MY THOUGHTS

July, as it turns out, has been a slow month for activities. With the high heat

indices going topless in our LBCs has been a bit difficult. However, that is all

about to change. The traditional ice cream run will take place on the 5th of

August and the annual Rugby British Car extravaganza, the last weekend of the

month.

At this month's meeting we will welcome our newest member, Christine Garbo,

who is retiring to east Tennessee from southern California. She is a very

interesting women with an equally interesting sports car background. Please join

us in welcoming her, and her MGB, to the club.

From a business point of view we could have an update on the question of

incorporating the club. In our modern litigious society (that means people like to

sue each other) it provides protection for officers and event leaders in case of

injury or property damage during one of our events. This is your club and your

input is needed.

I got my LBC out today. No, it didn't overheat. Your leader says it is ok to run

them!

Minutes from July 6, 2017 meeting

President John called the meeting to order. We had 19 in attendance. Thanks to Pam Armbrister for coordinating with Ye Olde Steak House. Treasurer’s Report: Don reported that we have $46.40 in the Flower Fund and $1882.08 in the checking account. We are still at 30 paid memberships for 2017. Old Business: We have resolved a meeting place for September. The Chop House agreed to honor their old room minimum of $500 for this time. Going forward, we will either need to meet the higher minimum or if we are willing to meet there on a Monday or Tuesday they would honor the $500 minimum. More discussion later on continued use of Chop House in the future. Still need a place to meet in October. Gary Moss suggested a place called Louie’s at Broadway & I-640. Not sure if it will work. He will check it out and advise at next meeting. More discussion was held regarding the annual Progressive dinner. The room use fee at Charles Towne Landing is now $100 and the group felt that was too much to pay to use a room. So questions to the group were: who is willing to host the 3 stages of the dinner (appetizers, dinner, dessert) and where can we hold the dinner? Decisions have to be made at the August meeting if we are to continue this traditional December activity. It was made clear that Barbara Rigby will NOT cook dinner this year as she has done it for at least the last 4 years and someone else needs to step up and do this (or cater?). Also, the Paynes have hosted appetizers for the last 2 years and the Lockharts have hosted dessert the last 2 years. Again, both advised they will be unable to do so for 2017. Need volunteers! Discussion regarding joint club for eastern Tennessee and it turns out this is about coordinating activities – not actually combining clubs. Jim deRopp suggested EAS have a “Drives Coordinator” which was approved. President John asked for a volunteer and if Editor’s notes are correct Barbara Rigby volunteered for the position. New Business: Springtime in the Smokies funds will be available in the next couple of weeks. Plan to invite the two charities to attend our September meeting and we will present their checks then. Rigbys – invite Sunshine and Gary Moss invite Knoxville Dream Center. Some discussion was held about whether the time had come for the club to incorporate. There will be an initial fee to file for incorporation and then an annual filing fee. Gary Moss said he would check with an attorney friend to find out what is involved. President John had asked to see a copy of the club insurance and a copy of the contract was provided by Don Zerrip but the coverage limits were not provided. He will get that information for the next meeting. Gary Moss advised that the Morristown club (East TN MG Club) had suggested holding a fall picnic at Panther Creek State Park. No other details were provided. This was to gauge interest.
