The patrol conducted on 10/22/2010 by the guard of the

Wildlife Refuge of “Barra del Colorado” demonstrated:

1. Sediments produced by the dredging operations carried out by the

Government of Nicaragua, have been deposited in the wetland

2. An indiscriminate deforestation and elimination of the understory,

affecting the primary forest in an area of 5.75 hectares (197 felled

trees), altering the equilibrium state of the wetland.

3. Possible construction of an artificial Canal between the San Juan

River, the Portillos Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea, attempts against

the ecosystem of the entire area.

list of the Convention on Wetlands of International

Importance, called the Ramsar Convention,

on March 20, 1996
