FACT SHEET -ERUPT (IRE) Bred and raced by The Niarchos family, whose patriarch, multi billionaire Stavros

Narchos built one of the world’s largest shipping fleets from 1952. In racing, he owned chef de race sire Nureyev and acquired Haras Fresnaye le Buffard from Marcel Boussac. After his passing in 1996, his daughter Maria has guided operations as a owner/breeder stable,

breeding and racing more than 143 Gr.1 Winners, amongst them the great mare Miesque and her Champion Sire son, Kingmambo. They also bred and raced successful sires Machiavellian,

Spinning World, Hector Protector, Hernando, L’Emigrand, Persepolis, Mendez and many others. In South Africa they retained substantial stake in Judpot (AP Indy-Miesque) and are breeders of Mogok (Storm Cat -Coup de Folie) who has sired 3 G1W. They maintain 80

mares, half in Kentucky and half in France, and a few mares in South Africa. From their highly selective breeding policies, they have bred champions for 5 decades.

The Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris (Gr.1) won by Erupt, was first run in 1863. Over the years it a breed shaping race won by champion sires such as – Ajax (1904), Spearmint (1906), Nearco (1938), Pharis (1939), Vieux Manoir (1950), Sicambre (1951), Charlottesville

A Stallion Producing Female Line : The FANFRELUCHE family is known for producing

great stallions with four cornerstone Champion Sires coming from her : FLYING SPUR (Champion Sire Australia, sired 99 SW of $135m), ENCOSTA DE LAGO (Champion sire Australia, sired 82 SW of $125m), HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR (Ireland, Sired 71 SW so far,

$87m) and LODE (Champion Sire Argentina, sired 77 SW).

From a great Foundation Mare has developed highly selective policies to produce this family. FANFRELUCHE (1967), by Northern Dancer, won 11 of 21 starts in two season, Champion and 2 and 3, inc 9 Stakes races from 6f to 12f. Tough, sound, genuine, consistent,

with speed at 2 and the ability to stretch to 12f at 3 and defeat colts in the Derby in Canada. Yet she produced 18 foals, 14 of them winners and 5 major SW, and founded a dynasty, her

daughters and grandaughters leading to ERUPT being by a succession of champion racehorses that became champion sires.

Her daughter GRAND LUXE (by champion Sire Ivor), won 10 of her 25 starts , inc three SW and produced 16 foals, of which 3 were SW, and descend 8 Gr.1 winners inc Flying Spur and

Encosta de Lago. In 1981 Grand Luxe was mated to Spectacular Bid (26 wins in 30 starts inc 14 Gr.1 wins). Nature pulled the result back and the foal SALVORA, bought by Stavros

Niarchos, made 8 starts for only 1 win ! But Salvora then produced 15 foals, 8 were winners and 50% were SW, inc two outstanding fillies Aube Indienne (27 starts, won the Yellow Ribbon Inv Gr.1) and MARE NOSTRUM, 4th top filly of her year in France, Gr.1 placed and
