The 2008 Farm Bill directed all states to develop a statewide assessment and strategy of forest resources. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry led this effort in Tennessee along with multiple government agencies and non-governmental organizations. It was a priority to establish this as a compliment to other state agency plans such as the TWRA Wildlife Action Plan and TDEC’s Recreation Plan.

The focus of Tennessee’s assessment and strategy was on maintaining water

quality and quantity through forest conservation.
