OUTREACH MINISTRY NEEDS YOU In years past, Epiphany’s Outreach Ministry has been financially supported through special events, fundrais-ers, and designated donations. Currently, our work supporting the community and the world (monthly Beans & Rice, Room in the Inn, the annual Rise Against Hunger meal-packing event, just to name a few) are not funded by the general budget of the church. The Outreach Ministry is seeking new and fresh ideas for how we fund this vital and important work, along with creative and energetic parishioners who seek to share their ideas and volunteer their time. Please join us on April 14th at 9:30am in Sanderson Hall for a discussion of the future of our Outreach Ministry.

This year, the month of April brings us to the conclusion of Lent, the journey through Holy Week, and the joy of Easter Day. Together we will continue our walk on the path of Christ. We will hear the two thousand year old story of Christ’s passion during the week of the Passover. We will join the disciples in the Upper Room for the Last Supper, and witness Jesus washing his disciples’ feet. We will stand shoulder-to-shoulder at the foot of the cross and see the depth of Jesus’ sacrifi-cial love. And finally, we will rejoice at the prospect of new life together in the resurrection. There is a curious dichotomy present in the idea of “new life in the resurrection.” We be-lieve that resurrection is something that happened in the past, but it is also something that continues to happen in the present. First, resurrection is something we celebrate as a historical event. Jesus lived, died, and was resurrected – that is the story of the Gospel and the basis of our faith. This is what we cele-brate in our annual commemoration of the Lent/Holy Week/Easter observances. But they are not just events that happened a “long, long time ago.” Resurrection is also something that can occur again and again in our own world and in our own lives, every day. This new life that Jesus offers us – through the example of his minis-try, the deep love he showed to and for the world, and his trust in his Heavenly Father – is something we can both experience and practice in the course of our daily lives. Like Jesus, we are also ministers of the good news of God’s love. We can be healers, teach-ers, and evangelists. We can feed the hungry, clothe the poor, care for the sick and suffer-ing, and work for justice and peace. Like Jesus, we can show love. We can follow the Great Commandment to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength and our neighbors as ourselves. We can even love our enemies, just as Jesus did. And like Jesus, we can trust that God is always present to us. Even in the midst of difficulty and hardship, God is always calling out to us and inviting us into an ever-deeper relationship of joy and peace. Together we will follow this path of life, death, and resurrection in the days to come this month. I pray that we may each be enriched both by reflecting on what Jesus has done for us, as well as what Jesus is doing for us even now. The “new life of the resurrection” we share now is the grace and blessing that God has pre-pared for us through the gift of his son Jesus. The Carol Jean Rives Forum for Spirituality invites you to join us for a special Lenten series at Epiph-any: Noonday Prayers, featuring a special guest preacher at each service. The service begins at 12:05 on four Tuesdays in Lent. Lunch will be available in Sanderson Hall and is also available "to go." Donations received for the cost of lunch will go to the Carol Jean Rives Forum for Spirituali-ty and its programs. EPIPHANY MIGRATION MINISTRY NEWS Epiphany Recognized as Early Partners in Welcome Member

Due to Epiphany’s continuing conversations, education classes, and gifts

to Episcopal Migration Ministries and Bridge Refugee Services, we have

been recognized as a “charter” member of Partners in Welcome (PiW).

What is Partners in Welcome? It is a network of individuals, groups, and

organizations coming together to build a community of support and soli-

darity for welcoming newcomers to our country.

PiW offers its members the opportunity to access an online community

where activities, announcements, calendar events, and resources can be

shared, all with the goal of welcoming refugees to the United States.

Our membership as a congregation affords this access to our own individual members for participation. Please see Partners in Welcome for more information and instructions for becoming a part of this important ministry.

MONDAY MORNING BOOK STUDY BEGINS NEW BOOK

As we finish Accidental Saints by Nadia Bolz-Weber on Monday, April 1, we’ve chosen our next book:

Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time: The Historical Jesus and the Heart of Contemporary Faith, by Mar-

cus J. Borg.

This is Borg’s seminal work on his search for the historic Jesus. It was published in 1994. It is available as

an Audible book, on Kindle devices, and in paperback. Here is an excerpt:

For many, the childhood image of Jesus remains intact into adulthood. For

some, that image is held with deep conviction, sometimes linked with warm personal devotion and some-

times tied to rigid doctrinal positions. For others, both within and outside of the church, the childhood

image of Jesus can become a problem, producing perplexity and doubt, often leading to indifference to-

ward or rejection of the religion of their childhood.

Indeed, for many Christians, especially in mainline churches, there came a time when their child-

hood image of Jesus no longer made a great deal of sense. And for many of them, no persuasive alterna-

tive has replaced it. It is for these people especially that this book is written. For them meeting Jesus

again will be—as it was for me—like meeting him for the first time. It will involve a new image of Jesus. (p. 1)

As I hope you can tell, this will be an exciting journey. We will begin our discussion of this book on Monday, April 8.

NOW COLLECTING EASTER CANDY

It takes a lot of candy to fill hundreds of plastic eggs! Please consider donating a bag or two of candy for the Easter egg hunt. We are currently collecting can-dy donations. Each piece of candy should be individually wrapped and should be small enough to fit inside a plastic egg. Please place candy in the bins marked "Easter candy" located in the church office and Sanderson Hall. The egg hunt may not be until April 21st, but we need time to fill all of the

EYC Trip to Sewanee

April 7, 2019

Our Episcopal Youth Community (EYC), grades 8-12,

will be traveling to Sewanee Tennessee to explore

the campus. We will meet at Epiphany at 8:30a.m.

We will attend the 11:00a.m. service at All Saints

Chapel, have lunch in the dining hall, explore Abbo’s

Alley ravine garden, the Memorial Cross and other

points of interest along the way. Youth should wear

casual clothes appropriate to attend the service,

shoes appropriate for walking and light hiking, and

bring a jacket. Please bring a refillable water bottle

and a snack. We should arrive back at Epiphany be-

tween 5:30 and 6:00p.m.

The Wednesday VYP program is using Legos to ex-

plore the Bible. If you have any extra Legos, Lego

compatible bricks or Lego mini figures around your

home, please consider donating them to the VYP pro-

gram.

NOTE: We are using the regular Lego size not the

larger Duplo size. Thank you!
