It was nine months ago that Vision 2020 was kicked off and fifty-five small groups began meeting. The Coordinating Team has worked diligently to listen for God’s leading in discerning both “who God is call- ing us to be as a church family” and “what we believe our Lord is calling us to do.” Pending Session approval, the plan is to begin sharing descriptive “scenarios” that convey pictures of Eastminster in the year 2020. Dear Eastminster Family,

Scholar N.T. Wright observes that the hope and joy of the resurrection should be claimed and lived out after Easter as intentionally as our Lenten activities prepare us for Christ’s suffering and sacrifice on the cross leading up to Easter. Reflecting on Wright’s observation, how fitting it was yes-terday, on the first Sunday after Easter, to celebrate as thirty-three young people responded to God’s grace by standing and proclaiming Jesus Christ as

their Lord and Savior.

Looking ahead, the resurrection power of Easter will be manifest among us in several ways during the coming weeks. This Sunday, a brief Congregational Meeting after 11:15 a.m. wor-ship in the sanctuary will include electing our Officer Nominating Committee and receiving the 2012 Annual Review, which provides snapshots of God’s work in our midst this past year.

In the coming weeks, two significant undertakings will come to the fore in the life of our church. First, we will begin receiving the Vision 2020 Report. It was nine months ago that Vision 2020 was kicked off and fifty-five small groups began meeting. The Coordinating Team has worked diligently to listen for God’s leading in discerning both “who God is call-ing us to be as a church family” and “what we believe our Lord is calling us to do.” Pending Session approval, the plan is to begin sharing descriptive “scenarios” that convey pictures of Eastminster in the year 2020. These word pictures will be shared in worship and elsewhere even as finishing touches are applied to the report.

In addition to the Vision 2020 report, our “Toward 2020” Capital Campaign is being rolled out. Just before Lent, we talked briefly about the need to update and upgrade our worship spaces, especially the sanctuary. By the time you receive this Update, your mailbox should have produced a “Toward 2020” brochure summarizing the specifics of this campaign. As surely as the men and women who gathered here in the 1950s were given the privilege of in-vesting in a worship space that would impact future generations for the Gospel, so you and I have the opportunity to join in God’s work through this effort to enhance this church campus for those who will follow us.

Below are several important dates. Please put them on your calendar. The living God is at work in our midst. Let’s join in the joy!

Officer Nominations for 2016One of our greatest privileges and responsibilities at Eastminster is the elec-

tion of church officers. Your input is an essential and critical part of the process by which the Nominating Team puts forth its recommendations to the congre-gation.

It is time to prayerfully consider people you feel can be entrusted with the lead-ership decisions of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Consider people who love the Lord, have encouraging spirits, mature faith, Bible knowledge, and hearts for service and gifts for ministry. Our rich heritage as Presbyterians has given us a representative form of government. The Book of Order states that church offi-cers “…should be persons of strong faith, dedicated discipleship, and love of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel in the church and in the world.”

Please submit names by using an Officer Nomination Form. If you have not received one of these in the mail, email Carol ([email protected]) and she will send you one, or pick one up when you are at the church. please return

your forms to Carol Sutton by April 16. You may submit as many names as you would like.
