TO SERVE YOUTH AND FAMILIES THROUGH ASSET DEVELOPMENT AND ADVOCACY, PREVENTION, AND
INTERVENTION PROGRAMS THAT STRENGTHEN FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES.
2
The Erie County Youth Services Division believes strongly in providing opportunities for all young people
in our community to thrive and succeed. One way in which Youth Services works toward this goal is by
supporting numerous agencies and programs throughout the county which offer positive youth
development programs. Youth development programs serve to provide enriching opportunities for
youth to learn, grow and interact with caring and positive adults. Youth development programs have
been shown to reduce juvenile delinquency and create better educational, social and economic
outcomes for youth.
Erie County Youth Services is pleased to present this guide of local Summer Primetime programs as a
reference for parents, caregivers, and community members. All programs are either free to youth and
their families or have a system in place to ensure that no youth is turned away due to inability to pay.
We encourage you to please call the programs listed using the contact numbers provided in order to
receive additional information.
We would like to thank everyone who took the time and effort to provide the information contained in
this guide. We are grateful to all of the agencies and local youth bureaus who, because of their
dedication and selflessness, make possible the valuable services described on the following pages.
Finally, we thank you – the parents, caregivers, teachers, judges, police officers, social workers,
community groups and individual citizens of Erie County for taking the time to review this resource
guide. We hope you find it useful.
Please note: Agency information that is presented in this guide has been provided by the agencies

Website: http://cce.cornell.edu/
Program Summary: Youth CAN works primarily with youth in high-need
neighborhoods, as the majority of Teen Leaders qualify to receive free or reduced
lunch. In addition, many of the Teen Leaders lack access to safe places and
structured activities, since out-of-school youth programming opportunities for high
school students are limited. Beyond sports, the staff and students at Global,
Olmstead, and Tapestry have reported that there are few opportunities for teens to
engage in meaningful activities after school such as community service. Our
program provides the Teen Leaders with a source of income (a clear need of low-
income populations) and a benefit for those with limited access to professional
networks. Not only does summer work contribute to economic security, it also
prepares teenagers for future career success by teaching job skills at a young age.

Program Summary: Our founding team always kept an eye on Buffalo Schools and
its student athletes. As products of the Buffalo Public School system, we always
believe it was a responsibility to give back to the younger generations, and this
came through volunteer coaching, mentoring, and other endeavors. Through giving
back we’ve encountered many talented student athletes, and, unfortunately, many
did not live up to their potential, leading to journeys down the wrong path. To keep
students in high risk areas out of trouble, we must offer interactive alternatives to
show them a positive road to success. Sports has been a saving grace for many of
those who use it as a tool to reach new heights in life and education, including our
staff members. Sports, when combined with mentoring, are an effective way to
keep students on the right track. Students who meet frequently with mentors are
more likely to:
Hold leadership position in school, a club, or sports team
Participate in extracurricular activities
Enroll and graduate from college
Achieve higher scholastic success
Have better school attendance
Carry a positive attitude and reduce depressive symptoms
Become mentors themselves
28
