Team Prompt & ApproachPrompt: I am a design manager for Juvederm within the cosmetic industry, and I want to compete with the rising trend of surgical and professional procedures. We chose to use epigenetics, the study of how internal and external environ-ments can change genetic expression, as our approach to offer solutions for correcting the aging process.

Team EpiGenetics• The Elemental Android:

As our cultural aesthetic becomes more attracted to machine-like perfection, we are restructuring our personal physiology. We are healthcare hobbyists turned bio-hackers, acting as scientist and specimen, opening our bodies to be rebuilt on a molecular level.

• The Extrinsic Organism: Bio-hacking innovators who tend to focus on macro-oriented analysis take an extrinsic approach to biological elevation. This fo-cuses on external influenc-es and far-reaching shifts in behavioral attitudes, where large scale changes produce physical results.

The Elemental Android Genetic Reprogram:• According to The Guardian, turning traits on or off in

the DNA sequence though gene therapy technology can alter an individual’s health, size, or other factors- creating his or her own personalized machine.

Hormone Rebalance:• According to Spectrum Magazine, hormones can

now be calibrated to individual systems through a bionic pancreas, which is a microchip. This prevent blood glucose from dropping, helping to fight diabetes from a micro-molecular level.

Optogenetic Medic: • According to Scientific American, scientists are

replacing tissues with synthetic cell lipids in order increase tissue visibility in brain scans. This technique helps human tissues to be seen with higher clarity, at extremely close-up levels.

The Extrinsic OrganismBio-hacking innovators who tend to focus on macro-oriented analysis take an extrinsic approach to biological elevation. This focuses on external influences and far-reaching shifts in behavioral attitudes, where large scale changes produce physical results.

The Extrinsic Organism Nutrigenomics:• According to Science Daily, the molecular structure

of certain foods affects an individual’s DNA expres-sion. Therefore, consumption of certain foods could lessen the chance of outward hereditary disease.

Radical Atomization:• According to Mercury News, scientists have

introduced a machine, called a mass spectrometer, which is designed to “catch” free radicals, which are harmful ionized atoms caused by high levels of pollution, and remove them from the body.

The Quantified Sleeper: • According to Prevention.com, studies illustrated the

impact of “pink noise” on sleep cycles. Pink noise is acheived when every octave of a sound carries the same power. 75% of study participants had more restful sleep when exposed.

Implications• Could there be a topical lotion that utilizes somatic gene

therapy, introducing DNA at a dermal level to change gene expres-sion rather than outward appearance, with permanent results?

• Could Juvederm introduce a cosmetic that focuses on infusing hormonal agents, via the derma, in order to stimulate certain body functions that combat aging, ie: collegen production or cell elastic-

• Could there be a topical solution intro that mimics the production methods of human stem cells, where cell regeneration is enouraged by the introduction of synthetic tissues and engineered cell systems?

Team EpiGenetics

Implications• Could a cosmetic be introduced that works in tandem with an

individual’s diet and daily habits, in order to create a personalized product that reacts to individual biology?

• Could there be a cosmetic that utilizes synthetic biology principles- ie: a product that focuses on the restructuring and redesign of the various compounds within the body itself?

• Could Juvederm introuce a topical solution that works to reduce free radicals within the body by introducing various hormonal com-binations, which eliminate the oxidation process that occurs when free radicals are left in living tissues.

Team EpiGenetics

Implications• Could Juvederm introduce of a topical solution that responds to an

individual’s genetic signature to create the most effective changes to his or her own body chemistry and external appearance?

• Could there be a cosmetic product introduced that focuses on the filtration of pollutants and irritants by flushing impurities out of skin as well as shielding skin from atmospheric toxins?

• Could there be the introduction of a cosmetic solution that restores the nutrients that skin normally gets from adequate sleep and low stress levels, by injecting high doses of said nutrients into the dermal layers, like a fast-acting “energy shot” for skin cells?
