Enrolment Procedure How to enrol:

1. Complete Application Form (one form for each student)

2. Return Application Form together with:

Birth Certificate

Immunization records (for Kindergarten students only)

2 most recent school reports

NAPLAN results if applicable (Year 3, 5, 7 or 9)

Court orders / parenting agreement if applicable

$100 application fee

3. Upon processing, a receipt will be issued and returned to you with a covering letter.

4. If the enrolment is for the current year (and a place is available) you will be contacted for an enrolment interview at which time both the student and parents attend. It will be necessary to supply the latest copy of school report at the interview if not already supplied with the Application Form.

5. If the enrolment is for the following year, enrolment interviews will commence during Term 1.

6. If enrolment is for future years, you will be contacted the year prior to commencement for an enrolment interview.

7. The interview will be held with the Dean or Head of College.

8. Within two weeks of the interview, a letter will be sent advising if a place is being offered.

9. If a place is offered, the letter will request that an Enrolment Contract be completed and returned together with an Enrolment Bond paid within 14 days to secure the position. The bond is refundable as per the Fees Policy. The Fees Policy will be issued with the Enrolment Contract. A receipt will then be issued. Once the Bond and completed Enrolment Contract have been received by the college, the enrolment is confirmed.

10. If the place is being offered for the following year, an information pack including uniform price

lists, stationery lists etc will be forwarded in Term 4.

11. It is school policy that any sibling students wishing to enrol will be given priority on any waiting lists. However, siblings are not automatically enrolled. Parents need to complete an application form for each sibling, attend an enrolment interview and complete an enrolment contract for each child.

Subject levies may apply to some subjects in Years 10 – 12. There is a $50 refundable deposit payable for book hire in Year 7 or for a new student in Years 8-12. Playgroup Playgroup is held each Thursday and Friday morning during school term time from 8.30am to 10.30am in the Junior School. Children aged from birth to school age are most welcome to attend with parents, carers or other family members. There is a joining of $25 per family and then the cost is $7 per family each session. Playgroup provides a safe environment which enables your child to play with other children and participate in new play experiences whilst increasing their social and communication skills. Children attending Playgroup develop new friendships and learn simple rules and routines which assist with the transition into Kindy and Prep in future years. Playgroup also provides an opportunity for parents and caregivers to share ideas, information and experiences. Kindergarten – book early to avoid disappointment! Our rich and diverse Curriculum is built around exploring the Foundation Learning Areas of Thinking, Communication, Sense of Self and Others, Social Living and Learning, Health and Physical Understanding, Cultural Understanding and Understanding Environments. Canterbury College Kindergarten is government approved Kindergarten and a registered care facility. Each Kindergarten class has a maximum number of students with a full time teacher and teacher aide. Actual classroom hours are from 8.30am to 3.15pm however, the annual fee also covers Before School Care from 6.45am and After School Care (including afternoon tea) to 6.00pm. Vacation Care is available but subject to availability as there is a minimum number of students required to attend each day in order to offer the Vacation Care program. Part time and Full time positions are available in Kindergarten. There are two part time options available. Option 1 – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Option 2 - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Two Year Kindergarten Option Please note that enrolment into Kindergarten for 2 years, followed by Prep, is now an option available to you. In order to attend Kindergarten for 2 years, children must be aged 3 prior to commencement and fully toilet trained. Please ask our Enrolments Officer for further information.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Our Bring Your Own Device Program supports students in using their own personal technology in the classroom. Students today learn in very different ways, in comparison to previous generations. Our students, have been referred to as digital natives and have grown up in a technology rich world. Their life is consumed by vast amounts of multimedia. This is how they share, communicate, interact and access the information they want. All students should bring their own computing device (BYOD) for learning in Years 4-12 in 2016. Many students have a computer now (Windows or Mac compatible devices), which will still be viable in 2016. Devices with the capacity of Windows 8.1, 4GB RAM and a recommended battery life of six hours should still meet student’s needs in 2016. We emphasise that many devices currently being used will meet requirements in 2016 and that it is not an expectation that parents go out and purchase new devices.

To assist those families who are upgrading, we offer the following information. New Devices Years 4-12

Windows 10 convertible with Stylus (Technical Specifications – i5 or i7, SSD, 4Gb RAM and recommended battery life of 6 hours)

Students in Years 11 and 12 Graphics, IPT and Film and TV Students will have access to College computer labs, appropriate software and hardware. However, if families with students in these senior subjects are planning to purchase new devices, 8GB RAM is suggested. Studio Program Canterbury College is an amazing place for your children to grow - and to meet their potential in so many different ways. One of the most integrated ways Canterbury supports student development outside the classroom is through the Studio Program. The Studio Program has 20 specialist music, dance and speech, drama and communication teachers who deliver individual and shared lessons. Our Studio Teachers engage their students within a supportive atmosphere that encourages every child to develop and meet their artistic potential. Some key questions and answers:

When do students have their lessons?

The Studio Program sits within the curriculum offerings of the College with lessons being

delivered throughout the school day.

In the majority of cases students have their lessons during the school day on a rotating

timetable. For example, this week the lessons might be at 9.00am, next week at 10.30am, the

following week at 12.00pm, then 1.30pm etc. cycling through the school day. This allows

students to remain fully engaged in their subjects while being extended through studio lessons.

All class teachers receive the weekly studio schedule and are able to support students as

needed.

How are lesson times communicated?

Students will have the next lesson time stamped in their school diary, parents will receive an

email on the Friday of the preceding the week advising of the lesson time, and the time is also

posted outside the studio music wing.

Studio teachers will collect students who forget their studio lessons and teach them for the

remainder of their lesson time. Students in K to Year 2 will be collected from, and taken back

to, their class as part of the lesson.

Parents also receive regular updates on how their child is progressing.

How much do lessons cost and how do I pay?

Individual lessons cost $31.00 per lesson, and paired lessons cost $16.50 per lesson. The

lessons are billed with your School Fees account towards the end of each term

Which instruments are available?

All, except didgeridoo (although it could be arranged).

The main instruments we’re currently most keen for students to learn are Flute, Clarinet,

Trumpet and Trombone

How much practice will students need to do?

Taking a studio lesson is to be considered the same as all other classes in that there is

homework, which we call practice.

Depending on the desired rate of progress, students will practice between 10 minutes four

times a week and about two hours six days a week. The latter times are for those students

looking to study music after Year 12.

For most students, 15-20 minutes, four or five times a week will result in good progress.
