The new A/W 2014 collection by Lee Broom entitled Nouveau Rebel is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the cultural associations of marble, the collections core material.
A stone favoured by the traditional art world and also the nouveau riche, Nouveau Rebel explores the tipping point between these two worlds, creating contemporary products that use the material in new ways whilst referencing 1980s styling and traditional production methods.
Lee Brooms collections juxtapose design cues and materials: the old and the new, the tough and the delicate, the heavy and the light weight. Nouveau Rebel is no exception as traditional materials such as Italian Carrara marble and hand-blown lead crystal are fused together to create contemporary and original lighting, glassware and accessories.

A seemingly solid half-sphere of Carrara marble is topped by a dome of lead crystal. This 40cm diameter table lamp creates a robust presence yet emits a beautiful light from a LED bulb set inside the base. This shines through the thin marble top, illuminating the unique patterns of the stone and casting an upward glow.

Housing a sculptural Carrara marble diffuser within a lead crystal vessel, Chamber expresses the unexpected translucent qualities of marble in a compelling decorative pendant. With its gentle luminosity and directional downlight, Chamber is available in two sizes & lends itself to being hung in clusters as well as individually.

A re-imagining of the original crystal version, this new Fulcrum edition employs pure Carrara marble to produce a monolithic take on the modern candlestick. The small Fulcrum is 30 centimetres tall and the large 40 centimetres.
T U B E
Skillfully milled from a single piece of Carrara marble and finished at each end with bands of brushed brass, Tube contains a strip of LED bulbs resulting in what appears to be a solid length of warm glowing stone. The unique veins of each piece of marble mean no two lights are exactly the same. A handcrafted twist on the traditional fluorescent tubelight.

Lee Broom designs, manufactures and retails his own label products and designs unique interiors.
The importance of the manufacturing process is integral to Brooms philosophy. A supporter of British manufacturing techniques, Broom works closely with specialist traditional craftsman from the initial concept to final production runs.
Since starting his own label in 2007, he has launched numerous furniture and lighting collections, designed over 45 retail, restaurant and bar interiors and has won more than 20 awards. He has won four British Design Awards including the prestigious Designer of the Year for 2012 and Design of the Year in 2013 for the acclaimed Crystal Bulb light.
Having started out in theatre school - a beginning which has greatly influenced the sense of drama and narrative that his collections create - Brooms career took a change of direction after he won a fashion design competition at the age of 17. This led him to meet and then go onto work for the legendary designer Vivienne Westwood, after which he studied for a degree in fashion design at Central St Martins.
Lee Broom products are now retailed in stores in over 35 countries. His meteoric success has seen him dubbed the pin up of British manufacturing by The Times and The Guardian has commented: Lee Broom is to furniture what Marc Jacobs or Tom Ford are to fashion and the Financial Times said he is among the most respected British talents.
