 The moneyl ender heard t he sound and was sure t hat a t hi ef was on t he r oofof t he house. Now he had t o creat e some pl oy. He hi t upon a pl an. “Laxmi ,Laxmi ” he cal l ed out t o hi s daught er who was sl eepi ng. “Laxmi , I hope ourmoney- box and j ewel l er y ar e kept i n t he cei l i ng, ” he asked cl ever l y.

Gener al l y, i n hi l l ar ea, t o keep house warm i n wi nt er , houses have at hatched r oof i ng and bel ow t hat , a wooden cei l i ng. Cer t ai n t hi ngs used t obe kept i n t he space between t he r oof i ng and wooden cei l i ng. So when t het hi ef heard t he quest i on put by Dhanpat r ai , he thought t hat t her e was acei l i ng bel ow t he t hat ched r oof . So he j umped down.

But act ual l y i n t he house t her e was no wooden cei l i ng. So t he t hi ef f el l

t o the f l oor of t he house whi ch was about f i f t een f eet bel ow and br okehi s l eg.
