a) Library : � Access to library resources is through the Faculty Library and the Central

Library in the University. � Faculty Library consists of 5076 books and periodic Journals, both National(13)

and International(03). � Central Library also has a section of Law books under the Issue section. The

Participation in: � The 1st batch of Para Legal Volunteers (24) were trained by the Delhi State Legal Services

Authority (DSLSA) by the Member Secretary of the DSLSA under the Para Legal Volunteer Scheme of the National Legal Services Authority constituted under the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987. These PLVs participated in various extension activities of DSLSA.

� The 2nd batch of Para Legal Volunteers (125) were trained by the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) by various Additional and Sessions Judges under the Para Legal Volunteer Scheme of the National Legal Services Authority constituted under the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987.

� These 125 PLVs have participated in National Lok Adalats, Mass Legal Literacy Mission programmes in government and public schools, Counseling rape victims, managing Help desks of DSLSA in its Legal aid programmes. They have participated in Legal Awareness Programmes, Nukkad Nataks to create awareness about the laws and rights of people under the Constitution and other Laws during the Talimi Mela and elsewhere. At present there is preparation for organising a survey on Unorganised Sector of Labour.

• The demand for Law graduates has increased tremendously in recent years. Many students desire to study law to join the legal profession. Jamia Millia Islamia is the only Central University in the Capital which offers a five year integrated BA.LLB.( Hons) programme. This aspect attracts students from different parts of the country to seek admission in our Faculty.

• As the five year Law programme offered by the Faculty opens admission to only those students who have completed the 10+2 level or equivalent level of school study, the students who are finally admitted through the entrance test remain highly committed and focussed in their pursuit of legal education.This aspect is reflected in the quality of Law graduates who pass out from the University.

• In the five year Law programme, non-law subjects, such as, economics, sociology, political science and history, are taught to students in the first year.This enables the students to study law with an inter-disciplinary approach which helps them understand the relevance of law to the society.

• The faculty has a resourceful library with well-defined journal and reference books sections. • The semester system of pursuing the Law programme has proved very advantageous for the

students as well as the Faculty members. It keeps both the teachers and students busy in meeting deadlines. This has

• greatly contributed towards enhancing the level of professionalism of the course. • We are happy to submit that all our students get absorbed in jobs or start their independent

practice. They are groomed in a manner that they can compete with the best of law graduates present in the mainstream, both at the National and International levels. Our alumni have made an indelible mark in the various sectors of the legal profession,

• One of the most notable features of our Faculty is that the students come from diverse background..This helps the students to learn from each other and develop in a healthy way. It inculcates feelings of love, affection and togetherness amongst them.

• The Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia, has gained tremendous recognition at the National and International levels. At the National level it has been rated as 11th best professional college of the country.

• All the Faculty members of the Faculty of Law have doctorate degrees to their credit. They have acquired specialisations in diverse areas of law and continue upgrading themselves.

Weaknesses:

• There is a paucity of Faculty members which needs to be addressed soon. • There should be more resourses allocated for enriching the library. • Since our Law course is regulated by the Bar Council of India rules and the rules require that

the Faculty of Law should have a separate building. It is therefore, essetial for us to have a separate building.

• Weneed to strengthen the involvement of our Alumni to help enhance the quality of legal education.
