Almost 30 years ago 3M scien-tists developed a product whichwould effectively protect build-ing entrances from dirt. The firstNomad matting product with itsrevolutionary vinyl “coiledloops” was developed.Incorporating carpet fibre tech-nology, 3M widely expanded itsentrance matting range over theyears, and today, thanks to con-stant innovation and expertise, afull line is available from alu-minium framed matting to textilefloor coverings.

As demand increases for newarchitectural design concepts,Nomad matting products are nowavailable with an updated imageand in contemporary colours.3M, assisted by external designconsultants, have developed thecolours, finishes and patterns toensure that the range comple-ments surrounding fixtures andfittings.

Nomad Aqua matting range

Nomad Aqua matting technologyfrom 3MPatented in 1989, the dual-fibretechnology for tufted textile car-peting was an innovation. Theaim was to produce a high per-formance textile matting, capableof removing fine dirt and mois-ture at the same time and in amore efficient manner than con-ventional carpet style matting.

• The yarn was tufted by com-bining 2 fibres: a large denierfibre to scrape fine dirt andsmall denier fibres to absorbwater.

• 3 different patterns are nowavailable, according to designand performance needs:striped pattern for low traffic,checked pattern for medium

traffic, and a random patternfor high and extreme traffic.

• 2 types of materials are used:polyamide and polypropylene.The prior providing resistancefor high and extreme trafficconditions and the latter beingmore suitable for medium tolow traffic conditions.

• All products are tufted in aloop pile construction provid-ing excellent dirt removal andretention. This unique con-struction helps ensure that dirtremains hidden and is notretracked into the building.

The following checklist offers guidance when considering the best 3M entrance matting solu-tion for your needs;

Estimate the traffic volumes crossing the matting each day: • < 500 Low traffic• 500 – 1500 Medium traffic• 1500 – 5000 High traffic• > 5000 Extreme traffic

Identify the dirt tracked in:• Soil • Moisture• Snow• Salt• Oil• Others:

Product Performance Life

If Nomad matting is correctlypositioned for use and traffic,and maintained according to 3Mmaintenance and cleaning proce-dures, the matting can be expect-ed to offer a typical performancelife of 5 years (except NomadTerra 6050 and Nomad Aqua4000 matting for which a typicalperformance life of 3 years canbe expected).
