Worshipping our tools at Ayudha Puja

Ayudha Puja is a Hindu tradition whose past dates

to hundreds of years. This is also known as Astra

Puja and employees worship various tools, objects

and machinery they use, everyday. It creates a

relatisation amongst us that work is an offering to

God, motivating us to work dedicatedly and put in

our best efforts.

At ERL, we make it a point that this is a celebration

that will be grand in scale and also bring together

employees from various departments. The entire

organisation bonds together and invokes the

Almighty's blessings for a bright and prosperous

future.

This year, we celebrated Ayudha Puja on 22nd

October. Celebrations were initiated at and our

Arakere factory, Bangalore at 8.15 a.m. A grand

puja was performed here followed by pujas at the

Bangalore office, Hosur and Harohalli factories.

This is believed to bring in prosperity. The program

at the Hosur plant started at 8.45 a.m. The

program had components like sports prize

distribution, Ganapathy Puja, Puja at cash rooms

and so on. After this, delicious prasadam was

distributed.

ERL Switchcraft Factory welcomes

new Head-Manufacturing

It's always a great pleasure to welcome on board

new members to the ERL family. Mr. Suman

Bardhan has joined us as Head-Manufacturing at

the ERL Switchcraft Factory, Harohalli Unit,

Bangalore. He has had an illustrious career. He

started his career in Ashok Leyland as a graduate

trainee and over 11 years he grew up to the level

of Manager for the Engine Machine Shop. He

served as an auditor and implemented "Quality

Management Standards of TS 16949 . He was

also a certified auditor for QS 9000 and ISO

14001. He moved to ABB in May 2008, as

Manager – Operations Excellence .

Brilliant at his studies he passed his B.E-

Mechanical Engineering with distinction from the

Bangalore University and pursued his - MS,

Engineering Management from BITS Pilani and

secured the Second Rank. He followed this up with

a MBA (Operations Management) from IGNOU.

He has 15 years of experience in the industry and

his areas of specialization are manufacturing

For the past 4 years, he has worked extensively as

a guide, specialist and implementer in leading a

diverse cross-section of people not only in India,

but across other countries like South Africa,

Singapore, Italy and Egypt.

We wish him all the very best!

development, business development, strategic

planning.

He completed his B.E. in Electrical Engineering

from the prestigious Cusrow Wadia Institute of

Technology, Pune, followed by an M.B.A in

International Marketing from the University of

Belgium – Jaro University. He also garnered IT

skills in areas like ERP, SAP and so on.

He started his career as a Trainee Production &

Planning Engineer at Crompton Greaves,

L.T.C.G. Division, Nasik. Following this stint, he

moved to Telemecanique & Controls Ltd where he

worked as a Sales Engineer. His job

responsibilities included sales of Switchgear,

development of OEM, identifying new customers

and securing orders for complete switchgear

packages. He was very successful here.

Mr. Atul then moved up the ladder and became

Area Sales Manager at AVK-SEG Ltd and was into

the sales and marketing of various products like

Gensets L.V from 15 – 2000 KVA, Alternators,

Power System Protection Relays and more. His last

assignment before joining us was with C & S

Electric Ltd, Pune where he was National Product

Head. His responsibilities included business

development, monitoring, customer care and so

on.

We are happy to once more welcome Mr.Atul

Aserkar aboard and wish him all the very best!

Our Customer Support Team is happy to warmly

welcome onboard its newest team member, Arturo

Lopez. He is an accomplished person and an

Electronics and Communications Engineering

Graduate from Instituto Politécnico Nacional

Campus ESIME Zacatenco. His role will be to

provide personalized support for our customers

and representatives in Mexico. He has wonderful

communication skills and is fluent in Spanish and

ERL makes a mark at the CEPSI-2012 Exhibition!

The 19th Edition of the CEPSI-2012 Exhibition

cum Conference was officially opened by the

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of

Indonesia, H.E. Ir. Jero Wacik. This is focused on

the Electric Power Supply Industry and has become

one of the premier events in Asia not just within its

own industry but throughout the Asian business

community.

The theme was, “Enhancing and Securing Clean

Technology Investment for Sustainable Electric

Power Industry Development”. It was held for

three days from 15th to 17th October, 2012 at the

Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre, Bali. The

visitors’ profile included Architects, Consultants

,Company Owners, Consultants and Engineers,

Project Developers, Construction Companies,

Contractors, Environment Agencies, Facility

Managers, Directors, Government Ministries,

Energy Departments and Agencies, Government

Personnel, Importers, Distributors and Agents,

Independent Power Producers, Industrial

Cogenerator & Self Generator Manufacturers,

Marketing & Sales Personnel, Original Equipment

Manufacturers (OEMs) and others.

CEPSI has played a vital role in the development of

the electricity industry in the region. Member

countries are appointed to host this prestigious

event on a rotational basis.

At ERL, we felt CEPSI would be a wonderful

opportunity to showcase our products & solutions.

We had booked a 20 Sq.m pre-fabricated stall

and displayed Relays, Recorders, Ring Main Unit,

Intelligent Solid Insulated Switchgear, Intelligent

Transformer Monitoring System, Merging Unit and

so on.

Visitors were very enthusiastic to know more about

our products & solutions. The most popular

amongst them were our Relays, Recorders and

Merging Unit. We received a lot of leads and the

event helped us create a lot of product awareness.

ERL actively participates in Fall Trade Shows

At ERL, we have had quite a whirlwind of activities

in the recent past. In October the ERLPhase team

exhibited at the Western Protective Relay

Conference at Spokane, Washington. We had a

good response from the audience who wanted to

know more about what we could offer them. René

Midence, our Director of Technical Services

presented the paper on "Sub-Harmonic Protection

Application for Interconnection of Series

Compensated Lines and Wind Farms”. Our

ERLPhase suite was a big draw and there were

many visitors who evinced keen interest in the S-

PRO Sub-Harmonic protection relay.

In November, our team exhibited at the Minnesota

Power Systems Conference (MIPSYCON) and

René Midence presented the paper "Calculating

the Loadability of Distance Relays". This was a

regional show, we had a busy booth with more

than 650 participants attending.

Following the MIPSYCON show, ERLPhase held a

one day TESLA Users Group meeting on

November 8th in Minneapolis. This was a platform

for our customers to gather to learn and share their

experiences using our products in the field. The

group shared experiences about specific settings

and record analysis, discussed expanding

TESLA's use within present applications, and

exchanged application knowledge about specific

applications including generating stations and

wind farms. We also took the opportunity share

our software plans and introduce new products

such as TESLA I/O unit and the iTMU Intelligent

Transformer Management Unit.

We heartily thank all those who participated in this

Users Group meeting. We intend to make this a

regular affair by organizing it at various periods of

the year at locations convenient for customers.

These shows have helped build a better bond

between us and our customers. They have also

helped disseminate information on our products

and the possibilities.

TPM Implementation to keep

Machines buzzing at ERL Switchcraft – Harohalli!

A regular maintenance schedule can do wonders

for performance and increase the life and

productivity of machines. With this in view, the ERL

Switchcraft Factory at Bangalore has introduced

the TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) initiative

for all machines.

The factory boasts of sophisticated and modern

German made machines like laser welding, laser

cutting, punching and bending machines. This

initiative will bring about a better machine uptime.

The key goal is to bring focus on maintenance as a

necessary and imperative part of the business and

to minimize emergency and unscheduled

maintenance.

The implementation started with a basic TPM

training program for all key employees. During

implementation, checklists were derived for

individual machines to monitor particular

parameters on a daily, weekly and monthly basis

ERLPhase is happy and proud to announce the

LAPEM Certification for the TESLA 4000 Power

System Recorder. LAPEM is the Quality division of

CFE (The Federal Commission of Electricity of

Mexico) and approves organizations like

ERLPhase Power Technologies to supply products

and services to CFE. Suppliers are evaluated and

audited in accordance with ISO Quality

Standards. This is a clear recognition of our

constant endeavour to raise the bar for quality. In

September 2012 ERLPhase also became a

member of the PICS Consortium, which is a

prequalification system for managing contractors

and vendors.

Congratulations to John Swindlehurst and René

Midence who ran the Niagara Falls Half

Marathon on October 21, 2012. It was a true test

of their motivation and determination as well as

strength. This race includes finish line views and

sprays from the spectacular Niagara Falls.

Windows 7 Software!

Staying ahead of the latest software updates is

part of our strategy. We at ERLPhase are pleased to

announce the release of software updates for all

products and adding support for the 32 bit

Windows 7 Professional operating system. This

release maintains all backwards compatibility

features. It means that ERLPhase software will now

work with both Windows 7 32 bit operating

systems as well as XP Service Pack 3 operating
