PRESCHOOL NEWS Preschool 3

As we are only just back at school, it is hard to believe it is only 5 more weeks until our winter holidays, so this time is going to be very busy for us in preschool. We will start working on our holiday program starting next week and will

be sending more details home to you in the next week or so.

This week in the jungle we started talking about ‘our bodies’. We learned all the basic parts of our bodies, we learned some new cool songs, and even read amazing stories about our bodies. We have also added letter L, F, B to our list of letters. We encourage you to practice with your children. Here is the link for the Jolly Phonics program we are using in class:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCjJYB07aSU.

We are so pleased to see the children’s progress in learning the alphabet letters. In Math we started working with comparing groups and counting from 0 to 20! Practice with your children. We have a cool song we have been singing about counting 0 to 20, it is called ‘The Number Rock’, and is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4sWyckBaOM.

Several parents have been asking for the lyrics to the songs we sing in class. We are going to start adding links to our emails so you can check out the songs with your children. If you show your child the video they may not recognize it, but we are sure they will recognize the words. So have fun with your bundles of joy and sing and dance together. Allow them to be the teacher to teach you the songs they know.

Here are a few of the other songs we have been learning so far this year. There are so many more!

Lastly, we would like to thank the families who have been sending in the recycling to our class. We are still in need of things. We are looking for anything with English print and old things you might want to throw away (clothes, figures, toys, glasses, flowers, shoes, books etc). Nothing has to be new, but we want to give the children the chance to explore many different things.

We would also like to remind you that children must not arrive before 7:45 am and should arrive before 8:15 am.

Preschool 1 and Preschool 2

Welcome back! We hope you all had a good short break. It was nice to hear from some parents that children were looking forward to coming back to school. We are looking forward to the coming term with many things planned. The theme of this month is “Healthy Living”. The objective of this preschool theme is to teach children how important nutrition

and good habits are in helping to keep them healthy. They will learn about the importance of healthy eating, exercise, sleep, and hygiene. We have started our week celebrating Eva’s birthday. It is the very first birthday we celebrated this school year. Happy birthday Eva!

Preschool 1

This week we learned about healthy and unhealthy food. We read ‘A Very Hungry Caterpillar’ book, which helped to develop language skills and learn from mistakes that the caterpillar made. Later we made our own caterpillar out of play dough in art. During center time we played a game called ‘cinema’ where we pretended that we were at the cinema holding a cup full of popcorn. It was so much fun!

Preschool 2

We discovered lots of interesting information about healthy and junk food. We pretended we were in the supermarket trying to fill a trolley with healthy food by cutting the pictures and pasting them.

In math we sorted fruits and vegetables into different baskets and played an online sorting food game. If you would like to

practice more here is the link.

In literacy we learned the letter ‘I’ and reviewed previous letters(S, A, T, P).

The most interesting activity was cooking fruit salad. We had a chance to cut fruit into small pieces using a safety knife with the help of Ms Kesha. Later we invited PS1 to share food and ate it all together. It was yummy! Another interesting

thing is that we had a visitor from the kitchen Mr Duishon, the cook, who explained the importance of healthy food and encouraged children to eat the food they cook.

Next Week

We will be learning ‘fitness or exercise’ as part of Healthy

Living. We will be doing lots of physical activities exercising

our body inside and outside. We will focus on developing

gross motor skills and understanding the importance of exercise to stay healthy. You might have very tired children after school next week!

PS2: EVA for trying hard to communicate her needs in English and improving her language skills.

PS1: AIZZA for being an enthusiastic learner in all learning areas.
