A triangular post is needed for latitudes below 24°. Cut out to

correct height, fold on lines and tape together. Tape on to

triangle on dial base. Use guide on this sheet to mark the straw.

Print tem

plates on card stock or glue thinner paper on to cardboard. Glue the dial

faces together and tape to base using one of the layouts shown below

all triangles can be cut out and used as guides. Y

ou can attach the paper base to a piece of w

ood using tacks. Use a w

ood dowel or straw

, 3/16" in diameter or less,

to make the gnom

on. A second straw

can be inserted into the first if a longer one is needed. M

ark the straw length using the appropriate guide w

ith tape placed tow

ards the cross end. Cut the cross at the centre of the dial using a craft knife.

will fit

snuggly. P

ush the straw

through the back of dial plate until tape touches the dial. T

ape the straw from

the front. P

lace the end of the straw on the latitude line for your location. S

ecure the straw

with tape.

Place end of straw

ark straw at your latitude.

Mark this end of the straw

as it will be placed on the triangular post.

Select the correct dial layout for your location.

Print all pages at the same scale. Full scale is best. Do not

use "Fit to Page".
