From the moment I decided to study science to now I have grown and polished my capacity to think and interpret new knowledge. The summer experience I had at the Bridging component of the RISE program allowed me to grow as a future professional and explore the world intellectually. I learned how to do a full scientific research proposal, do formal lab work working with tools current professionals are using. I am ecstatic I chose the path to become a scientist and do my part in the expansion of society. From a young age I have been interested in the science department particularly Biology. As I grew I decided to pursue a career in the subject I always wondered about. The ability to be part of a new discovery thrills me and motivates me to work harder every day to achieve that vision. With the Vision set I had to set myself goals and the summer with RISE was just what I needed to open my mind. I had never worked formally in a lab environment and it was a very intriguing experience. I was able to use the tools and apply the techniques used in the field this very moment. This has already given me an advantage over most young adults in my generation, since many still do not know what a micro-‐pipet is and how it works. I also learned how to develop and present a formal scientific research proposal. With this, I have already attained the basic tools that are necessary to become a successful professional. My experience at the summer Bridging component was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I was able to meet fellow students with the same interests in the science department. All of us with different career goals but yet almost all of us had the same way of thinking. We all united as a family and in the future help each other strive and be successful. They will help me with anything I need and I would do the same for them. Deciding to become a scientist was one of the best decisions I have made. I am able to learn new material on the subject that interests me the most and do my part in finding new scientific discoveries. I am able to learn and develop new strategies to effectively finish the job and be able to present my discovery with colleagues that are as eager as I am. With this, I am also able to meet new people and discuss all of the progress we have done.
