On the occasion of the launch of the Edureach Newsletter, I would like to congratulate each and every one of you on the wonderful work you have been doing by ushering in a digital learning revolution in underserved schools across the country, including some of the most remote and difficult regions.

This newsletter is an important milestone in our journey. It will serve as a platform to share experiences, learnings and best practices from across regions and geographies and provide a channel for internal communication and feedback. Above all, it will play an important role in making us a closer knit entity with common values of performance ethics.

As Edureach nears the 20,000 school mark, I look forward to your continued support and commitment to take forward this revolution to more and more schools across India each year.

In this issue we have tried to give you a peep into the activities and achievements of Edureach - the PPP & ICT division of Educomp Solutions Ltd. The world today is that of globalization and digital innovation. A student of today, when he or she moves into the world outside the four walls of the school finds technology being used in every sphere of life. It gives us immense satisfaction when we see the passion for learning that we are able to ignite amongst the students.

Introduction We are aware that with the amendment of our constitution in 1976, Education has come to concurrent list and that Union Government and State Governments share their responsibilities on Education. Government of India has set up many committees from time to time to bring reformation in the Education System of the country. If we look into the School education system, National Policy of Education 1986 is reckoned as a catalyst of change in recent times. It proposed that National Curriculum framework should be a means to evolve National System of Education based on the vision of National Development as enshrined in the constitution. Following the National Policy of Education 86(NPE 86), Programme of Action 1992(POA-1992) focused on quality of education-

relevant and flexible education. Then came the Prof. Yashpal committee report 'Learning Without Burden'. Following which National Curriculum framework for School Education was brought out by NCERT in 2000. Now the latest : A National steering committee with Prof. Yashpal as chairman was set up in 2004 with 21 National Focus groups with eminent members drawn from academia, NGOs, Industry, Teaching community and others. The report which came out of this is referred as National Curriculum Framework 2005(NCF 2005).

NCF 2005 on ICT NCF 2005 distinguishes between IT curriculum and Computer Science Curriculum. While

through Information Technology Curriculum, children learn IT Tools to use technology for their advantage, Computer Science trains children on the process of creation of tools. Both of these are essential to be taught at school stage.

We have to address the infrastructure (ICT) challenges seriously and explore viable and innovative alternatives with reference to hardware, software and connectivity in schools.

There is a need to develop a comprehensive and coherent curriculum model in IT and Computer Science.

Technology has to be integrated with the larger goals and processes of educational programmes rather than as isolated ones or add-ons.

Teaching Learning at varied paces and self learning are possible from the use of technology. Technological use should not turn the teachers and students as mere consumers and technology

operators. Interactions and intimacy are key factors to quality education.

We at Edureach…..NCF 2005 document has touched every aspect of curriculum development. Teaching for construction of Knowledge and Designing Learning experiences, Assessment, Text Books, Quality Issues… much more! We at Edureach have been putting the recommendations to practice while improving our ICT Teaching Learning experiences through trainings with a dose of Pedagogy, by moving to objective based evaluation system, and by improving our courseware bringing student to center stage and connecting his experience outside school in his learning in the class rooms. TMschools in India. Educomp executes projects on turnkey basis involving setting up and running computer aided education Programs in schools. We have made computer aided education accessible to the remotest locations across the country by introducing multimedia content and by providing IT infrastructure in schools. We have brought about a transformation in the teaching-learning processes by empowering teachers and encouraging students to acquire knowledge and gain clarity of concept through use of ICT.

Edureach has created content in regional languages for these projects. The content created is a combination of Computer literacy and curriculum based content. The topics selected for the content creation are such that the concepts are best explained using multimedia, developed to be interesting and interactive.

Computer Aided Learning (CAL)Using CAL methods, students understand difficult topics in an interesting manner through audio visual aids. The teacher's are also benefited in a way that they can improve their teaching and learning skills by delivering our module contents and supporting our course using computers and Information Technology. This interactivity provided by CAL is effectively used in bridging the gap between active learning and passive reaching.

Computer Education programEdureach executes turnkey projects for setting up and running computer education programs in schools.Edureach supplies the entire computer hardware, software and consumables. Edureach also provides teachers who run the program in schools. The contract is in the nature of a Build-Own-Operate- Transfer (BOOT) arrangement,

The Launch of Edureach Documentary Movie“THE INDIA STORY” is the story of children from the India beyond the metros, beyond the glitz, glamour and affluence of the cities children from the humblest of socio-cultural, and socio economic backgrounds. Some whose parents have never been to school, some, who find it a struggle to keep their children in school because it means one helping hand short to make ends meet. Our greatest satisfaction comes from our private-public partnership projects… and computer aided learning projects that we have helped implement in government schools across the country… the sense of satisfaction that comes from the feeling that we are also doing our bit to change lives of these children for the better.

Partnering with the Department of Rural Development, Uttar Pradesh

th TM On 10 December 2008 MOU was signed between Educomp and Rural Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh to impart training on skills development to one member of each BPL (Below Poverty Line) family, thereby making them employable. This would be impacting close to 10 million BPL families of Uttar Pradesh

Partnering with UNICEF Guwahati

Educomp Solutions Ltd and UNICEF, Guwahati has signed a Special Service Agreement on December, 2008 to facilitate ICT in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas [KGBVs] to Enhance Girls Learning Levels in Assam. It is envisaged to make the KGBVs centres of learning excellence where the most deprived girls are given the opportunity to realize their potentials. Being residential schools, the KGBVs have the girls as a captive group throughout the day. This makes it possible to incorporate different activities in their daily routine that will complement to improve the standards of learning opportunities and self-development. At present the programme has been running successfully in 15 KGBVs wherein 750 adolescent girls are enrolled.

Training for Jail Inmates, Hazaribagh

The Computer basic training for the inmates of Hazaribagh Jail is a pilot Project under our CSR Activity. The mandate is to conduct short term training on Computer Basics for the inmates of the Jail. The engagement include setting up a lab in the Jail premises with 10 computer systems & providing a faculty to conduct the training. After the completion of training Educomp will also provide a participation Certificate. The training schedule has been planned in consultation with the Jail Authorities - twice or thrice per week - 3 hour session per day. Total training ( 45 hours) is being covered in one month/ 45 days.
