Chapter 1: Introduction

The EQUITEL audio over IP devices family allows the transmission and reception of music channels and audio messages over IP, using standard IP network hardware.

These devices provide a unified solution for transmitting audio signals such as background music, advertising and informational messages, to one or more destinations.

By supporting multiple protocols and encoders, these devices are indicated in broadcasting applications, VoIP and Internet radio. In addition to leveraging existing infrastructure and devices such as SIP phones.

Encoder (E421) sends audio input through the Ethernet network. This process is known as "streaming". Streams can also be generated by other devices, like a PC running an application or a SIP phone.

The E495 and E497 desktop microphone consoles can also send vocal messages to the decoders for paging applications. If more than one of these devices are used, they intercommunicate to avoid message collisions.

The E430 is a music and announcements server that can generate audio from internally stored files. It can be used to generate background music channels and/or advertisements.

Decoders (E411, E413 or E415) can receive selected channels (i.e. "streams") from the network and convert it back to an analog audio signal.

Mixer (E417), besides the same features than the decoders, includes the option to use audio coming from files stored in a USB memory or analog signals in its MIC or LINE inputs.

The selection of the actual stream, local file or analog signal to be sent to the output is made based on a powerful but very easy to configure priority schema.

The figure shows a schematic of this family of devices usage:

This document is the user's manual for the decoding members of the family:

E411 - Decoder Stereo output in line level (RCA) and headphones.

To be used with an external amplifier.

E413 - Decoder with digital I/O Same features as E411 including two digital inputs and outputs for

external devices control.

Digital outputs can be used to switch ON/OFF the external amplifier.

E415 - Amplified decoder Same as E413 and includes a high quality 25W audio amplifier.

Amplified output can be configured in mono or stereo.

Line-out output can be used simultaneously.

E417 - Decoder / Mixer With the same characteristics as E415, it can also play sound from

files stored in an external USB memory and from its analog inputs.

Ideal to mix external background sources with local messages.

TMH60ENA Wall-mount control for the ENA decoders.

Allows selection of the background music channel and volume control in an easy way.

Chapter 2: Functionality

2.1 Audio source types

Decoders can play high quality stereo sound coming from several source types:

RTP:

Audio streams coming from E321 encoders, E495 or E497 paging consoles, E430 audio server, computer applications or other devices, in the RTP format as defined in RFC 3550.

The RTP can be received also in multicast mode. So, many decoders can play the same RTP stream without extra bandwidth consumption. The allowable payload formats are:

o G711-A: (vocal quality, VoIP standard)

o PCM 16 bits/sample, 1 or 2 channels, 11025 Hz (voice/music – medium quality)

o PCM 16 bits/sample, 1 channel, 22050 Hz (voice/music – good quality)

o PCM 16 bits/sample, 1 channel, 32000 Hz (voice/music – very good quality)

o MP3 (quality according to emitter)

When using these RTP formats, as audio is not compressed, the latency is fairly low1.

RTP/SIP 2:

Audio streams coming from a standard SIP phone or PBX. The audio codec used is G711-A.

The decoder has an internal SIP agent that can be registered in an SIP PBX and acts as a standard extension accepting calls.

Also, can be configured in “peer-to-peer” (P2P) mode if not PBX is used to accept calls directly from phones.

When a call is received, is automatically answered and the audio is sent to the output if no other higher priority channel is being played.

SHOUTcast / ICEcast 3:

High quality audio streams coming from local or internet servers (internet radios). These streams can also be generated with the ENA software or the E430 audio server.

The device connects to the configured URL to acquire the compressed audio stream. The audio can be sent in any of the following formats:

o MP3 up to 192 kb/s

o AAC+ up to 192 kb/s

o Ogg-Vorbis up to 192 kb/s

Due to audio compression and buffering, this format has a very high latency, that can reach several seconds.

using these protocols, and is quite easy to create a proprietary radio using one ICEcast server provided by an ISE (Internet Services Provider).

Audio files (in E417 only):

The E417 can decode and play audio files stored in an USB mass storage device.

The allowable formats are: o MP3 up to 320 kb/s (Fixed bit rate)

Analog inputs (in E417 only):

The E417 has two analog inputs (microphone and line-in) than can be sent directly to the output.

Each input can be assigned only to one of the possible audio sources. See next point for more information.

2.2 Audio layers

Decoders can accept up to 10 simultaneous sources or channels, grouped in three categories or “audio layers”:

Background music:

The purpose of this layer is to be used for the ambience sound. Is the lowest priority layer and accepts up to 6 sources (channels).

The allowable source types for this layer are: RTP, SHOUTcast / ICEcast, audio files (in continuous playlist mode) and the analog inputs.

The selection of the channel to be played can be made manually with the web server of the device, through an external application in a computer or mobile device and with the wall-mount control TMH60ENA

It is also possible to allow the device to automatically change the channel being played if there are no data to decode (for instance, a break-down in the connection to an internet radio).

The playing of a channel of this layer can be interrupted by the presence of audio in one channel of the other two layers.

Advertisements:

This is the layer used to play advertisements. It accepts up to 3 channels, each one with its own priority level.

Allowable source types are: RTP, RTP/SIP, Audio files (in periodic playlist mode) and the analog inputs.

Audio in this layer can interrupt the audio in the Background Music one and can be interrupted by audio in the Emergency layer.

Emergency:

This is the highest priority layer and accepts only one channel. It is commonly used in PA systems for evacuation or emergency messages.

The allowable source types for this layer are: RTP, RTP/SIP and the Analog inputs.

2.3 Audio switching

Only one of the 10 possible channels can be played at a time. The device chooses which one must be played analyzing their status (active/inactive), the assigned priorities and the user selection (only for the “Background Music” layer channels).

The activation of each channel depends on the source type configured for it:

For the RTP audio streams, the channel becomes active when there is data present during more than 70 ms and becomes inactive when there is no data for more than 1 second.

When the audio comes from an SIP phone, the channel becomes active or inactive attending to the SIP protocol. When the call is established, the channel is activated. When the call is ended, the channel is deactivated.

SHOUTcast or ICEcast sources are activated when the connection with the configured server can be established. If the connection fails, the source is deactivated.

Sources based on local files for the advertisement layer are activated by a time scheduling. When used for the background music layer, they are always active, being played continuously in a loop mode if the channel is selected.

Analog inputs used for the “Advertisements” or “Emergency” layers are activated by one of the digital inputs in the device. When used for background music, they are always active. Each one of the analog inputs can be assigned only to one input channel.

2.4 Digital I/Os

The E413, E415 and E417 models have two digital inputs and outputs.

Inputs:

In all decoders, can be used to control the volume of the background music channel being played. When input 1 is active (contact closed), volume increases in 2 db each 500 milliseconds. Contact 2 decreases the volume in the same way.

In the E417, can be also used to activate the analog audio sources.

Outputs:

Can be used for activation of external devices (i.e. an amplifier, a light, etc.) when one (or more) of the input channels are being played.

Further this, both inputs and outputs can be managed through the control protocol of the devices from external applications, for instance to read sensors, activate doors, etc.

3.1 External elements location

The following figure shows the external elements of the E417. Not all of the elements are present in all the models, as shown in the table below:

3.2 Power supply

The devices can be powered by an external 12 or 24 volts DC power supply (connector in the Figure 2) or

by PoE 5 (Power over Ethernet) using the Ethernet cable.

The PoE versions can be powered also through the connector . If both supplies are simultaneously

present, the PoE is not used.

The external power supply connector needed is 5.5 x 2.1 mm, with the polarity shown in the figure:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Decoders with amplified audio output (E415 and E417) need to be powered with an external 24V / 2A supply to achieve the maximum output power to the loudspeakers, even in the ‘-P’ version. PoE+ can’t supply as much power as the device needs.

3.3 Indicators

There are four LEDs in the front plate of the device ( ) with the following meaning:

ON (Green): indicates that the device is powered.

RUN (Green) when flashing indicates that the device is working properly.

OUT (Green): indicates active audio output.

ERROR (Red): Indicates some kind of error. It can be a network error, a malformed audio source or a serious system failure.

3.4 IP address indication and default configuration recovery

The devices have an internal pushbutton ( ) with two functions:

To indicate the IP address: When pressed momentarily (1 second), the IP address is said via the audio outputs. Simply connect a headset to the output to listen to the IP address.

To Reset to default settings: When pressed for more than 6 seconds, the default settings will be restored.

To access the internal switch, use a small screwdriver or a wire (a paper clip can serve, for example).

3.5 Ethernet

The 10/100 Ethernet port has Auto-MDIX capability.

The Auto-MDIX automatically switches from MDI to MDI-X and vice versa, allowing the connection of any type of cable (straight or crossover) regardless of whether the module is connected directly to a computer, to a switch / hub or other device.

There are two LEDs in the connector:

Green LED: indicates line activity. When blinking, the line is OK. If the LED is OFF, there is no link.

Amber LED: indicates the speed of the connection. If the LED is ON, the link is established at 100 Mb/s.; if OFF, at 10 Mb/s.

3.6 Digital I/O

The E413, E415 and E417 models have two digital inputs and two digital outputs located in terminal .

The inputs can be used to trigger some audio sources activation. One of the most typical applications would be to connect the “push to talk” button of a console to trigger the audio input in the E417.

Also can be used to control the volume of the background music being played as following:

Input 1, when activated (closed), increases the volume in 2 dB steps each 500 milliseconds.

Input 2 decreases the volume in the same way.

The outputs can control external devices triggered by the activation of one or several audio sources. For instance, to control the power of an external amplifier in PA applications when audio is emitted and a flashlight when the emergency channel is active.

3.6.1. Inputs

Inputs are designed to be connected to a switch or dry contact and are optically isolated, as seen in the schema:

When the “A” and “B” terminals are connected, the input is considered active.

As said, the inputs are designed to be driven by dry contacts (i.e. switches), but can also be controlled by other interfaces like open collector. 3.6.2. Outputs

Each output has a SPDT relay. So, it can be used as “normally open” or “normally closed”.

The drawing in the rear plate of the device show the status when the output is inactive: The center terminal is connected to the right one:

The characteristics of the relays are:

Maximum operating current: 1A

Maximum operating voltage: 125VAC or 60VDC

3.7 Audio Outputs

As previously said, decoders accept several audio input channels, but can only play one at a time.

The resulting audio output is sent simultaneously to the three possible audio outputs: Headphone, line out and amplified output (only in E415 and E417).

3.7.1. Headphone Output

All models have a 3.5 mm stereo jack headphone output ( ). This output is particularly useful to retrieve

the IP address of the decoder by pressing the internal button 'IP / RD' ( ).

3.7.2. Line Out

The stereo audio line out, also present in all decoders, is accessible via two RCA connectors ( ), with a

level of 1.8Vpp on 10kΩ.

The white connector corresponds to the left channel and the red one to the right channel.

3.7.3. Amplified audio output

The E415 and E417 models have an internal amplifier to drive speakers directly. The amplified output is in the rear plate of the device ( ). It can be used in stereo or mono mode. Also, it can be disabled, if not

used, to reduce the device consumption.

The speakers must be connected as shown in the figure:

Remember that besides choosing the appropriate connection, the device must be configured in accordance. (See point 4.2.2)

The maximum output power obtained depends on the power supply chosen, as shown in point 3.2 .

There are two internal potentiometers in the device to limit the maximum output power sent to the speakers:

Devices are shipped with this potentiometers set to maximum value.

If the used speakers’ power is smaller than the maximum output of the device, the potentiometers must be adjusted accordingly in order to prevent the speakers destruction.

In this case, care must be taken to adjust both potentiometers to approximately the same value.

The adjustment must be done experimentally, configuring the device to play a channel at maximum level and adjusting the potentiometers to obtain a good sound without distortion in the speakers.

3.8 Audio inputs

The E417 model has two audio inputs that can be used as a local audio source: a stereo line level and a mono microphone level.

3.8.1. Mic input

The microphone input connector ( ) is a 3.5 mm 3-terminal Jack.

The simplified schematic is shown in the figure:

The maximum input level is 143mVpp, with an impedance of 45kΩ.

The input accepts directly the standard microphones designed for computers.

3.8.2. Line input

The line input ( ) is a stereo RCA, with a level of 2.5Vpp and an impedance of 80kΩ.

The white connector is the left channel and the red, the right one.

3.9 USB connector

The E417 has a type A USB connector ( ) to connect a mass storage device to store audio files that can be

decoded and played locally.

It’s an USB 2.0 interface that supports devices formatted in the FAT32 file system, with a maximum capacity of 64 GB.

It is very important to not unplug the USB memory while it is in use to avoid file corruption or even its destruction.

The device is accessible through the network using the FTP protocol to change its content remotely 6.

3.10 Wall-mount remote control connector

All decoders with the “-R” option include a 3.5 mm jack ( in Figure 2) to connect the TMH60ENA wall

mount remote control.

In this case, a 3.5 mm jack to terminal adapter is supplied to easily connect the 3 wires needed for the remote control, as shown in the figure:

Chapter 4: Configuration and control of the device The devices have an integrated Web server that allows you to configure and control them remotely from any Web browser.

This document will focus on the Web server for the E417 model, indicating in each case the features that are not available in other models.

4.1 Accessing the device

Connect the device to the Ethernet network and the power supply7.

The devices are configured in factory to acquire its IP address by DHCP. If your network has a DCHP server, it will assign a valid IP to the device about 40 seconds after powering the device.

If there is no DHCP server or isn't accessible for any reason, after 3 minutes approximately, the device will configure itself with the following access parameters:

IP: 192.168.1.1

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.1.254

There are three methods to know the IP address of the device:

Connect headphones to the connector and momentarily press the "IP/RD" button . The

device will say its IP address through the headphones.

Using the free "EQUITEL Devices Searcher" application8, for locating Equitel devices in an Ethernet

network.

Using the free application "ENALite"8 to access to the device.

Once the IP is known, you can access the web server with a standard web browser following this steps:

Configure the computer's IP in the same subnet as the device and make sure there are no other devices on the network with the same IP addresses.

Start your browser and type the IP address of the device in the access bar.

A dialog box requesting an username and password will appear. Devices are shipped with the following credentials by default:

User: admin

Password admin

Once the credentials are entered correctly, the initial page is shown:

At the top of the page are shown the device model, a button to change between control and configuration mode, and the icons to change the language.

Initially no source is configured. So, the only information shown on this page is the device's MAC, serial number and firmware version.

The upper button lets you toggle between the two working modes:

Control Mode: When the device is properly configured, this page shows its status and allows its control (i.e. background music channel selection and volume control). See section 4.3 .

Configuration Mode: To configure the device parameters. See section 4.2.

4.2 Configuration

Once the configuration mode is chosen, the browser will show a page with five tabs to access to all configurable device parameters:

Generic: General information about the device identification and credentials settings.

Audio I/O: Analog audio inputs and outputs related settings. Only applies to E415 and E417.

Channels: Audio channels configuration.

Network: Ethernet interface configuration.

Fw/Reset: Firmware update, initial values recovery and device's reset.

VERY IMPORTANT: After doing changes in the configuration, you must press the "Save" button that appear at the bottom of the page. If the browser window isn’t high enough to show the button, you must use the vertical scroll bar to make it visible.

When changes are saved, the device reboots and disconnects for about 30 seconds.

If device is working in DHCP mode, the reboot time is increased to about 60 seconds.

Navigating through the configuration pages doesn’t lose the temporary changes. So, you can save the changes only after all the configuration is done.

Next sections show the configuration pages.

4.2.1. General Information

This tab, as shown in figure 11, gives information about the device model and the firmware version.

It also lets you change the device's identification and access credentials for the Web server.

NOTE: If you change and forget these credentials, you will make the device inaccessible unless performing a reset to factory settings using the "IP/RD" button in the rear of the device.

Device identification is only used for user purposes as a help to label the different devices present in a network.

4.2.2. Audio

This tab contains the analog audio input and output configurations. Only appears in the E415 and E417 models:

Audio output

It allows the configuration of the amplified audio output mode.

This mode can be:

Not used: The output amplifier is not powered, reducing the consumption of the device.

Mono: The output is in mono mode.

Stereo: The output is used in stereo mode.

Please, note that the speaker(s) must be connected according to the selected mode. See section 3.7.3 for more information.

Input Amplification

This only applies to the E417 model.

It sets the additional gain for the two audio inputs: line-level input and microphone.

For each of the entries there is a slider to choose the gain factor from 1 to 64.

4.2.3. Audio Channels

This tab is where the 10 possible audio channels are configured. Initially, all the channels appear as "unused":

The table shows the list of channels sorted according to its priority, obtained as combination of the Audio Layer and its order within it. (See chapter 2 for a complete description of the audio channels priority schema.)

The labels used are:

EM: Emergency layer. Only one channel.

AD: Advertisement layer, with three channels: "AD1" to "AD3", from higher to lower priority.

BGM: Background music layer, with 6 channels: "BGM1" to "BGM6", all with the same priority. The change from one channel to another can be done manually through the "Control" mode of the web server. If more than one BGM channel is configured, at the bottom appears the “BGM auto selection” option that allows the device to change from one BGM to another in case the one being played fails (see figure 11).

To edit the configuration of each channel, press the button:

This button will open a window with the possible configuration parameters. Some of them are present in all sources and others depend on the type of source assigned:

Common parameters to all sources are:

ID: The label to identify the source.

Volume: The default attenuation (i.e. volume) for the source in the range of -55 dB to 0 dB. For BGM channels, the volume can be modified while playing from the web page, by means of the input contacts (only in E413, E415 and E417) or with the TMH60ENA wall-mount controller. For the other source channels (ADV and EMG), volume can only be changed from the web page.

Turn output contact on: Output contact activated when the source is active (only for the E413, E415 and E417 models).

Source type: Allows the selection of the audio source type. The allowable options depend on the layer of the channel being configured, as shown in the table:

The window will show the appropriate parameters depending on the source chosen. See next sections for a detailed description of the different source type configuration windows.

When the channels are configured, the table shows the identifiers and buttons with a cross to remove them:

If BGM channels are configured, two selectors appear at the bottom of the table:

BGM Auto Selection: If this option is checked, when the data connection of the BGM channel that is being played fails, the decoder tries to play the next configured channel.

BGM Volume control with input contacts: This allows to use the input contacts (only available in E413, E415 and E417) to control the volume of the background music being played. When input contact 1 is active, the volume increases in 2 dB steps at 500 ms intervals. The input contact 2 decreases the volume in the same way.

Please note that in the E417, if you use the input contacts to control the volume, they can’t be used to trigger the analog inputs for the advertisements or emergency channels.

‘RTP’ Source type configuration

For this source type, the device opens a RTP receiver on the selected port with the expected format configured.

NOTE: If data is sent to the port in RTP but with wrong audio format, the result would be unpredictable.

The channel will be activated when there are valid RTP packets for more than 70 ms and deactivated in absence of data for more than 1 second.

This is the configuration form for this source type:

Unicast: The device will accept the RTP packets sent to its IP address and the configured port.

Multicast: The device will aggregate itself to the group on the configured multicast IP address and will receive RTP packets on the selected port.

The selected port must be even and not used for another channel in the device.

‘SIP PBX’ Source type configuration

In this case, the audio communication is established with a SIP device (i.e. a telephone) through a SIP PBX.

The codec used is G711-A (also known as PCMA). This is the most common codec used in VoIP systems and almost 100% of the devices support it.

The device registers itself as an extension on the PBX and answers automatically the incoming calls, activating the channel. The channel is deactivated when the call is ended by the other end (telephone).

The configuration form for this source is:

The parameters to configure are:

PBX IP: IP address of the PBX.

PBX port: SIP port of the PBX (the standard is 5060).

Refresh time: Duration of the registration. The device must renew the registration in the PBX with this periodicity (time in seconds).

User: The extension assigned to the device in the PBX.

Password: Security password configured in the PBX for the assigned extension.

Local RTP port: Port for the audio RTP. Must be an even number between 0 and 65534, and not used for other channels in the device.

‘P2P SIP’ Source type configuration

This source type is similar to the PBX SIP one but, in this case, the communication is established using the SIP protocol directly between two endpoints without using a PBX. This method to communicate SIP devices is known as “peer to peer” or “P2P”.

The absence of a PBX forces the calling device (usually a telephone) to know the IP address of the unit called (in this case the E41x decoder) and make the call using this IP address number instead a simple numeric extension.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not possible with all the phones in the market. So, special care has to be taken when choosing the phone used to make the calls, and also with its configuration.

The configuration form for this source type is:

The parameters to be set are:

Local extension: The extension assigned to the device. Even it cannot be used to call the device in P2P mode, is mandatory for the SIP protocol to have an extension assigned for each device. You may use any combination of numbers and letters up to 25 characters. Spaces are not allowed.

Local RTP port: Port for receiving the RTP audio packets. Must be an even number between 0 and 65534 and not be used for other channels in the device.

Buffer size: number of packets in the input buffer. The greater the value, the more network jitter the decoder is able to absorb, but the greater the delay in relation to the emitter. Default value is 8.

‘SHOUTcast / ICEcast’ source type configuration

Both SHOUTCast and ICEcast are standard protocols used to transmit high quality compressed audio through Internet and local networks.

Due to the compression mechanism and the transmission methods used, these protocols yield a very high latency (several seconds). So, these protocols can’t be used for “live” messages. In the E41x decoders, they are used only for the Background Music layer channels.

The configuration of this source type is very simple:

The main configurable parameter is the URL of the stream to decode.

Obtaining the URL for an Internet ICEcast radio

There are many public internet radios that are broadcasted using the ICEcast or SHOUTcast protocols.

The method to get the URLs for that radios depends on the publisher.

For instance, you can access to the web page www.icecast.org, enter in the stream directory, choose a radio in one of the allowed formats, locate the link and, using the right mouse button, select “Copy link address”, and then paste the obtained URL in the decoder configuration page, as shown in the following images:

Creating the URL for an ICEcast radio generated by the E430 or the ENALite application

When using the E430 music and announcements server or the ENALIte application to generate the ICEcast stream, the format for the URL would be:

http://[DeviceIP/name]:8000/[Stream name]

where:

[Device IP/name]: Represents the IP address or name in the network of the device generating the stream. In case of the ENALite application, it must be the name or IP address of the computer where the application is running.

[Stream name]: Represents the name given to the stream in the E430 or application.

‘Scheduled playlist’ Source type configuration

This source type is used in the Advertisement layers channels to play recorded messages stored in the USB memory. It is only available in the E417 model.

The configuration form is as shown:

The “Mode” parameter has, for current version9, only the option “Periodic”. This mode plays all the MP3

files in the selected folder of the USB memory at a fixed period sequentially.

The period is set in minutes, from 1 to 999.

The files must be in MP3 format, with a maximum bit rate of 320 kb/s.

To select the USB folder, press the button Open . This will open a new window with the content of the

connected USB. Navigate though the tree, select the desired folder and press Select .

The device will play all the files in the folder in a sequential loop at the set rate.

Files are played in alphabetic order. So, if you want play the files in a specific order, you can rename them to obtain the desired order (for instance adding two characters at the beginning of each name: “01-Oranges”, “02-Meatballs”, etc.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Each time the device is restarted, the playing starts from the first file in the folder.

‘Continuous playlist’ Source type configuration

This source type can be used in the E417 for the Background Music channels to play MP3 files stored in the USB memory in a continuous loop.

In the configuration from, you can choose the USB folder containing the files to be played and the playing mode:

shown and press Select .

Folders with special characters (like vowels with accent) cannot be chosen. Only ASCII characters are supported.

In the ‘Playing mode’ selector there are two choices:

Normal: Files are played in alphabetical order.

Random: Files are played in random order.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In ‘normal’ mode, each time the device is restarted, the playing starts from the first file in the folder.

‘Microphone’ Source type configuration

In the E417, the microphone input can be used for one of the channels.

If it is used for one channel of the Advertisements or Emergency layers, the activation of the channel must be triggered by one of the two input contacts. Select the desired input to be used in the ‘Activation’ field:

If there is another channel using one input contact to trigger the line input, the ‘Activation’ field will let you to choose only the other contact.

Also, if you are using the input contacts to control the volume of the BGM sources and try to create a channel with the microphone source type, you’ll be prompted about the incompatibility and the possibility to disable the volume control:

If the microphone input is used for a Background Music layer channel, the activation/deactivation is made manually through the control mode of the web server or the TMH60ENA wall-mount controller. So, there is no option to choose the activation contact:

‘Line’ Source type configuration

As for the microphone input, line input can be used in the E417 as source for one audio channel.

If it is used for one channel of the Advertisements or Emergency layers, the activation of the channel must be triggered by the closure of one of the two input contacts. Select the desired input to be used in the ‘Activation’ field:

4.2.4. Network

This tab shows the values of the network access parameters and allows its configuration.

Network access can be configured in static or dynamic mode:

Static mode

In static mode, the access data has to be configured manually to match the network needs.

Once the corresponding parameters have been established, save changes by pressing the 'Apply' button at the bottom of the page.

After saving the settings, the device will reboot.

If set to static mode, the web server will try to reconnect after 32 seconds with the new IP. If it can connect, it will ask again for the security credentials and will display a page showing the current network parameters to be validated by pressing the “Validate” button:

Validation must be done within 5 minutes to store the changes permanently in the device’s configuration memory. If data is not validated, the device will reboot again with the access parameters it had before being changed.

This mechanism is implemented to avoid mistakes in the network configuration. If you make a mistake entering any parameter and the device becomes inaccessible, simply wait 5 minutes and reconnect with the old values.

Dynamic mode

If IP is set to dynamic mode, the device will try to obtain the access parameters from a DHCP server in the network.

If it can’t obtain the parameters in 3 minutes, it will switch automatically to the static IP mode, with these parameters:

IP: 192.168.1.1

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.1.254

To know the IP address of the device, you can use any of the methods described in section 4.1

4.2.5. Firmware updates and device reset

The page labeled as “Fw / Reset” allows to perform three actions:

Reboot device

Press the button to reset the device remotely. After a few seconds, the web server will connect again with the device.

Restore default values

Pressing the button, the device configuration is reset to its default values, except the network settings.

Firmware upgrade

At EQUITEL we are continuously working in the improvement of our products. As a result of this process, new firmware versions are published.

The update process is very simple, just select the firmware file you have received or downloaded10

by pressing the button with the folder icon and then press the 'Save' button.

The update process will take a few minutes, after which the device will restart automatically.

Normally the configuration is maintained after the upgrade. If not, it will be specified in the firmware publishing.

NOTE: After firmware upgrade is completed, a message will be shown to close the browser. It is compulsory to do so before attempting to reconnect to the web server.

Control page displays the channel currently playing and allows changing the active BGM channel:

To change the active BGM channel, simply press its play button.

If an AD or EM channel is activated, it will be highlighted and its volume can be adjusted.

Chapter 5: TMH60ENA wall-mount controller

5.1 Description

The TMH60ENA controller allows the control of the background music playing of the ENA decoders E411,E413, E415 and E417 with the “-R” option enabled.

When a higher priority sound source is played (emergency or advertisements), it is shown in the display but the volume control is disabled.

It has a graphic display with 9 backlight levels and 4 small pushbuttons.

Can be mounted in a European 60mm universal flush or surface mount box11

using the optional plate TMH60_TF:

5.2 Connection

The connection between the E41x decoder and the TMH60ENA controller is a 3-wire connection: +5V, Ground and Data. The controller is powered by the E41x decoder.

The E41x decoders with the “-R” option, have a 3.5mm jack connector in the background ( in Figure 2) for

this connection.

To make the installation easier, an 3.5mm jack to terminals adapter is supplied with each decoder.

5.3 Operation

5.3.1. Initial screen

When the control is powered, it shows the initial screen .

After a few seconds it will show the default screen (see point 0)

If there are no BGM sources configured in the decoder, the controller only can show the information of the emergency or advertisements channel being decoded. So the control screen is replaced by the one shown in point 5.3.2

If the communication with the decoder fails, it will show the error screen (see point 0)

5.3.2. No BGM sources screen

This is the screen shown when no BGM sources are configured.

In this case, the controller only can show the information of the advertisement or emergency channels when it is played (see point 5.3.5).

5.3.3. Default /control screen

By default the controller shows the BGM source being played and allows the control by means of its four buttons.

The upper buttons are for the volume control: The upper left decreases the volume and the right one increases it. You can press momentarily the button to increase/decrease the volume in a 'step-by-step' mode or you can maintain the buttons pressed to make the change continuously.

The lower left button allow you to start/stop the playing of the selected source. In the screen is shown the action the button has. So, if the source is being played, the screen shows "STOP". If the source is stopped, the label next the button shows "PLAY".

The lower right button has two functions:

If pressed momentarily, it allows the selection of one of the possible BGM sources configured in the device (see point 5.3.4).

If pressed for a few seconds, it shows the information and configuration screen of the TMH60ENA controller (see point 0)

5.3.4. BGM channel selection

The screen shows the list of identifiers of the BGM sources configured in the decoder.

The selected channel is marked in inverse.

The right buttons allows to change the selection.

The upper left button returns to the default screen without applying the change made.

The bottom left button applies the change and returns to the default screen.

Once the source is changed, you must wait a few seconds for the change to take effect.

NOTE: if an advertisement or emergency channel starts playing while you are in this screen, the changes won't be applied and you will returned to the default screen after the advertisement or emergency messages ends.

5.3.5. ADV or EMG channel information

When one of the advertisement or emergency channels is activated, the controller shows in the screen the identifier of the channel being played.

The volume control of these channels is disabled. No action can be done in the controller while these channels are active.

5.3.6. System info and configuration

In this screen there are three options that can be selected with the lower right button and validated with the lower left one:

"Nivel Luz" (Light Level): Allows to change the level of the backlight of the display.

"Versión" (Version): Shows the firmware version of the TMH60ENA

Reset: Reboots the controller.

The upper left button returns to the default screen.

BackLight level change

You can choose the backlight level of the controller from 1 (lowest) to 9 (highest).

The level is changed with the right buttons and validated with the lower left one.

The upper left button discards the change and return to the info/configuration screen.

The backlight is switched off after a time there is no activity in the controller and automatically switched on (at the configured level) when the user pushes a button or there is any change in the information shown.

5.3.7. Link error screen

If for any reason the data communication between the controller and the E41x decoder fails, the TMH60ENA will show this screen.

In this case, please, revise the data wire.

Chapter 6: Software In most applications, the ENA family of devices can be used without any other software, but in some cases a specific software is needed.

EQUITEL provides, by free, the application ENALite to control small installations with these features:

Can control up to 10 decoders.

Allow grouping the decoders in zones to sent same messages.

It can generate up to 6 ICEcast streams for background music. These streams can be published using a local ICEcast server installed with the application, or any other.

Generate up to 15 RTP streams for advertisements, using the computer microphone or audio files. Each stream is sent to a specific configured zone.

Generate a RTP stream for the emergency channel using the computer microphone or pre-recorded messages. The destination zone of the stream is chosen when used.

Also, we have created the sample application ENAControl for Android, that allows to control all the decoders in a LAN using the WIFI access.

These applications are created not only to be used installations, but as examples to help developers to build their own ones for specific projects.

For those projects where an application with specific characteristics is needed, EQUITEL can offer to create the application or, to give the information and support needed to create it. In this information, the source code of the above mentioned applications is included.
