CourseTitle&Description:ThisisEnglishLiteraturefor10thgraders.Inthiscourse,studentswillmastertheCaliforniaStateCommonCoreStandardsinreading,writing,listeningandspeakingastheyinteractwitharigorousandrelevantcurriculumthatisdifferentiatedtohelppreparestudentsforthefuture.Studentsstudyavarietyofliteraryworksfromvariousgenresincludingnon-fictionandinformationaltexts,poetry,essays,plays,shortstories,andnovels.Studentscompleteavarietyofwritingassignments,includingmulti-paragraphessays,timedwritings,dialecticaljournals,andpoetry.Additionally,studentswillrefinepublicspeakingskillsthroughverbalpresentationsandin-classdiscussions.Studyofrhetoricandgrammaticalconceptsareanintegralfocusoftheclassandaretaughtinconjunctionwiththewritingprocess.

• StudentswillneedaccesstotheInternet.StudentswithoutInternetaccessathomecanutilizetheschoolcomputersbeforeschool,afterschool,orduringseminarandlunch.
GradingScaleandPolicy:Pointswillbeawardedformosthomeworkandin-classassignments.Pointswillalsobegivenforparticipation.Students'gradeswillbedeterminedbyapercentagederivedfromthetotalnumberofearnedpointsdividedbythetotalpossiblepointsforeachgradingperiod.Thereisnocurve.Progressreport,quarterly,andfinalgradeswillbereportedtoparents/guardiansintheformofalettergrade.Lettergradesarebasedonthefollowingscale:GradeScale:90-100%=A80-89%=B70-79%=C60-69%=D0-59%=F
