email address and email:

[email protected]

before 2 September or

[email protected]

after 2 September

if you think it needs updating on our records.

You should also look out for the

Page 10: Essential Guide To September and October. · degree (BA, BSc, BEng, BMedSci, MBChB, BDS etc.) or ii. an undergraduate level Masters Degree (MMath, MEng, MChem etc.). POSTGRADUATE

pre-registration email and check your email inbox (and trash folders) regularly if you do

not receive it. Please email us at [email protected] if you have not received

it by 6 September.

You will need to check the

information we hold for you carefully, as any inaccuracy in this information could

significantly delay or prevent your registration on your course.

Meeting admissions requirements

Providing evidence of your previous

qualifications

Before you can register as a new student, you must provide evidence that you have met:

1) the University’s general entrance requirements and

2) the specific academic requirements

of your course or the conditions of

your offer.

This includes evidence that you meet the University’s minimum English Language

requirement.

All new students should read the Admissions Policy, which is available online for

Undergraduate applicants at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/undergraduate/

policies/admissions

and for Postgraduate students at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/postgraduate/info/

admissions

How do I know whether I need

to have my qualifications verified?

Not all students are required to have their qualifications verified during Intro Week.

Students whose qualifications and results have been supplied directly to the University by

an awarding body or through UCAS do not require verification. If you do need to bring

evidence of your qualifications, the Admissions Service will notify you in advance. If

you are a graduate of the University of Sheffield you will not need to bring your

certificates.

What you need to bring

If you need to have your qualifications verified during Intro Week, we require you to

present the following document(s):

• original certificates or transcripts of your academic qualification(s), including

those relating to your English Language level. These must clearly show the final result of

your qualification(s);

or

• certified copies of certificates or transcripts relating to your academic

qualification(s), including your English Language level. These must be authenticated by

an appropriate authority (e.g. your school or previous university) with an official stamp

and must also clearly show the final result of your qualification(s).

Page 11: Essential Guide To September and October. · degree (BA, BSc, BEng, BMedSci, MBChB, BDS etc.) or ii. an undergraduate level Masters Degree (MMath, MEng, MChem etc.). POSTGRADUATE

We do not accept faxed, unstamped, photocopied or scanned copies of these documents.

If your certificates or transcripts are in a language other than English, you must provide a

translation by a reputable translation agency and have it authenticated with an official

stamp from an appropriate authority.

Please be aware that failure to

provide formal evidence of the qualifications upon which your offer was based, if

requested, may prevent you from registering.

Qualifications verification service

during Intro Week

The Admissions Service will operate a Qualifications Verification Service from the

Elmfield building during Intro Week (see map on inside cover). If your qualifications

have not been verified before you are due to register, please bring your qualifications

documents to this service before attempting to register, as you may not be allowed to

register until you have done so.

Meeting immigration and visa requirements (overseas students)

The UK Government operates a Points Based System (PBS) of immigration. Tier 4 is the

immigration route for students from overseas (outside the European Economic Area).

Under this system, students need to score 40 points to secure a student visa: 30 points

will be awarded for a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) produced by the

University, and 10 points for maintenance and funds. Students on courses of more than

12 months must have sufficient funds to pay the first year tuition fee plus £7,200

(institutions outside London) to cover living expenses for the first year in the UK.

Information on the Points Based System is given at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/newstudents/

international/immigration

Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS)

Non-EU/EEA students coming to the UK for some Taught Masters programmes and

research areas will require ATAS clearance before applying for a student visa. More

information is available at:

www.shef.ac.uk/newstudents/

international/immigration/atas

The Home Office, which is the

part of the Government responsible for immigration, requires institutions to retain copies

of students’ passport and visa information. These copies will be taken upon your arrival

at the University (see Passport and Visa Scanning, page 21). In order to speed up the

process, it is helpful if you provide a scanned copy of your passport pages and your

visa/Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), if you already have one, before you arrive. You

will be contacted in early September with further instructions and you can find more

information at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/registration

In order to remain a registered student you must have a valid visa that permits study at

The University of Sheffield.

Tuition fees, finance and payments

Please follow the link relevant to you and read the information provided, carefully, before

completing your Pre-registration steps (see pages 6-7).

If you received an offer letter from us it will state the rate of fee payable for your

particular programme of study in 2013-2014. If you have not already done so, we

recommend that you check your fee in advance of arriving by using the Fees Look-up

tool available at:

Fees for future years of study will increase and you should budget for an increase of

between 5% and 8% each year (except for Home/EU Undergraduates). Overseas

undergraduates studying Medicine or Dentistry degrees will pay a higher fee for the

clinical years. For more information please see

www.sheffield.ac.uk/registration/

tuitionfees

and click on the relevant link for your particular category of study.

You may be entitled to receive a scholarship depending on your student category.

There are also alumni, sibling, spouse and academic merit scholarships available.

For more information about eligibility, please go to:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/undergraduate/

finance/help/bursaries

or:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/international

UK/EU Undergraduate students

Most UK/EU Undergraduates pay their fees with a tuition fee loan provided by the

Student Loans Company (SLC) following an application to Student Finance England

(SFE). For full details about applying to SFE and other equivalent authorities such as

Student Finance Wales, Student Finance NI, Student Awards Agency for Scotland, or

Student Finance Services European Team, please go to:

www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance.

If you are not applying to SFE for funding and you plan to pay tuition fees yourself, you

will be asked to provide additional information when completing the online Financial

Declaration which is one of the Pre-registration steps; this will enable us to assess and

confirm your fee status. More information is available on fee status at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/undergraduate/

finance/fee_status

Page 13: Essential Guide To September and October. · degree (BA, BSc, BEng, BMedSci, MBChB, BDS etc.) or ii. an undergraduate level Masters Degree (MMath, MEng, MChem etc.). POSTGRADUATE

If you are applying to SFE but cannot provide written notification from SFE in advance

or when you register or, if you are not applying to SFE and your fee status has not been

assessed, you will be given Temporary Registration for six weeks.

Sponsored students

If your studies are being sponsored by your employer, an external organisation or an

Embassy, you will need to upload or send a letter from your sponsor to the University as

one of your Pre-registration steps (see pages 6-7). If your fee is £10,000 or more and your

sponsor is new to the University, your sponsor will be subject to a credit check.

Fee status

The level of fee you will be charged depends on your fee status. Your fee status is mainly

determined by your residential history, nationality and personal circumstances.

Information on fee status is available at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/admissions/feestatus

Please be aware that the University

may change your fee status from home to overseas at any point during your studies if it

transpires that information you supplied during the admissions or registration process was

incomplete or incorrect. It is important to raise any query relating to your fee status in

advance of your arrival at the University (+44 (0)114 222 8030 or

[email protected]). Fee status is only changed (from overseas to home) part-way

through a course, in a small minority of cases and for a specific and limited list of reasons

(please see:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/admissions/

feestatus). This list of reasons does not include cases where Indefinite Leave to Remain is

granted after you have begun your course.

Temporary registration

If you are unable to pay your fees in advance of, or at, Registration, or you are unable to

provide a sponsor letter confirming who will be responsible for paying your tuition fees,

you may be given Temporary Registration. You will then be given three weeks in which

to satisfy these requirements (or six weeks if you are awaiting funding confirmation from

SFE).

Choosing modules (undergraduate) or units (postgraduate)

If your course allows you to choose some modules (undergraduate level) or units

(postgraduate level), it is important that you give careful thought to which modules or

units you will select. More information on the module/unit choice process is given in

Choosing Modules on pages 17-18.

Please make sure you do this preparation before Intro Week as it will help you be better

prepared and make an informed choice of modules. Advice will be provided by your

department or departments at the Introductory Academic Meeting(s) but the process of

confirming your modules or units will be much easier if you have considered the options

and your preferences in advance.

Postgraduate Research students are required to participate in the Doctoral Development

Programme and need to choose modules (units) in consultation with their supervisor. See

page 19 for more information.

Health information

Page 14: Essential Guide To September and October. · degree (BA, BSc, BEng, BMedSci, MBChB, BDS etc.) or ii. an undergraduate level Masters Degree (MMath, MEng, MChem etc.). POSTGRADUATE

All students need to provide basic

health information when they join the University to allow it to fulfill its duty of care

towards them. You will therefore be asked to supply some advance health information

online, before arriving in Sheffield, and you will be contacted via email by September

with instructions on how to supply this information.

This information will not be held against your student record and will not be available to

staff outside the University Health Service (UHS).

International students may also be

required to submit additional information

– please see the Essential Guide to University Life 2013.

Thereafter, students who live at a Sheffield term-time address will be entitled to register

with the UHS, please see information in the University Health Service section on page

25. Further information on the University Health Service can also be found at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/health

Support for disabled students

We welcome disabled students and are committed to effectively meeting any additional

support requirements you may have. The Disability and Dyslexia Support Service

(D&DSS) is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the academic support of

disabled students. When necessary, the service liaises with academic departments and

other University support services on behalf of individual students.

If you have a disability, it is important that you make contact with both the D&DSS and

your academic department as soon as possible in order to outline your support

requirements, so that we can ensure you are quickly given appropriate advice regarding

the support, equipment and facilities available to you here.

Your university membership card (UCard)

As a new student, you will receive a University membership card, known as a UCard.

The UCard carries your photograph and provides access to the University Library,

Information Commons, University residences and the Union of Students. You will also

need to use your UCard to borrow books from the Library and to use the printers and

photocopiers.

Your UCard will be ready to collect at Registration as long as you have provided us with

a scanned passport-sized photograph of your face. You will receive instructions on how

to do this via a pre-registration email sent out in August or early September.

Your computer account

All students are provided with a University of Sheffield computer account and a

University email address. You should activate your computer account before coming to

Sheffield to get a head start in the registration process and to be able to access the

Internet and University online services as soon as you arrive on campus. You will also

receive instructions on how to do this via a pre-registration email sent out in August or

early September.

Using your computer at University

If you are bringing your own computer to the University you must make sure that its

security features, including operating system security patches and anti-virus software, are

up to date before you connect your computer to the University network.

It can be expensive to bring your own printer to University due to high toner costs but

you are welcome to do so if you choose. However, due to the increased security on our

wireless network, wireless printers will not work on our network.

Smartphones and tablets by Apple, Android and Windows can easily connect to our

Choosing modules

Many students have the opportunity to choose some modules (undergraduate) or units

(postgraduate) as part of their programme of study. In advance of registering, you should

familiarise yourself fully with the regulations for your programme, as they set out the

extent of module or unit choice your programme allows. The programme regulations for

2013-14 are available at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/calendar/regs

Information about how to choose modules can also be accessed at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/registration

Additional information on the modules or units and make-up of your programme will be

given to you by your academic department(s) at your Introductory Academic Meeting(s).

You will receive advice on choosing modules, and you will be given a Module

(Undergraduate students) or Unit (Postgraduate Taught students) Form. Over the course

of Intro Week, you will use that form to agree your modules or units with your academic

department(s) and, if you are an undergraduate student with unrestricted module choice,

to indicate your selection of unrestricted modules. The selection of modules you list on

your Module or Unit Form, as agreed with your department(s), will then be entered on to

your student record:

• at the Undergraduate Unrestricted Module Enrolment Event at the Octagon Centre

if you are an undergraduate student and you select unrestricted modules or;

• at the Registration Event, if your undergraduate programme does not contain

unrestricted modules, or you are a Postgraduate Taught student.

Taking this action in advance will

give you a good idea of the modules you can sign up for when you attend your

Introductory Academic Meeting(s) in your academic department(s) in Intro Week. Please

be aware that the modules you wish to take can only be confirmed once you have

attended the meeting(s) with your academic department(s) and, if you are an

undergraduate student with unrestricted module choice, the Undergraduate Unrestricted

Module Enrolment Event.

Postgraduate Research students should refer to the information on DDP units on page 19.

Undergraduate students

Most undergraduate students can select modules as part of their programme. In addition

to your core modules, which are modules you are required to take as part of your

programme, you may be able to choose approved modules (modules typically offered by

the department or departments which run your programme) as well as unrestricted

modules (modules outside of your programme of study and offered by other

departments).

In advance of your Introductory Academic Meeting, you should:

• check the regulations for your programme of study

Page 21: Essential Guide To September and October. · degree (BA, BSc, BEng, BMedSci, MBChB, BDS etc.) or ii. an undergraduate level Masters Degree (MMath, MEng, MChem etc.). POSTGRADUATE

• read the descriptions of the modules you are entitled to choose and may be

interested in studying

• make a note of the modules you are particularly interested in and bring it with you

to your Introductory Academic Meeting(s) and Unrestricted Module Enrolment Event, if

you will choosing unrestricted modules.

You should still attend your Introductory Academic Meeting if you are taking a course

which has no or very limited module choice, such as Law or Medicine, for information

and advice on your programme and the Department.

If you are entering the University at Level Two, you must contact your academic

department to make separate arrangements for selecting your modules. You will not be

able to complete your registration process until your department(s) has approved your

choice of modules and your Module Form has been fully endorsed.

Please contact the Registration Helpline,

tel +44 (0)114 222 1288 or email [email protected] if you are unable to

access a computer and require a hard copy of the module information.

See page 21 for further information about module enrolment.

Postgraduate students – Taught

You will be advised on any choice of units at an Introductory Academic Meeting with

your academic department. A full year’s curriculum must be approved by your

department and endorsed on your Unit Form before you can attend your Registration

event. If you will be following a part-time course, Registry Services

([email protected]) will email you to offer you the opportunity to register,

remotely, online.

Postgraduate students – Research

Preparing for Doctoral Development Programme (DDP) Unit Choices/training

You are required to participate in the DDP and will need to choose modules/training in

consultation with your supervisors. The DDP will provide you with a range of skills and

competency-based training opportunities orientated both towards your specific

programme of study and towards future employment.

On arrival at the University, you will need to collect your copy of the Code of Practice

for Research Degree Programmes from your academic department. The Code of Practice

will explain the process you need to follow to complete the DDP.

Detailed information on the DDP can also be found on the DDP Portal:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/ris/pgr/ddpportal

Changes to module information

University courses are continually reviewed and revised. There may be changes to the

modules on offer between the date you view them on the webpages and the time you

complete your module enrolment during Intro Week.

Registration

The Intro Week registration process is set out on pages 14-15. All new students must

attend the final Registration Event in person. You will formally register with

the University with the guidance of dedicated staff.

If your programme does not begin

Page 22: Essential Guide To September and October. · degree (BA, BSc, BEng, BMedSci, MBChB, BDS etc.) or ii. an undergraduate level Masters Degree (MMath, MEng, MChem etc.). POSTGRADUATE

in September/October 2013–14

If you are to begin your studies at any other time than at the start of the 2013–14

academic year (September 2013), you can ignore the following instructions as you will be

sent separate information about the registration arrangements which apply to you; upon

your arrival at the University, you will need to visit the Registry Services office which is

located on Level 6 of the Students' Union Building, in order to register.

The essential registration steps:

1. Welcome to the University Meeting (Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught

Students) or Information Session for new Research Students (Postgraduate Research

Students)

2. Introductory Academic Meetings with your Academic Department

3. Undergraduate Unrestricted Module Enrolment Event (if your programme allows

you to choose unrestricted modules)

4. Verification of Qualifications (see Verification of qualifications, page 21) 5. Passport and Visa Scanning (non-EEA students only)

6. The Registration Event

7. University Health Registration.

Welcome to the University –

meeting for new students

We hold a series of Welcome Meetings for new students in Intro Week (see the

Registration Timetable in the inside back cover of this guide). They will outline the many

opportunities available for your personal and academic development. They will also

explain how the Union of Students operates and give you an insight into the many social

and sport activities on offer.

Introductory academic meetings

Undergraduate students

At your Introductory Academic Meeting, you will be given your personal Module Form

and you will make your choice of approved modules. You may also be given important

information about other introductory events and tutorial or laboratory classes. These

Introductory Academic Meetings are intended to help you to start your studies

effectively.

It is essential that you attend this meeting (or meetings, if you are taking a dual degree

programme).

If your programme allows unrestricted module choice (modules offered by departments

other than your own), you will need to attend the Undergraduate Unrestricted Module

Enrolment Event and you should read the information on Undergraduate Unrestricted

Module Enrolment on page 21.

Postgraduate students – Taught

Academic departments hold Introductory Academic Meetings for students undertaking

postgraduate taught programmes during Intro Week. It is essential that you attend your

meeting so that you can become familiar with the academic arrangements in this

University, receive advice on the content of your year of study and complete your unit

Page 23: Essential Guide To September and October. · degree (BA, BSc, BEng, BMedSci, MBChB, BDS etc.) or ii. an undergraduate level Masters Degree (MMath, MEng, MChem etc.). POSTGRADUATE

enrolment. Please contact your department before coming to Sheffield if you have not

received details of the date, time and place for your meeting.

Postgraduate Taught students

should:

• NOT attend the Undergraduate Unrestricted Module Enrolment Event in the

Octagon Centre during Intro Week,

• have their choice of units approved by their department before attending

Registration.

A full-time student on a Master’s degree programme must take 180 credits, 120 credits

on a Diploma programme and 60 credits on a Certificate programme. You will not be

able to register for less than a full year’s credit load (usually 180 credits) if you are going

to study full-time. It is recognised that some choices will be provisional and changes

can be made subsequently, if necessary, during the Add/Drop periods at the beginning of

each Semester.

Postgraduate students – Research

Academic departments hold Introductory Academic Meetings for new research students

during Intro Week or Week One of the academic session. In addition, all new research

students are expected to attend a University-wide Information Session for New Research

Students, which will take place at 9.30am on Tuesday 1 October in the Octagon Centre.

You will receive advice about the DDP.

Following this Information Session, you should meet with your supervisor to discuss

your training needs and DDP unit choices; this involves undertaking a Training Needs

Analysis with your supervisor (or other appropriate person) to enable you to choose your

units accordingly.

Details on the DDP registration process can be found at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/ris/pgr/ddpportal

Short-term students

Visiting students

You will need to attend the Welcome Meeting in the Octagon Centre on Monday 23

September at 3pm.

Additionally, your host academic department will give you details of any other meetings

you need to attend. Please contact your department if you have not received information

from them before

you arrive.

Study Abroad Programme and Erasmus students

Please read the Study Abroad and Erasmus Handbook which will be sent to you

separately. Study Abroad and Erasmus students are also invited to attend the Welcome

Meeting in the Octagon Centre on Monday 23 September at 3pm.

Undergraduate unrestricted

module enrolment

Undergraduate and visiting

students

After you have attended an Introductory Academic Meeting and collected your personal

Module Form, new undergraduates and some visiting students may need to attend the

Undergraduate Unrestricted Module Enrolment Event in the Octagon Centre (see

Page 24: Essential Guide To September and October. · degree (BA, BSc, BEng, BMedSci, MBChB, BDS etc.) or ii. an undergraduate level Masters Degree (MMath, MEng, MChem etc.). POSTGRADUATE

Registration Timetable) in order to choose unrestricted modules before they can finally

register. Representatives of academic departments will be available at the event to advise

you on your choice and to sign you up for modules. Faculty Officers will also be present

to offer further guidance and advice.

Verification of qualifications

Before you are able to formally register at the Registration Event, the University must

assure itself that you possess the qualifications which form the basis of your admission

into the University.

For many UK undergraduate students, this takes place automatically as your results are

forwarded to us by the awarding bodies through UCAS. However, for many other

students, particularly students taking qualifications other than A levels and for students

beginning a postgraduate programme, the process is different. You need to bring your

original qualification certificates to the Verification of Qualifications Service which is

based in the Elmfield Building (See the map on the inside cover). Please read Meeting

Admissions Requirements on page 9 for more information. If you need to bring your

qualification certificates, please ensure you bring those at the time allocated In the

Registration Timetable (see the inside back cover of this booklet).

Passport and visa scanning

(overseas students)

The Home Office requires that higher education institutions retain a copy of the passport

and visa information for all overseas (non-EEA) students.

Before you can register, and before attending the Registration Event, all overseas students

are required to attend the Passport and Visa Scanning event in the Elmfield Building so

that their original documents can be verified. Please come at the time given in the

Registration Timetable (see the Registration Timetable in the Inside back cover of this

booklet). Uploading a copy of the personal details pages of your passport and your visa

(once you have entered the UK) online and in advance of arriving at the University will

speed up the verification process. See Meeting immigration and visa requirements on

page 10 for further information.

Overseas students must bring

their passport and visa to be scanned in advance of the Registration Event. The

University will retain copies of these documents to satisfy UK immigration requirements.

Overseas students who do not have their passport and visa at the Registration Event will

not be permitted to register. The study visa must show the University of Sheffield

reference number and students whose visa does not show this will not be permitted to

register. You can get your documents scanned in advance of registering at the Elmfield

Building on Thursday 19 September (1pm–5pm ) or on Friday 20 September (9am–5pm)

or during Intro Week at the time allocated on the Registration Timetable (see the inside

back cover of this booklet). Further information about immigration requirements is

available at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/newstudents/

international/immigration

If you have not arranged payment of your tuition fees in advance, you will be asked to do

this at the Registration Event. Please see Tuition fees, finance and payments (page 10) for

more information.

Temporary registration

If you have not provided complete financial information or do not begin to pay fees for

which you are responsible, you may be granted temporary registration for a limited

period; in that case, you will be informed of what you need to do to become fully

registered. You will be expected to take action promptly and to keep Registry Services

informed of your position.

If you miss your registration event

You must attend registration at your scheduled time. The Registration Timetable helps us

to keep queues to a minimum if you attend when expected. If you fail to do so, please do

not come at another time, as it may not be possible to register you then. Instead, please

come to the Late Registration Event which will be held on Tuesday 1 October to

Thursday 3 October in the Information Commons. More information will be available at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/newstudents/

registration/late-arrivals

Overseas students who do not register during the main registration period will be reported

to the UK Home Office, which may affect their immigration status.
