ENROLLING AT ST PAUL’S

At this most unusual of times, when we are not free to gather and communicate in the customary ways, our Enrolments team continues to progress the enrolment of families for 2021 and beyond.

We are a strong, resilient community at St Paul’s and our students and families can count on us to provide certainty and routine in this challenging time. Every year of a child’s education is an important developmental stage and we will continue to make sure that these milestones and achievements are met. We must all remind ourselves that the pandemic and social restrictions are temporary, and we will ‘come out the other side’ and return to normal sometime in the future.

At St Paul’s, we are all eagerly looking forward to welcoming our new students for 2021 and beyond, and to your children joining us in their respective transition programs. These programs are comprehensive and are the foundation underpinning our excellent pastoral care offering.

Please rest assured that while we may need to alter the scheduling of some of our events this year, we will be conducting our transition programs with as little change as possible.

We know that as we move into the future a quality education will continue to be the greatest gift any parent can give their child, and in fact, many of you are already increasing your commitment to your child’s education by providing supervision and support as they experience this period of remote learning. We hope that you will look back on this experience as one where family ties are strengthened and time for reflection is found.

The commitment of our St Paul’s community to quality education has never wavered, and we thank you all for your patience as we navigate our path through these unprecedented times.

Mr Cameron Herbert Principal

STAYING OPEN TO SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITYSt Paul’s continues to provide supervision of children from Prep through to Year 9 when children cannot be cared for at home. Our Before and After School Care programs are continuing as normal, at both campuses for families who require this service, to provide additional support to our families.

Our Early Learning Centres also continue to operate as normal, with all students enrolled for Pre-Kinder and Pre-Prep able to attend their normal place of learning.

Although many things have changed over the past weeks, we continue to prepare as we would normally by enrolling those children who are keen to attend St Paul’s in 2021. As such, our Enrolments team continues to process applications, using altered methods of communication where required.

The Enrolments team is preparing to welcome our new families for 2020, 2021 and beyond, and while we cannot under the current restrictions conduct our usual enrolment events, we will be in further contact with you to progress your child’s enrolment.

To guide you in this process, please find below an outline of the actions we will be taking to progress enrolments during this time:

Year 7 2021 Transitioning from Year 6 into Year 7 is an exciting time for every child. This includes:

• Student interviews, which will be conducted either via video link or in person, as required according to the level of social restrictions in place at the time.

• A Friendship Morning in Term 3 will provide the first opportunity for the Year 7 2021 cohort to come together.

• Our three-day Orientation Program in Term 4 ensures students become accustomed to St Paul’s, forming connections and friendships, and feel relaxed, confident and connected for their leap into secondary school.

The Enrolments team will confirm dates of Transition Program events with our future families, as event planning resumes normal operations.

As we are currently preparing our next round of Year 7 2021 offers; if you have not already done so, please submit your child’s enrolment application or contact our Enrolments team as soon as possible.

REMOTE LEARNING AND ENROLLING AT ST PAUL’S

Heightened levels of anxiety may be common in the community and especially for our children in times of uncertainty. When face to face contact is missing and we find ourselves communicating online, teachers at St Paul’s have readily replaced their real-life pastoral contact with students in a range of ways that are tailored appropriately to the age of students.

Staff are connecting every morning with ELC and Junior School students through digital platforms, welcoming students and providing an outline of learning plans for the day. Regular wellbeing check-ins are being conducted for all students to assist staff with identifying any issues for follow up by Pastoral Care staff.

Secondary School students are enjoying a virtual classroom, with a full timetable, the roll marked and daily messages via videoconferences being provided. Each Head of Year and Head of School is in weekly contact with their students. Wellbeing surveys are also undertaken regularly online by Pastoral Care staff. Regular Assembly, Chapel and Pastoral Care activities are placed online, and parents and students have staff readily available should they have any concerns.

The St Paul’s Counselling team will continue to support our students and their families, making referrals and conducting their usual range of services via telephone.

A useful tool for assisting with any fear and anxiety in young children around the COVID-19 pandemic can be found in the form of this free e-book written by one of our ELC Educators, ‘Don’t walk your cat, and other advice for a worried kid’. Superbly illustrated, this story provides practical, achievable and sometimes humorous strategies to help reduce anxiety for the whole family. In accordance with statements by the Victorian Government, during Term 2 any student who can learn from home must learn from home. As events and advice constantly changed during March and April, St Paul’s maintained regular contact with our school community and demonstrated our ability to deliver an outstanding online curriculum to our students for an extended period, should this be necessary.

We are fully aware that the uncertainty around completion of the school year, at whatever level a child is studying, is heightening anxiety in many of our students and parents. As such, we are providing a range of initiatives to support our students as they work toward completion of their current year of studies or work toward graduation.

St Paul’s students and staff have adapted quickly to the new rules and online learning environment from ELC through to Year 12. Our standard of educational excellence continues during the move to online delivery with our teachers adapting their delivery mode with creativity and a commitment to ensure the continuity of learning for our students. St Paul’s is very well placed to ensure that our students get the very best education online. Our teaching staff have made adjustments to individual student programs to support children emotionally, as well as academically, through this period of adjustment to a new learning environment.

We have also implemented an expanded Parent Forum on our portal MyStPauls, a designated one-stop-shop for information and a forum where parents can correspond in a safe and respectful way. All COVID-19 updates, messages from the Heads of School, along with tips and tricks for getting us through these trying times, are uploaded regularly. Parents can also use this space to make comments, ask general questions and easily access their Head of School.

The staff of St Paul’s are proud of how our students have quickly embraced remote learning with commitment and enthusiasm.

MYSTPAULS LEADING THE WAY IN ONLINE LEARNING

Here at St Paul’s we have been using an online learning management system called MyStPauls for the past several years and your child’s current school will most likely be using something similar. MyStPauls and videoconferencing combine to offer exciting educational benefits for all of our students from ELC through to Year 12. To keep all parties safe online while using these technologies, the School has developed an Online Learning for Students and Parents Policy which can be requested by emailing [email protected]

In the meantime, you can help your children to make the most of their online learning by:

• Setting up a structured and quiet learning environment for your children.

• Making your expectations clear that your children do all they can to keep up with the work set by teachers.

• Ensuring that your children are online when designated by their teachers or the school timetable.

• Reminding your children to interact responsibly and in line with School Policies and set boundaries during this time.

• Trying to accept that learning may be disrupted from time to time for various reasons and that remaining positive and physically well are perhaps the most important things to be focusing on.

TIPS TO ASSIST YOUR CHILD IN THEIR ONLINE LEARNING

ENROLLING AT ST PAUL’S

“I just wanted to thank you for setting up an amazing learning experience for our kids. I was

surprised to see how easy it was to work it all out. The videos were great, Hunter loved the reading

program etc and you being available through the social stream was fantastic. Feeling very lucky that our kids go to St Paul’s at this time as I don’t think all parents have had the level of communication

and lesson planning that our kids have had. Not to mention it being done under pressure

and in such a short space of time!“

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2021

We are aware of the significant economic impact occurring across our community, and we understand that some families are experiencing changing financial circumstances as the impact of employment, business and carer obligations become known. We are currently considering the ways we can support enrolling families through this period and, if required, will offer an extended acceptance period and payment terms.
