ENGLISH STORIES
1.The Golden Goose
Once upon a time a man had a goose. This goose laid a golden egg every day. But the man
was not happy with one egg each day. He wanted to have all the golden eggs at once. So he killed
the goose to get all the golden eggs. But on looking inside the goose he found nothing. Through
greediness he lost both his goose and her golden eggs for ever.
Moral - Patient is a great virtue.
2. Bruno Gets Lost
Once there was a boys called Bruno. He went to a supermarket with his mother. It was very
crowded. Bruno forgot to hold the hand of his mother. He got so excited after seeing the toys that
his mother went in front and Bruno was left behind. After some time, when he realised that he was
away from his mother, he started crying loudly. His mother heard his voice and come to him. Mother
told Bruno that small children should always be with their parents.
Moral- Children should always listen to their parents.
3. The Garden Fairy
Once there was a girl called Tina. She was very naughty. She had a very bad habit of plucking
the flowers from the garden. Her mother used to scold her daily for this habit. One day she was
plucking flowers from the garden suddenly, a garden fairy appeared. Tina got scared. The fairy told
that if someone pinches you, you feel the pain. Tina said yes. In the same manner plants also feel the
pain Tina felt bad. From that day, she promised herself not to hurt anyone.
Moral- We should not pluck the flowers.
4. The Peacock and the Crane
The peacock was very vain. He always boasted about his beautiful looks. Everyday he would
go to the bank of a river. He would stand there and admire his own reflection in the water. One day
the peacock saw a crane on the bank. He looked at it and turned his face away. Then he rudely said
to the crane, “What a colourless bird you are! Your feathers looks so plain and dull.”
The crane said, “Your feathers are surely beautiful mine are not. But so What? With your
feathers you cannot fly very high, while my feathers can carry me high up in the sky.
Moral - Usefulness is Better than mere beauty.
5. The Crooked Tree
In a forest there was a crooked tree. Its trunk and branches were odd shaped. All the other
trees around were straight and shapely. The crooked tree looked at them and said, “How fine and
straight they are.”
One day a woodcutter came to the forest. He looked at the crooked tree and said, “ This tree
is absolutely useless for me.” He selected all the fine and straight trees and cut them down.
Thereafter the crooked tree never felt sad for its ugliness. In fact its ugliness had saved it
from the axe of the woodcutter.
Moral - Be happy with what you are.
