Page 9: English Language, English Literature and Media School

Task 1 - Client Requirements (0.5 - 1 Hour) Produce a document which details what your client (YouthUK) has asked for. A series of paragraphs would be great but also a bullet list would be acceptable if you would prefer. Use the information in the yellow box above to detail:

What you have been asked to produce Any specific requirements e.g number of slides Who the target audience is How might you make your product suitable for the target audience e.g types of activities,

types of images, level of written language etc What multimedia you might use e.g text, images, web links, sounds, video etc

Task 2 – Sourcing & Storing Assets (1 Hour) Now that you have an idea of what you are going to be making. You need to start gathering your assets (images, videos, sounds, buttons etc) and save them in a folder on your computer. Create the table below in Word and create or source of the internet your assets.

Asset Name Source

e.g. Football image www.bbc.co.uk/football

e.g. Home button Created be myself

Task 3 – Navigation Planning (0.5 - 1 Hour) Create a navigation plan to show how each of your slides are connected to each other. For example, will you have a button to go to the next slide (from slide 3 to slide 4) or will I go to a slide further on in the presentation e.g slide 2 to slide 5? Look at the example below to help you:

Task 4 – Work Plan (1 Hour) Create a work plan to show how you will create and test your multimedia product. Your plan should include step by step tasks needed to produce your product. You should also include what resources are required to be able to complete each task and how long you think it will take to complete each task. This task is best created in Excel, but you may find Word easier if you’re not too familiar with Excel. Here are a couple of examples of what a work plan might look like:

Page 10: English Language, English Literature and Media School

Task 5 – Visualisation Diagram (1-2 Hours) Create a sketch plan of each slide, generally better hand drawn on paper rather than using the computer. Feel free to add colour to your designs. Your diagram should include the following:

Consistent layout for each slide Headings on each slide (all same size and colour) Positioning of multimedia assets (images, buttons, video etc) Text information Colour scheme

NOTE – a good diagram should allow someone with no prior knowledge of your task, to create the slides accurately just from your drawings. Here are some examples:

Task 6 – Create your interactive multimedia product (4-6 Hours) Now it’s time to create your interactive multimedia product. Use these steps as a guide:

Create a new PowerPoint Create your master slide (decide on theme/colours, position for images, text, videos etc) Make enough copies of that slide to suit however many slides are in you design/plan Add content to each slide and hyperlink the buttons Add any further interactivity e.g. animations, sounds, external weblinks etc. Test your PowerPoint

Page 11: English Language, English Literature and Media School

Improve your PowerPoint Task 7 – Testing (1 Hour) Create the following table (on computer or on paper). Think about what you need to test on your product e.g. buttons, animations, links, sounds, videos etc. An example has been included in the table below:

Test What I expect to happen

What did happen Change needed Retest result

buttons When click should take me to the correct slide

It took me to the wrong slide

Changed the hyperlink to point to the correct slide

Now works correctly

Task 8 – Review Write up an evaluation to review the work you have completed in this project. You may want to include the following:

Strengths and weaknesses of your final product How you could develop your product further Does it meet the original client requirements? How & why? Feel free to add screenshots to

help explain your explanations

Year 8

ICT Use PowerPoint to create a website about the different genres of comic that you have been studying. Your website will need to include:

A home page.

A page for each genre of comic (Superhero, Horror, Manga, Sci-Fi), that includes key characteristics and examples comics and characters from that style.

Logo and buttons.

A clear house style. You can split your project over the next 5 weeks into the following tasks:

Week 1 - Research genres, characters and comics. Week 2 - Design your template page (including logo and buttons) and create your home page. Week 3 - Create Superhero and Horror pages. Week 4 - Create Manga and Sci-Fi pages. Week 5 - Use hyperlinks to your buttons and test the website.

If you do not have access to PowerPoint, you can design each of your web pages on paper, in the form of visualisation diagram.

Year 7

ICT Background Information You need to make a presentation in PowerPoint to show the different things that teenagers can do in Doncaster. These should be things that are suitable for teenagers and exciting. Your presentation will need to have a starting slide with the title ‘Things to do in Doncaster’ and then it needs to look at 5 different activities/attractions. When talking about the attractions, make sure you give details such as: what is it, what can you do there, where is it, when does it open, and how to get there. Week 1 Research and record 5 different activities/attractions you are going to discuss in your presentation. Remember to look for details such as location, opening times, etc. Week 2 Collect some pictures to go on the presentation that are suitable to go with the attractions you are going to talk about. Challenge: Can you find some links that you can put in your presentation that will take you to a website?

Page 12: English Language, English Literature and Media School

Week 3 Create the style of your presentation, making sure it is clear and easy to see. Think about what colours you will use, what font style you will use, where you will put your information and images, and where will the titles go. Complete your opening slide using the style you have created. Week 4 Create the rest of your presentation in PowerPoint using the same style. Add information you found when you completed your research, and the images (and links) to complete your presentation. Make sure you have 6 slides in total (opening slide and 5 activities/attractions) and you have used the same style. Week 5 Review your presentation, writing a brief evaluation in Word looking at what went well, what didn’t go well, and how you could improve it. Consider the following to help you:

Does it use the same colours?

Does it use the same fonts?

Are there any spelling or grammar mistakes?

Are the pictures easy to see?

Is the information in bullet points? If you do not have access to PowerPoint or Word, you can complete these tasks on paper by drawing out your slide designs and writing your evaluation out.

Any amendments to be made will be done on OneDrive until completed. All resources needed are also on a OneDrive folder shared between Mrs Wilson

and the class, where all assignment briefs, case studies etc will be uploaded to. Deadline: ASAP

This logbook also should have been uploaded to OneDrive also. Mrs Wilson

has contacted placements to say that students will not be in for the foreseeable future, and they have assured that students will be able to continue their hours when appropriate. This logbook does need completing however, in the same way that students are doing the others.

Deadline: end of April

We know now that this has been postponed, so students will now sit this when they are in year 13.

However, in preparation for it, there are practice papers for unit 4 on the shared class OneDrive file for students to use to prepare.

This is the next assignment students will be working on. The lessons and assignment information are on OneDrive and students are expected to complete the assignment as they have done unit 5, using OneDrive and communicating via email.

Deadline: End of May 2020 (to be entirely completed so Mrs Wilson will need to see it way before this).

If students have completed all their assignment work, they will be expected to revise and complete mock exam papers ready for the resits at the beginning of next year.
