This is the original owner of my 1968 Firebird, Black Bird in his 1967 Firebird. Tony Knieper was the parts manager
at Stan Long Pontiac and a long time Pontiac racer with national acclaim.
It was after Tony and his brother Mike were killed on I-94 while trailing the '67 Firebird from a Chicago meet to aMichigan race. After the accident John Politzer, a close family friend of the Kniepers, set up a deal for Jim Wangersto purchase the 1968 Black Bird. A car that the guys had already prepped for street racing with Ram Air II heads,
John Politzer retrieved the wrecked 1967 Firebird, pictured, from the St. Joseph, MI Police impound yard.
Unfortunately, Tony's successful racing career will be lost in Pontiac histroy.
The Black Bird was a topic of interest in the Birmingham Observer and Eccentric 2002 for theDetroit Autorama.
