NEW CHALLENGES AHEAD FOR NZTC INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

Hailing from southern China, Grace has moved to New Zealand to study a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) at the Auckland Campus and is ready to rise to the challenges that lie ahead.

“In my eyes, New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) is the cradle for early childhood educators who are professional and energetic. The College focuses on bilingual and multicultural education which is very important.”

After she graduates she wants to specialise in inclusive education and apply all she has learnt to her teaching practices.

“I hope in the future that I will get the opportunity to help children from all over the world including, of course, children from my own country.”

Grace Ye is embarking on a journey of a lifetime.

Grace has been in New Zealand for four months and enjoys hiking outdoors, as well as the simple laid-back lifestyle and the philosophies behind the education system.

“New Zealand students are encouraged to be creative, to develop their individual characteristics and develop freely.”

Grace was welcomed to the College during the July orientation where she faced her first challenge.

Daunted, but determined, she volunteered to speak at the pōhiri, a Māori welcome ceremony, to represent the new students.

“I wanted to speak because I knew it would be a challenge for most of the Asian students, including me, and I wanted to take that challenge and share our thoughts and feelings.”

With that challenge behind her, but many more to come, Grace is looking forward to being encouraged and guided by her lecturers to be an empowered early childhood educator.

20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE BEHIND NEW NZTC BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

The New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) Business Development Manager brings 20 years of experience marketing New Zealand education qualifications internationally to the role.

Originally from Christchurch, Christopher has recently returned to New Zealand with his wife after living in Tokyo, Japan for eight years and has travelled extensively in Asia and throughout the world. He is fluent in Japanese with a strong understanding of different cultures.

In past roles with other education providers, Christopher has promoted English language, business, and tourism and hospitality courses, but NZTC is his first time marketing early childhood education qualifications.

“Early childhood education is a very rewarding area to work in because you are providing training to teachers to educate young children. Those teachers play a very important role in society.”

In Seoul, Christopher will be attending the COEX Education Fair on October 1-2 as well as an Education New Zealand agent seminar on October 4.

In Tokyo, he will be representing NZTC at the Education New Zealand Fair, October 9, in the cultural hub of Roppongi Hills.

Christopher can be contacted directly while in Tokyo and Seoul. To set up an appointment eMail: [email protected]

Learning about the comprehensive New Zealand early childhood education curriculum framework Te Whariki has been enjoyable and Christopher believes it is one of New Zealand’s strengths that attracts international interest.

His goals are to share the benefits of studying with NZTC with more international students and enter into new global markets such as Korea and Japan.

Christopher will travel to Tokyo and Seoul to represent NZTC for the first time in late September.

Expanding into new markets will provide greater diversity within the classroom and within NZTC Online discussion forums adding depth to the learning experience says Christopher.

“From a teaching and class dynamics point of view it is much better to have a good mix of students to offer different perspectives for both our College based qualifications, as well as online.”

Christopher is looking forward to meeting with Educational Partners and prospective students interested in studying early childhood education either as an international student in New Zealand or from their home country via NZTC Global.

Christopher Handscomb may be the newest member of the International Team but he is no stranger to marketing qualifications to global markets.
