The Erika card and Aetna ID number

Every au pair receives an Erika card before traveling to the U.S. and is then assigned an Aetna ID number shortly after arrival. A visit to the doctor

Insurance information for the doctor’s office or medical provider Au pairs need to provide their Erika Travel Insurance card and Aetna ID at medical appointments so that Aetna can be properly billed for the visit.

At a medical appointment or when speaking with a billing office, be sure to note that the au pair’s coverage is in the Aetna network (they may not recognize Erika Travel Insurance). If there is an issue confirming the au pair’s insurance information, call Aetna to confirm the insurance coverage.

In order for a medical visit to be covered, the bill sent to Aetna must state the reason for treatment. Routine care is not covered. If an au pair sees a doctor for a check-up or “well patient” visit, these routine visits are not covered.

Dental coverage Only Extended coverage includes non-accidental dental coverage – up to $200 for non-accidental treatment to relieve pain. To check if dental treatment will be covered, contact Aetna.

Questions about bills and coverage

All medical bills should be reviewed carefully. Common reasons an au pair might receive a bill include:

• The deductible was not paid during the medical visit.• The medical billing office did not bill Aetna properly.

Whether the paperwork comes from the medical provider or Aetna, always contact Aetna immediately with questions.

Filing a claim

If an au pair has paid for medical expenses and would like to file a claim for reimbursement, contact Aetna to learn how to file a claim or go to erikainsurance.com to download a claim form.

In Case of Emergency

In case of a serious medical emergency, au pairs should go directly to the nearest emergency room.

Please contact Cultural Care Au Pair so we can provide support and the au pair’s emergency assistance company (listed below) for coverage information.

Going home for an emergency If an au pair has Extended coverage, Erika Travel Insurance may cover a round trip flight in case of the death or grave illness of an immediate family member. The policy defines immediate family members as parents and siblings of the au pair. Grandparents do not fall under the definition of immediate family.
