    Thedecisiontomovetoaninternalwringassessment,

    replacingtheEducaonal Records Bureau(ERB)wringassessment,whichISMhasdoneformanyyears,was

    madebytheISMLeadershipteaminAugust,andwas

    subsequentlyapprovedbytheBoardofTrustees.Our

    aiminsendinghomethewringsampleistoensurethat

    parentshaveaclearsenseofhowtheirchildrens

    wrienlanguageskillsaredeveloping.Theassessment

    processalsoallowsteachersatthesegradelevelsto

    moderatetheirstudentsworkbycomparingdifferent

    samples.Ourgoalhereistoensurealignmentacross

    classroomsintermsofhowchildrenswringskillsare

    measuredaccordingtodefinedcriteria.Lastly,the

    wringsamples,oncecompleted,aresharedwiththe

    studentsandindividualconferenceswitheachchild

    guaranteethatstudentsareincludedinthisassessment

    process.Theirrefleconsontheirstrengthsandareasto

    improve,areasignificantcomponentofthesampleand

    addanelementtotheassessmentthatwasnotpossible

    previously.Anotherposiveinmovingtoaninternal

    wringassessmentincludesthefactthat,asaschool,we

    arenotforcedtowaitthreemonthsfortheresults.

    Furthermore,thereisverylilepressure,ifany,on

    childrenincomplengthewringassessment.Our

    intenonisnottoimplementthemastestsorwrienexaminaons.Planning,draing,edingand

    conferencingareallelementsofourclassroom

    instruconalpraccesinteachingandlearninglanguage,

    andtheseoccuronaweeklybasis.Thewring

    assessments,whichwillbecompletedoverthenext

    weeks,alignwiththephilosophyofassessmentfor(and

    notof)learning.

    ThismorningweheldourthirdquarterElementaryAssembly,wherewehadtheopportunitytowelcomethenew

    studentswhohavestartedatISMthissemesterandalsocelebratethevariousaspectsofourElementarySchool

    community.DuringtheassemblywewerefortunatetoviewavideowhichhadbeenputtogetherbyourPE

    DepartmentinpreparaonforSportsDay(February15th). Thevideoshowcasedallthedifferentmembersofour

    communitydancingtotheSportsDayopeningsong(TheConnentalDri!)thisincludedbusdrivers,students,securitypersonnel,teachers,canteenstaff,parents,cleaners,busmothersandadministraonstaff.Ifthereisa

    characteriscincommonwhichconnectsalltheadults,itistheirgenuinedesiretoputstudentsfirstatISM. If

    thereisacommonatudethatisprevalentamongstall,itistomakeISMthebestlearningenvironmentpossible

    whilesllhavingasmileonourfacesandmakingthisaplacethatbothstudentsandadultswanttocometo

    everydayoftheweek.

    Themorewecanrecognizeandcelebratethediversityofourcommunity,themoreweareholdingtruetowhatit

    reallymeanstobethatlearningcommunityasmenonedinourmission.Themorewecanmodelrespect,

    conneconandcollaboraonbetweenalltheadultsonourcampus,theeasieritisforourstudentstounderstand

    whatitmeanstobeacommunity.

    blogs. Ourfocusisunderstandingthatphysicalacvityprovides

    opportuniesforhealth,enjoyment,selfexpression,challengeand

    socialinteraconaswellbuildingasenseofcommunityandschool

    spiritforteachers,studentsandtheirfamilies.

    Wewouldliketwoparentspergradeleveltotakephotographson

    SportsdaytobeusedintheClosingCeremonyslideshows.If

    Weencouragestudentstodisplaygoodsportsmanship.Asparents

    Access and parking within the campus are important security

    andsafetyissues. ForthewellbeingofallmembersoftheISM

    community,thoseenteringtheschoolcampusarerequestedto

    followthe

    procedures

    outlined

    below.

    Vehicular Access

    Duringdropoffandpickup mes,vehiclesmayenter through

    Gates2and3. ThoseenteringthroughGate2shouldproceedto

    thedropoffareaand,oncethestudenthasalightedorboarded,

    they should exit viaGate 1. Those vehicles entering through

    Gate 3must turn into the covered parking area and use the

    designateddropoffareas. AllvehiclesmustexitthroughGate1.

    Alternavely,vehiclesenteringthroughGate3maypark in the

    covered car park. The spaces reserved for parentdriven cars

    should only be used by those vehicles which are driven by

    parentsthemselves. Vehiclesinwhichparentsaretraveling,but

    which are driven by a driver, should not use these spaces.Rather,theyshouldparkelsewhereinthecoveredparkormake

    useoftheoutsidespacesnexttothepowercenter.

    Pleasenote thatGate2mayonlybeusedbymembersof the

    ISM community in possession of a valid ISM ID and vehicles

    displayingavalidISMvehiclescker.

    Family/companydrivers should not remainwithin school once

    theyhavedeliveredastudent. Theyshouldexittheschooland

    returnnosoonerthan1:45intheaernoonforpickup.

    VisitorstoISMmayonlyenterthroughGate3. Thereisanarea

    forshortstayvisitorsparkingnearGate1.

    The Pedestrian Gate

    Locaon

    Thepedestriangate is located in theperimeter fencemidway

    betweenGate1andGate2. Thereisapavedareabetweenthe

    roadandtheperimeterfence,allowingeasyaccesstothegate.

    The pedestrian gate is solely for the entry ofmembersof the

    ISMCommunityatthebeginningoftheschoolday. Itwillonly

    beopenbetween7:00and7:45(8:00to8:45onWednesdays).

    Duetoparkingrestriconsandintheinterestsofsecurityitwill

    notbeopen intheaernoonforpickups. Duringthe meit is

    open, itwillbeunder the supervisionofmembers of the ISM

    GuardForce.

    DropoffProcedure

    Drivers should stop adjacent to the paved area and students

    should alight from the right side of their vehicle. The driver

    should then move off, clearing the space for other vehicles

    droppingoffstudents. Undernocircumstancesshouldastudent

    bedroppedofffromtheoutside lane. This isdangerousasthe

    studentwouldneedtowalkacrossthefrontofanothervehicle.

    Drivers are reminded that traffic regulaons forbidparking on

    the roads around ISM. Therefore, vehicles should only be

    stopping for the brief ne it takes for a student to alight.

    Driversmustnotwaitforanybodytoreturntothevehicle.

    CarSckers

    Thecarsckersfortheschoolyear2012/13areavailablefromthesecurityoffice.

    Each ISM family will be issued one vehicle scker free of

    charge. Any addional sckers will be issued following

    paymentofPhp100.00tothecashiersoffice.

    Inordertofacilitatetheeasyrecognionofauthorizedcarsat

    thegates,thesckersshouldbeaffixedtothetoprightcorner

    of thewindshield. Further to this,old ISM sckers issued in

    previousyearsshouldberemoved.

    IDCards

    IDcardsshouldbewornatall meswhileoncampus. Ifyou

    havenotbeenissuedanIDcard,oryouhavelostit,youshouldobtainoneby vising the securityofficeand compleng the

    appropriateapplicaonform.

    Vehiclechecks

    Thepracceof inspecngvehicleswill connue. Duringoff

    peakhoursallvehicleswillbecheckedbeforetheyareallowed

    toenterthecampus. Duringpeakhours(dropoffandpickup

    mes), all vehicles without valid sckers and randomly

    selected vehicles with sckers will be asked to undergo an

    examinaon.

    Whetheranexaminaon isconductedornot, it is important

    thatthe

    security

    sta

    ffatthe

    gates

    are

    able

    toiden

    fytheoccupantsofvehiclesenteringthecampus;thereforeIDsmust

    be clearlydisplayed. Vehicleswith ntedwindowsmust roll

    down windows to allow a clear view of the interior of the

    vehicle.

    Drivers,HelpersandBodyguards

    Drivers, helpers and bodyguards should not be waing on

    campus for students throughout the school day. Aer

    droppingoffstudentstheyshouldexittheschoolgroundsand

    notreturnmorethan30minutesbeforedismissal me. Those

    who repeatedly fail to complywith the regulaonwill have

    theiraccessprivilegesuspended.

    Only those vehicles carrying parents or other people withbusinesswithin the schoolwill be allowed to return to the

    campusbefore1:45p.m.

    Therearedesignatedareasforunaccompanieddrivers,yayas,

    helpersandsecurityescortstowaitforparentsandstudents.

    Unlessspecificallyauthorized,theymaynotenteranyother

    area.Intheinterestofsecurity,andtopreventcongesonat

    thepedestrianentrancestothecoveredparkingarea,parents

    are requested to emphasize to their employees the

    importance of cooperang with the security staff and

    remainingintheappropriateareas.

    TerminaonofEmployment

    In the event of the terminaon of service of a family

    employee, parents are asked to secure the former

    employees ISM IDcardandreturn ittotheSecurityoffice.

    Ifthisisnotpossible,itisimportanttattheSecurityOfficeis

    sllinformedofthechangeofcircumstances.

    Finally, I would like to thank all members of the ISM

    communityfortheircooperaoninhelpingusmaintainISM

    asasafeandsecureenvironmentforourchildren.

    Firearms

    Allmembersofthe ISMcommunityareremindedthat it is

    strictly forbidden for firearms to be brought onto the

    campus. This includes concealed weapons carried by

    bodyguardsforcloseprotecon.Anypersonarrivingatthe

    school with a firearm should inform the gate guard and

    arrangementswillbemadefortheweapontobesafelyand

    securelystoredduringthevisitorsstay.

    Securitystaffdirecons

    Oursecurityteamisendeavoringtomaketheschoolassafe

    and secureanenvironmentaspossible forallmembersof

    ourcommunity. Weasthateverybodycooperatewithusin

    this important task. In parcular, all those entering our

    campusarerequestedtocomplywithanydirecongivento

    them bymembers of our guard force. In the event that

    anyoneisunclearastothepurposeofsuchinstruconsthey

    canseekclarificaonsfromthesecurityoffice. Pleasenote

    that it is the parents responsibility to advise their staff

    accordingly.

    Withdrawal Procedure for Students Leaving ISM

    ForthosestudentswhowillbewithdrawingfromInterna

    onalSchoolManilathisyear,thefollowingprocedureap

    Parents are obliged to officially inform the School through a

    WITHDRAWAL NOTIFICATION FORM, before the second

    Friday of May, if their children will not be returning to ISM.

    Failure to do so will lead to a deducon of US$1,000 from

    the Facilies Upgrade Deposit (FUD), in compensaon for

    having held a space for the child and thus prevenng the

    School from offering that space to another child prior to the

    summer holiday break.

    Notethatschooltranscriptsandrecordswillbeavailable

    from the parcular school office approximately fieen

    workingdaysaer thechilds lastdayofaendanceat

    ISM. Please coordinate directly with the parcular

    School Office if you require other arrangements.

    STEP2: Ifrequired,andwhencompleted,theStudent Clear

    ance Slipmustbe taken to theCashiersOffice. Onlyaer

    theCashierhasreceivedandsignedthecompletedclearance

    formwillthechildstranscriptorschoolrecordsbereleased
