Presentation of the University

HISTORY

The University “Eftimie Murgu” of Reşiţa (acronym: UEMR) has adopted the name

of the Banat patriot Eftimie Murgu in its denomination, as a token of respect for

this p r o m i n e n t B a n a t a n d R o m a n i a n personality. Eftimie Murgu was

born at Rudaria on December 28th 1805. Between 1834 and 1837 he was a teacher

at the Mihăileană Academy in Yassy and then at the “Saint Sava” College in

Bucharest, from 1837 to 1838. He became the mentor of som illustrious

personalities, among whom:Dimitrie Gusti,Ion Ionescu de la Brad, C.A . Rosetti

and Nicolae Bălcescu. He remarked himself as an arduous fighter for the union of

Banat to Wallachia. On 16-17.

May and on 27 June 1848 he took part in the Revolutionaries' Assembly in Lugoj,

who nominated him “The General Captain of Banat”. On that occasion one adopted

the programme for the rights of Banat Romanians, entitled “ Petition of the

Romanian People of Hungary”, asking for the establishment of a Romanian

people's army by arming the people, organisation of Banat as a General

Captaindom, recognition of the Romanian language an official language throughout

Banat and independence for the Romania Church of Banat from the Serbian

Church. On the 1st of July 1848, Eftimie Murgu was elected a Member of

Parliament in Pesta, from the part of the electoral circuits of Lugoj, Oraviţa and

Făget, position who enabled him to support the Programme of the Lugoj

Revolutionaries. The great patriot of Banat passed away on the 12th of May 1870

and was buried in the Kerepesy cemetery of Budapest.

Until the 23rd of May 2008, the university's

emblem was an open book. At the beginning

of 2008, as part of an ample process of the

university modernisation, the emblem was

changed by the decision of the Senate. The

new emblem, more stylised, takes over the

initial symbolistics of the book opened toward

the depths of knowledge, but encourages at

the same time the similarity with a pair of

wings spread out to the skies. The slogan of

the UEMR is: “Designing your future!”.

.The patrimony of

the University

Structure:University

“Eftimie Murgu” of

the following premises

and buildings:

- university campus, made

of five wings (A, B,C, D

and E), situated at the

very centre of the town

of Reşiţa;

- building G located

in Caransebeş;

- students' hostel

and canteen situated close

to the main campus;

- sports hall

(under construction);

- students' culture home;

- summer university

campus, situated in the

locality of Coronini, on the

Danube's shore

LIBRARY

An important part in the support

of the educational process and

of the research activity is played

by the University Library. The

university has its own library,

with 3 reading and study rooms,

among which one with access to

the shelves and one with access

to the Internet. Its total surface

is of 3 8 8 . 6 4 s q . m . , a n d i

c a n accommodate 161 readers

at a time.

CANTEEN

The university canteen situated next to the

hostel has been completely modernised in the

past few years. It has a useful surface of

2,036.83 sq.m.

and can serve meals to 250 students at a time.

Beginning with October 2010, the second

canteen was opened in the main university

campus, with a capacity of 300 persons per

series. It offers the students, teachers,

researchers and guests of the university the

possibility to have lunch from Monday to

Friday, between 8:00

and 16:00.

Campus

The accommodation of the students, teachers and

occasional guests of the university may be assured in

the s t u d e n t s ' h o s t e l , w h i c h c a n

accommodate at present maximum 324 persons,

distributed in 108 rooms with 1, 2, 3 or 4 beds, with a

total surface of 2,284 sq.m. Moreover, the D wing of

the University Campus has a n o t h e r 9 r o o m s t h

a t c a n accommodate 18 persons, being destined to

the ERASMUS students come from the partner

universities

from Europe and to other persons who carry on

temporary activity within the UEMR (guest

professors from abroad, partners in the research

projects, etc.).

All the rooms have bee recently efurbished and have

bathrooms with showers, Internet connection, cable T

V a n d m o d e r n f u r n i t u r e . Furthermore, the

one- and two-room flats are equipped with TV sets

and refrigerators.

The Cogito Association

The activities carried on by the

members of the Cogito Association

are mainly directed to students:

„Youth Days” (twelve editions),

„Art and Science”, „Fractal”

summer school (ten editions),

centre of information for students

“Info-Centre”, „Science VIP

Show", „Volunteering Fair”,

„Here come the Bachelor finals”,

„Did you know that?”, „Where are

the cinema makers?”, scale

The Alumni Association

The Alumni Association of the University „Eftimie

Murgu" Reşiţa was established in 2006 in order to

create a bond between the university and its

graduates. Up to now the actions of the association

have been especially focused upon the graduates

and senior year students: facilitating the graduates'

access to the labour market, dissemination of i n f

o r m a t i o n r e l a t e d t o e x t e r n a l

programmes of post-graduate studies, consulting

regarding the stages covered when finalising a

cycle of studies. These directions have been

materialised in seminars of students' information

(„Here come the Bachelor finals!”, „How to

behave during a job interview”) as well as

in the organisation of a database with the

university's alumni and county employers.

branches that function within the CSU

are: athletics, handball, swimming,

soccer and beach volleyball. We must

remark the results obtained by the

University's students in these past

years of competitions: over 250

medals, participation in the 2012

London Olympic Games (marching

race), the title of 2013 national

champions won by the beach

volleyball team, the title of 2013

university champions won by the male

handball team, the title of 2013

national and university champion
