I Spy… Secret Spy Week Spend a week with Mrs. Tilves training to be a world class

detective during this active and fun week, campers will be

transformed into code-breaking, laser dodging, fingerprint

reading, mystery-solving sleuths. This camp is sure to be

exciting! See you soon spies!

Grades 1—4.

Math Review and Refresher Review and refresh key concepts for incoming Grade 5

students every Sunday starting June 17th through August

12th from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Work with Mrs. Tilves to re-

view, refresh, and sharpen math skills and word problem

strategies. Students will meet in Mrs. Tilves’ classroom.

The cost of each session is $20.

Singapore Math Each day will bring a new model drawing problem. Model

drawing is a powerful problem solving tool that will open

new pathways for your child to understand the steps to

reaching a solution in math word problems. Also explore

the math that is involved with the many Singapore math

strategies, including number sense, patterns, fractions,

symmetry, percentages, and basic math facts. Ms. Giannelli

is the facilitator and is looking forward to working with

your child. Grades 1 - 6.

Sloppier Science Let’s get messy, gooey, and

silly with Mrs. Tilves while

learning about Science. Key

concepts will be introduced

and reinforced through fun

hands-on experiments and

demonstrations. This camp

is sure to bring science to life!

Grades 1—4.

Camp Descriptions All Camps are for students who will be entering the noted grade levels for the 2018-19 school year.

Snack Attack This week students will push the limits on the snack con-

cept and prepare a variety of wholesome, delicious, and

unique nibbles. This is not your mother’s PB&J! Chefs will

prepare a variety of bite-sized munchies like chicken salad

cups, homemade granola bars, veggie nachos, roasted red

pepper hummus with homemade pita chips and more, un-

der the guidance of Mrs. Kresge. The best part...baked

items go home with campers at the end of each session.

Grades 3—8. Supply cost is additional and will be determined

once all campers have registered.

SPARK (Sports, Play and Active Recreation for

Kids) Does your child like to run, jump, and play? If

so, then this is the summer camp for him/her! SPARK is a

nationally recognized program aimed to counter heart dis-

ease and childhood obesity. The SPARK program empha-

sizes health-related fitness through cooperative games and

activities that are fun and developmentally appropriate for

all ages. The camp will be run by EDS’s own Amy Gallo, a

certified health and physical education teacher and a

trained SPARK instructor. So, tie up those laces kids and

get ready to move! Grades 1-8.

STEM Series The below STEM Series Camps are for incoming Grades 4 -

8 students with Mr. Mark Lyons. Mr. Lyons is a recent

graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in

computer programming. He is the brother of Miss Lyons

and an Erie Day School alumni. The STEM Camps will be

geared toward students with no prior coding experience,

however, it’s great if they have it! Choose one STEM Series

camp or all three.

Web Development (HTML, CSS, and JavaS-

cript) [Week 1] Each camper will build and customize their own personal

website by writing HTML and CSS. Campers will learn the

basics of JavaScript which will allow some artistic license

on how their website will look and move. Student websites

will be hosted locally on their computers, but will also re-

ceive a quick demonstration of setting-up a new web do-

main and hosting account and show how easy it is to bring

their own creations to the internet! Additionally, there will

be one website that hosts all the websites so each camper

can access the website at home and show their family.

Grades 4-8.

Video Game Development with Python

[Week 2] The entire camping class can build their own version

of 'Space Invaders'! We will start by deciding how the

game will be structured -- with input from all campers

making these important design decisions such as:

How should score be kept?; What will the different

levels be?; In what order should we build the game?;

And then, campers will build the actual game. Camp-

ers will see how the instructor is writing code and can

follow along and write code themselves if they choose.

At certain points, campers will stop to design and

make the art for game characters and effects and even

draw a new character and make a graphic design that

will be in the game. At each step, students will have

time to play the game so they can provide input for the

next step. Grades 4-8.

Robotics [Week 3] Robotics campers will build a simple robot with basic

items that can roll around and talk to them and re-

spond to commands. The robot will have an internal

computer with a speaker and microphone, and we will

program speech recognition software to allow it to lis-

ten for commands such as "turn around" or "spin"

while the robot responds! Grades 4-8.

Supply cost is additional and will be determined once all

campers have registered.

Summer Skills This camp with Ms. Giannelli will provide your child

an opportunity to brush-up on basic math skills, writ-

ing and reading skills and geography basics. Students

will discover and reinforce concepts through games,

art, music, cooperative learning, literature and prob-

lem solving. Motivating activities to enhance and com-

bine your child’s learning and physical activity.

Grades 1 - 4.

Writers Workshop Are you a writer or want to perfect your craft? Do you

love stories? Is poetry your passion? Join Mrs. Tilves

for a week of reading, writing, and poetry. Together

we will work with writing in different genres includ-

ing, narratives, expository pieces, poetry, and more.

This will definitely be a busy and exciting week!

Grades 3—6.
